For the past three days, whenever I access the internet or just plainly use the computer, it would slow down for a minute and then goes back to normal. Then a couple of minutes later it would slow down again. Any ideas on what's the cause?

Could possibly be spyware.

Well I don't see anything really amiss except the fact that you're using IE on Win ME. Try installing Win2K and getting Mozilla Firebird. I've also been hearing that Norton is a piece of shit too...

EDIT: Do you remember anything weird happening on the computer three days ago?

Nothing's changed. But the slowness also happens when I reboot the computer.

Might be Norton Autoprotect. It tends to scan every single file that's being run.

I get the update icon whenever there's an update. But that hasn't happened since the Oct 3 update.

Yup, and nothing's out of the ordinary. But is there a hardware problem that would cause the system to slow down for one minute and then speed up to normal? Mind you, it runs normal whenever I am playing a game.
