VGA Planets 4 (again)

Post by Sam Or I »

Here is my shameless self promotion

For those of you who don't know, VGA Planets is a play by email game, war strategy 4x space conquest game. I absolutely LOVE the 4th version which is now in Beta. It is not for everyone, the interface is rather clunky, the learning curve is extremely high, the graphics are not the greatest, and the rules are very complex. Personally, I like complex rules, rules that counter act each other, many rules for each race, the way you can bend and twist the rules to come up with advantages never thought possible (or other players can), no other 4X game I can think of is as complex as VGAP 4. Each race is unique, and has there own set of rules which determines the style of play, currently there are 20 playable races, each very unique in the style of play needed. (And the original races have ripped off well known sci-fi universes) Art has started to resemble life, there is a player going by the name of Thrawn, which has become practically undefeatable, he usually uses the Borg, but righ now he is in a game using the Empire and kicking some serious ass. Taking all the rules of the game and twisting them to his advantage. Heres a list of races:

Solar Federation-Well, basically the federation from ST.

The Lizards- The Gorn

The Birdmen-The Romulans from Starfleet Battles

The Stormers-The Klingons

The Privateers-The Orions

The Cyborg Race-The Borg

The Crystals Race-The Tholians

The Evil Empire-The Empire from Star Wars

The Robotic Imperium - The Cylons from the Original Battlestar Galactica

The Rebels- The Rebels from Star Wars

The Colonies Of Man- The Galactica, and its fleet

The Peoples Army- 3rd party race, no real relation to a TV series

The University Alliance- A bunch of scientists, who decided to play war

The Scavanger Tribes-Loosely based on the Jawas from Star Wars. (I made this race)

Holy Draconian Empire-An Evil race, sort of resembling the Roman empire

The United Enforcement Authority-Based loosely on the Starship Troopers movie (I did the graphics)

The Reunited Coalition of Systems- 3 races in one, based loosely on the Star Flight universe. (I made this race)

Aczanny Pyramids-A Bird race, with the main advatage of speed

The Centaurs-A Merchant Race

The Solorian Unity-An energy based race which lives off the energy from stars. (I did the graphics)

Oh, I'm sure that Dominions 2 is pretty close in the complexity department. :)

The page for the Cyborg Race wrote:We are the Cyborg. We are a union of the best of both machine and flesh fused into one being. The first cyborg traveled from the far future to the far past, from the planet 1 of 2 of 3 of 10 of Sol and traveled by time chunnel to 4 of 10 of Nei, our ancient homeworld. We seek perfection through the union of what is best of all machines and thinking meat. Emotions are irrelevant. Contraband is irrelevant. We are the cyborg.
So, am I to assume that whoever implemented this race subscribed to the V'Ger theory of Borg origins?
