Vice City: "The Driver"

Post by Lord Poe »

Yup, I bought Vice City! :P

Anyone have any advice on how to beat the Malibu mission "The Driver"? I've tried everything! I've read numerous threads on the web that say basically, "keep trying"

After quite a number of races, I began cheating. I went to the last bridge of the race, and parked three Panzer tanks there. The bastard actually MOVED one with his car and squeezed through!

Next, I parked an extra TWO tanks there, so he couldn't get through. That worked, so I ran to my car to complete the race. Unfortunately, Haley wins after I leave the site of the tanks.

THEN, I tried to steal his car after he was stopped by the tanks. But he locked his doors! Bastard!

Is that the one in which you had to race that nerd? Use the code "getthereamazinglyfast" and you'll get the fastest car available. Then you'll easily beat that guy. Or block him and blow out his tires. :)

I don't remember how I beat him lemme think for a sec... I don't remember but I think I just got him to crash on a turn (or he did it to himself) and from there on I just kept ahead of him.

One thing you can do is to complete the Sunshine Autos missions. After you have done them all, you will get a racecar in the top floor of the Sunshine Autos building. Take the racecar, and park it on the sidewalk on the left side (I think) of the police station. Get back to the Malibu quickly, and start the mission. Once you get to the police station, as quickly as you can ditch the Sentinel and jump in the racecar. You'll be pretty far behind, but assuming you can avoid the cops and other cars pretty well, you should eventually get caught up. The car can take a good bit of punishment, it's fast as hell, and it handles nicely. It won't be easy (you'll have to retry a couple of times, probably), but it is completely doable. I've beaten this mission two times with this method. The Sentinel is just a horrible car to have to do this mission with.

I just parked a fast motorcycle near the police station and hopped into it as fast as I could. I beat him easily.

I beat him just by using some side-swiping/ramming tricks I picked up during my vigillante days; run up along him so the front of my car was next to the back of his car, and then smash into him and make him spin out.

He loses a lot of time and distance trying to catch up after one or two of those.

After doing the vigilante missions, I became the master of the driveby. Unloading few hundred rounds once you catch up to him can end the race right quick.

Similarly, you can win all the Sunshine autos street races with a single well-aimed bazooka round. If you take out all three cars, you can win in a Moonbeam or a Perennial.

If your copy of VC is on PC, you could always try editing the cars handling.

Find the file "handling.cfg" and open it in notepad.

Then you've just got to fine the car that Hilary's driving, (It's a Sabre Turbo) and de-tune it a bit

Once you've cut his performance down a bt you should be able to beat him easily.

Just remember to make a backup so you can restore the old handling for the Sabre Turbo, 'cause it's actualy quite a good car.

Another trick for the Sunshine race is to park a couple of cars in front of the guy you’re going to race, before you accept the challenge. That way when the race starts you can get a bit of an early lead.

Oh yeah now I remember how I did it. I had my wanted level up because just before the mission I was having fun shooting at some pigs. Then when there was the countdown a police bus thingy with the swat team people came crashing into his car before the start of the race. He disappeared out of view :)
