Weird desktop gimmick

See that Morrowind shortcut icon? I DID NOT do that.

Every once in a while, a random shortcut on my desktop changes its icon pic into something else's. Maya's once became Morrowind's. mplayer2's became AVIPreview's. Etc. I know how to change it back (it's actually already pointing to the correct location, but the pic's still different)

Anyone know what could be causing that?

I have no clue what causes that; it also afflicts Windows 2000. Apparently Microsoft also doesn't have a clue what causes the problem.

Of course, the whole shortcut system is fucked-up, but I digress.

It's a strange bug in Windows that's existed for some time. Photoshop files are especially afflicted because their icon is a preview.
