It would be nice if MS would create monthly .ISO files that have all the latest updates and patches. That way, us admins could burn our own CDs, instead of killing our network with Windows Update.

That would be the 'smart' thing todo.phongn wrote:Couldn't you install SUS on your network and have all of your computers point to that server rather than everyone accessing the Internet Windows Update?
However, I'm not aware of any such app for small home networks. Were its often a pain to update 3-4 computers via the web.

I ordered the CD, it'll come handy whenever I'm doing a fresh install of Windows. I won't spend as MUCH time watching a download bar.
(hey, it's free, why the hell not? )

Plus, it has the MSBLAST fix. This is a must have for when you're reloading and don't know how to properly configure a firewall.
However, you could also just download all the hotfixes manually from the MS Download Center and burn them to CD, but not everyone knows how to install those manually.

Or when you're dog tired and accidentally install the network drivers before you configure the firewall.Vertigo1 wrote:Plus, it has the MSBLAST fix. This is a must have for when you're reloading and don't know how to properly configure a firewall.

For home use, thats why Natted routers are a good thing. Cant get infected by just plugging it into the router(assumming no infected computer on the local network).Crayz9000 wrote:Or when you're dog tired and accidentally install the network drivers before you configure the firewall.Vertigo1 wrote:Plus, it has the MSBLAST fix. That's actually precisely the reason why I normally do all OS installs at my house, since I know my LAN is secure. But I was running short on time and decided to install Win2K on my laptop at my college. Oops.ggs wrote:For home use, thats why Natted routers are a good thing.
