That and the fact that the hardware was pretty low end to begin with, this goes double for the PS3 with it's strange architecture. If they were going to spend the time and money building these core units why not spend that instead on blowing then 360 out of the water with better conventially used parts? Then they get the upper hand in cross console ports and fanboys get to shout about superior hardware.

The word is that both may use off-the-shelf parts this time, so maybe Sony learned the lesson.

Of course this means people complain they will be 'PCs in a smaller box', since they don't understand what consoles are actually selling.

I think Sony focused too much on the tech and not enough on the product as a whole this cycle. They invested in BluRay while Microsoft invested in exclusive titles; Microsoft charges for great online, and Sony continues handing people a luke warm mess. It's like Sony sort of knows what people wants, but just can't bring themselves to bother doing it.

Microsoft focused more on exclusive titles than Sony? Halo, Forza, Gears. That's literally it. Where's there All-Star game?

They didn't always get pure exclusivity, but I'll bet they offered Squenix a pretty penny to ensure Final Fantasy isn't going to be a Sony exclusive again any time soon. They also felt as if they had more exclusives midlife when I only had a PS3.

Even those three titles are huge-name console-movers; I'm not sure Motorstorm or MAG sold many PS3s. They have their big stuff like Forza Gran Turismo and God of War of course, but many of their quality exclusives have only come out relatively recently (like Heavy Rain, Infamous etc) and often don't really provide a unique experience. Of course, now its too late to really give a shit, unfortunately for Sony.

What was the uptake on Move like? Kinect has some quite solid games, and SW Kinect apparently sold something like 300k in the first week. I've seen new Move peripherals being released, but I've no idea how relevant it is to anyone.

Frankly, anyone asking 'where's their all-star game' after mentioning two of the biggest franchises around is pretty strange.

I've actually used a Kinect, I've never seen a person with Move and I'm not remotely tempted to buy myself one.

Its another good example of tech vs utility between the two; the Move is technically more accurate and the Kinect is limited by its god-awful camera, but Kinect seems more successful.

Everything I've read about the move suggests it's basically a slightly more accurate Wii Remote. Never had any desire to use or get one though.

I still can't get over the fact that you who shits on almost every game, touts Star Wars Kinect as a success.

Nothing, it was just a thing with a missing parenthesis whenever I clicked it that made the link send me to an error page.

The last part of the link is outside the [[url]] tags. He probably used drag select + press URL button and missed.

Why? Is 'reality' a difficult concept for you? It apparently sold really well, and it was heaps of fun. Have you even played it?

Also, Stark is way overstating the crashing issue. I'm currenty playing Dragon's Dogma on the PS3 (20+ hours in) and haven't experienced a single crash despite me playing the most frame-rate intensive class. In fact I haven't experienced a single crash with any of my PS3 games.
Serious question. If I buy a PS3 and experience any crashes, are you willing to refund my purchases? if not, then why do your individual experiences matter more than that of countless websites and user reports, some in this very thread?
*sigh* I am not guaranteeing you won't get a crash for any game. I am saying the issue is way overstated especially for that particular game (Dragon's Dogma), and all of the games that I've listed as playing.

Really, how often does it actually crash based on these "countless websites" and user reports? Has anyone actually posted any real data as opposed to "I've heard"?

Your challenge makes about as much sense as demanding a refund from someone who recommends you get an Xbox 360 and says "RRoDs aren't that common anymore" and/or "I've never met anyone who experienced an RRoD". But given this is your outlook, I'll just drop this thread.

Thanas your gaming will probably be similar to mine. Madden, maybe a acouple RPGs, maybe a Command and Conquer style game every now and then.
360 works great for me. As Stark can attest to, I leave it on all the time. Practically 5 years straight on my old one. I sent it back in one time and got it back in a week.
The disc reader finally went out but I still use it for Netflix and such in the bedroom. The new one is awesome and I have only had one or two game freezes, but again, on all the fucking time.

I am really surprised that more people here like the XBox than the PS3. I fucking HATE the XBox, and there aren't any exclusive games for it that I find appealing. Hell, what do they have? Gears of War and Halo? I MUCH prefer the PlayStation and the games available for it.

Maybe it's because, as noted, the value of exclusive games these days is almost nil for platforms that aren't Nintendo, and the Xbox is better at literally everything else.

I used to be a hardcore Playstation fanboy, but after the bullshit they've pulled with the PS3 launch and the constant fumbling, I just went to the 360. There's maybe 3 or 4 exclusives the PS3 has that I like, and one of them might actually be canceled if the rumors are true (fuck you, Squenix.)

The PS3 has always rocked the 360 as far as being a media station goes. Between Blu Ray and better ability to handle codecs that is a huge advantage, as is the built in browser.

Luckily, the 360 works with all the codecs anyone cares about. The modern market is about streaming and microsales anyway, and the 360's offering seems much stronger in this regard.

I think you mean PS3 is better for pirate media, but pirate media doesn't make anyone any money.

Y'know, I've never come across anything that the PS3 will stream that the 360 won't. Either both work or neither do.

And the 360 has the ability to stream music whilst in any game, the PS3 can't unless the game is written specifically to support doing so.

The only media advantage is the blu-ray player.
