Super Tails?

Post by Trogdor »

I downloaded the Roms for the old Sonic the Hedgehog games fairly recently and my younger sister saw me playing and soon became obsessed with the games, especially Tails. She saw me change Sonic into Super Sonic in Sonic 2 and began asking me if Tails could do that. Can he do it in any of the old 2-D games without using a gameshark or debug code or something?

Well, I know it's not Sonic 3. Tried it there, got all the emeralds with Tails and recieved nothing besides a little "Tails got all chaos emeralds!" message. But thanks anyway, I'll keep trying.

Well in Sonic 3 and Knuckles Tails gets Hyper Tails after getting all 7 Chaos and all 7 Super Emeralds.

That Hyper Tails probably is the most powerful Hyper form in the games makes it even better.

He gets (in addition to invulnerability) six orange birds which homes in on enemies and kills them as soon as they're on screen. Works on bosses, too.

Thank you for the info. Super emeralds are obtained in the special stages just like the normal ones, right?

Yep. Just like the regular ones. The giants ring will start flashing once you can get Super Emeralds. BTW, there's a Hyper version of all the characters. Sonic is even faster in Hyper Mode than in Super Mode.

My sincerest thanks for the help, McNum. You don't know how hard it is to find this info. Even the online walkthrough/FAQs I checked only vaguely mentioned the super emeralds if at all.

Just to add one more thing.

The fastest way to get all the emeralds if you miss them through your first runthrough:

Both in Mushroom Hill Zone (Zone 7 in S3&K):
For Sonic (alone and with Tails) and for Tails do this:

Run right. See Knuckles close a gate with a switch. Open gate with the same switch and run in. Get Giant Ring.

For Knuckles:
Just run. Can't miss it.

When you get an emerald the game is saved, so reset and do it again for the next one. Just be warned: The Super stages are hard, so be ready to do it a lot.

If you do that as Sonic you also do a stage where you chase Robotnik through an asteroid field as Hyper Sonic (proper flying after him, it is great :p)
History? I love history! First, something happens, then, something else happens! It's so sequential!! Thank you first guy, for writing things down!

The ending of sonic and knuckles is slightly different depending if you get super or hyper sonic. If you're super sonic, the robot still lives. If you get hyper sonic, you knock him the fuck out.

Btw, i still have the sega genesis and all the sonic games i got for my 5th birthday in perfect condition. ph34r.

You also got that with 7 Emeralds, but only as Super Sonic, so it wasn't quite as cool, even though it played identically.

How I loved that game...

It was hard enough to get all seven Chaos Emeralds, I not even tried to get the Super Emeralds, because it meant loosing all Chaos Emeralds. And I hadn't seen a real advantage in Hyper Sonic.
But "Doomsday Zone" is cool.
Hadn't you thought too, that the giant robot bafore the Doomsday Zone was too easy when Super Sonic?

But on the other hand with "Gens", the Emulator with a saving option, it was all too easy again......

I always found the Special Stages in Sonic 3 & Knuckes the easiest out of all the sonic games :)
