Need music-sharing advice

Post by HemlockGrey »

I've been trying to download numerous songs of Kazaa, but each one is interrupted by some sort of weird sound or static. I can only imagine this is another of the RIAA's evil plots to secure it's monopoly.

That said, how do I circumvent this? What other networks are there?

Not that you need any of this advice since you don't download music, but try Filetopia and WinMX. Filetopia boasts good Stealth (encryption and anonymity; this means the RIAA can't hit you) but the file selection is a slight bit slim. WinMX has wonderful selection but can be frustrating with the massive queues. I use both. Kazaa Lite is good for large and small non-infringing files like Linux ISOs, freeware games, porn of all shapes and sizes, and underground txtfiles...

Remember, don't let the RIAA scare you off P2P...

You can't circumvent this. The RIAA is flooding P2P networks with files that have the correct size but very little actual music in them.

You can use other services, yes, but even with anonymization tools and encryption there's no guaruntee that you can't be traced. Packets have to get routed somehow.

Finally: Hemlock, you tread on thin ice. Regardless of the morality of the situation, it is in violation of copyright law in the United States.

Not if he's looking for songs he owns a copy of but can't copy onto his computer (such as cassette tapes or vinyl albums).

Speaking of which, is there any way to get around a blocked 1214 port with Kazaa? I want to download the old Billy Joel cassettes I own (one's starting to warp from age), but the $(%@# school firewall blocks that port.

Here's my advice. If you live in the United States, don't. It's illegal unless you have the millions necessary to fight the requisite court battle.

There are a lot of file-sharing networks, but this is not a warez board and we don't dispense piracy advice. Please read the announcements for the board policy regarding this kind of activity. Thread locked.
