Can we guess why this is here?

Emulation software isnt illegal anywhere I know of, its the ROM images (which are someone's copyrighted property) that are. An emulator is just software that allows one machine to pretend to act like another....which isnt a violation of any laws, unless its in amongst the US's silly shit from the DMCA?

you have to put the codes in yourself, but if you're talking plain old NES emulator, i'd recommend FCE Ultra. doing a google on it will pull up its home page for you. i think it has a code search feature, but i rarely use the cheats myself. *shrug*

Nintendo Entertainment System (the old 8 bit)
I want one you can do searches in like you can for some of the higher level emulators for Gameboy and so forth I have seen.
And yes, I legally own the cartridges I plan to play on it. My old system died a few months back.
I felt sad, I was considering giving it a funeral, but I decided instead just to trash it

your best bet for gameboy stuff is Visualboy Advance. and technically, the copyright law concerning roms only applies to making your own backups, not downloading, but eh. either way you're pretty much on your own as far as finding roms goes, although there are a ton of decent sites out there if you look a little.

Well, for the original NES, I'd suggest NEStopia. The upsides are a decent cheat search function and the best compatibility out of all of all of the NES emulators to date, but the downside is that it's extremely resource intensive (moreso than ZSNES for the SNES!). If your system isn't up to snuff (I'd say 800 MHz P3, minimum), NESten would be my choice. It doesn't use up many system resources and has a very good cheat search engine, but lacks compatibility with some games.
