Codec problems
Thief and Thief 2 use an archaic version of the Indeo Codec for the videos (mission briefings, into and ending movies, etc) to play- when I reinstalled them, I learned this when I saw that they simply weren't playing (i.e. going straight into the game). I acquired the Indeo XP codec, and upon installing the videos play ... until I reboot the PC. So why the hell doesn't the codec ... 'stay'? How do I find out what's the cause of this annoying problem? I'm tired of re-running the codec everyday so i can play that new mission I'm on with the brieifng.

I've never had this problem with Thief. I just threw it back on to check, and I can confirm that the intro and briefings work on my XPcorp. I remember on my old puter Thief wanted to install the codecs, but under XP it doesn't seem to the nessicary. I'm not sure how the codec library works, but something else on your puter may beusing a different (newer, probably) version of the Indeo codec and it gets replaced. I hope this helps.

Might be that another program is reassociating what codecs to use with what video on startup.
