Baldur's Gate Error

Post by HemlockGrey »

So I recently fired up my old copy of the original Baldur's Gate and started playing. However, whenever I try to venture into the wilderness south of Beregost, I get a "C++ Runtime library error" and the program crashes.

Anyone got any clues? I'm all patched up.

What OS are you running? Not that I think it should make a difference, but you never know.

It also could be that the installation messed up. In which case you should back your save file, re-install, and see if it still screws up. If that doesn't work, try to find a save game on the internet that is saved in the wilderness south of Beregost(or ask a friend with a working copy to get you one) and try that. Beyond that, I couldn't tell ya.

First off...just make sure you have the right patch for the right version...Tob was notorious for having many many different patches that looked very similar, yet would react badly if you put the wrong one on..

As the question put before was....what os are you running?..it could make a major difference...if Xp, try running it in compatibility mode for win 98, or if you've got win98...maybe try installing the latest directx and Vb6 runtime files...that might help

It seems that the C++ runtime library DLL is corrupted or missing on you system. I would recommend patching your OS or if you encounter this problem with other programs reinstalling the OS.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

That wont work. The C++ runtime library covers things like iostream, stdlib, mem etc. These are critical functions commonly used only by C++ application. Normaly programmers staticaly link to this libraries meaning that the libraries are included with the executable. As for vb6 runtime files I have no idea where did you get that.

I reinstalled BG, but same problem.

I'm running Windows 98, but there's absolutely no possibility of reinstalling it. Zero. I've also not experienced any other problems with any programs.

I did download the 1.14315 patch and the DirectX 8 patch.
