Don't even bother, it royally stinks at newsgroups.

Especially if you want to give the binary groups a shot.

I'd go with Forte Agent.

I'm a big Xnews fan. Configuration examples for many newsreaders are available here, though the server information is specific to news.individual.net, of course.

Ok, I am going to attempt Forte Agent..

Now going by the directions on the site phong provided, I keep getting this error when I try to refresh the groups list:

Did you type in the proper username and password (if your news server requires one)?

Ok this is what I am trying to figure out. :| How do I know if my news server requires a password? Furthermore, what is a news server exactly.

You'll have to contact your ISP to find out the proper username and password.

Secondly, a newsserver is how you access USENET. Unlike web-based boards, no central server [pool] exists. Instead, you use a local server, which itself propagates your message to other service -- and those do the same to others.

Ok got that figured out; subscribed now to ASVS.

But it won't let me see the messages. :?

Something about 480 Authentication required.

Tried that and it didn't give me ASVS in the group listing. :|

Then your ISP server probably doesn't carry ASVS. Try news.individual.net instead (note: you will need to sign up for it, but it's as simple as sending an Email to them.)
