Opera 7.20 here, and I use IE6 for backup for things such as chatrooms that don't support anything but Netscape and IE.

Under Windows I'm running Opera 7.11 because of it's loading and rendering speeds.
I have Mozilla Firebird installed for when Opera comes to something it can't handle (which is actually quite often, it is somewhat buggy) IE is a last resort for if neither of those browsers can do anything.
Under Linux I actually prefer Mozilla 1.4, it loads quicker then its windows counterpart and seems to work ok, the built in pop-up blocking is excellent. I don't use mozilla messenger though, that thing is beyond buggy. I have Opera installed though and use it sometimes.

IE6 on Win2K3 is locked down like you wouldn't believe, but most people can't get a copy of it since its so expensive. You really can't do much on it onless you put something on a whitelist.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Mozilla. Hands Fucking Down.
Until IE fixes all its vulnerabilities I'm not touching it with a five hundred foot pole. Not that I'll even do that anyway. May M$IE burn in Eternal Hellfire so hot that a half-ton brick of tungsten will flash-vaporize on contact!
Well Longhorn won't be coming out for about 1.5-2 years, assuming no delays, which is an eternity when it comes to technology, so you have a *slim* chance of IE no longer becoming the dominant browser...Spanky The Dolphin wrote: As for having to upgrade to the next version of Windows to get the later versions of IE: seeing as I have Windows ME (which I also don't have any problems with), I'll probably have to do that anyway in a few years.
http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/browsers.htm. I say slim because users would rather use whats builtin rather than go out and fetch a popup blocker or a better browser.
I'm very concerned with Mozilla losing AOL funding (obviously the implication of this is that there is no longer a reason to like AOHELL...). Sure, KHTML (Konqueror/Safari) may be faster, but seems too IEish when rendering pages. And KHTML probably has less funding than Mozilla to begin with... Mozilla development will go at a slower pace, and... ? And I refuse to touch Opera, due to banner ads.
IE has problems progressively rendering this board-eg, the formatting seems fucked until it completely loads.

Oh, and there's k-meleon- IE clone with gecko layout engine, and very fast- even runs on my old P-120, since it uses native widgets unlike FireBird or Mozilla. Too bad the linux equivelant, Galeon, is a bloated crap from what I've heard, so the only lightweight linux browsers with decent rendering are konqueror and opera.

Looks like they added tabbed browsing, but the screenshot is 0.6, since the 0.8 screenshot is an ugly looking page.

I was concerned with this as well, but it seemed that the months after AOL dropped Moz was when it really got polished and finally came out with a project I could get behind... Firebird. Monitoring the issue at Slashdot, I've heard that AOL's support consisted of about five developer's salaries. That's not much. THe total Mozilla team was far larger, like 50, but most of the were either manager types or people tasked to develop the AOL-centric add ons for Mozilla or marketers that squared away advertising deals.pI'm very concerned with Mozilla losing AOL funding (obviously the implication of this is that there is no longer a reason to like AOHELL...). On the note of Opera, those of you with 7.11 I've noticed that 7.2 has fixed a couple issues with site compatability i was having (even if it hasn't goten this site to work right yet). An upgrade is highly recommended.

I use Opera 6 for 90% of my browsing. I use Opera 7 for the last 10% that doesn't work in Opera 6 (I used to use IE, but I screwed something up with ZA, and now ZA doesn't allow IE to access the Internet at all, despite giving it permission).
I haven't switched over to Opera7 completely because some of its UI features annoy me.
I very much dislike using IE, considering how much I have to use it at work (and whoever invented 'smoothscroll' should be shot).

Sounds just like what I like. IE still has cracks in it, so IMO it's still a bit dangerous. However, Proxomitron, even in its 'discontinued' status, takes care of that without a problem simply because of its excellent armor rating (I'd put it on par with Mozilla in strength and hack-resistance).phongn wrote:IE6 on Win2K3 is locked down like you wouldn't believe, but most people can't get a copy of it since its so expensive.
