Quickly, the Adoreae where blown to scrap by a massed volley of missiles numbering in the hundreds. The counter fire from the Adoreae were easily shot down by the destroyer screen. From behind the lead of the formation came thousands of drone fighters, protecting the ships from fighter assaults, and clearing the way for the troops in the planetary assault transports to land behind the enemy lines.

The surprised Roman forces had no chance to react before they were slaughtered, pinned between two lines of battle. Above Earth, the OU fleet quickly swept the sky clear of all opposing forces, ensuring space and air superiority. The fleet then went on to attack Caeser Station.

The Minmatar are assembling their taskforces, it appears that war is coming.

Admiral Traendly had little choice, as per orders he ordered the opening of fire agaisnt the OU forces in defense of the NRE's remaining forces. The two stations began pumping volley after volley affter volley into the various ships.

As the ships that had leaft began to turn around the Admiral realised this was a more then fair fight. In fact, the Monacorans had a slight advantage here. Pushing buttons on his command console he got ship comm up, and said on all channels "There will be NO MORE actions against the the NRE. We have set a deadline for your withdrawl, if there are any actions taken until then we will consider it an action against us, and against any allies we have."

Or at least they thought they had the advantage. Unfortunately, they had a hard time dealing with missiles having a closing velocity a significant fraction of the speed of light. A few more massive volleys from all the ships in the fleet of missiles quickly overloaded the shields on the stations.

"Bugger off you bloody wanker. This doesn't involve you. We will not withdraw until we have completed what we came here to do. We suggest you avoid issuing ultimatums."

(note: this fleet consists of almost 1/4 of my total ship count)

[Octavia System]

The attack had been carried off sucessfully. The Roman forces had been well nigh on obliterated. No ships were left combat capable as far as the Asgard forces could tell. Only the forts and the surface guns. Those were a lot less of threath than mobile forces. Missle strikes would be absurdly simple.

The Roman counterattack was largely ineffectual. The ship based missles had fallen short, the missles on the fort were proving more difficult. So far only a few had been able to get through. Two cruisers had been lost outright and a dozen were showing damage, three battlecruisers had moderate damage. His carriers and super-dreadnaughts were unscathed between point defense and sheidling. The surface guns were a problem but there fixed positions allowed them to interpose the fleet's impeller wedges.

Promixity kills on the missle pods were trmendous though. Salvo's were going out at 80% even 70% of their intended density. Enough to finish the forts and fixed defenses with time. Already Asgard missles tore at forts failing sheilds. Fireballls rippled across the moons as kinetic strikes smashed the fixed guns.

The fighter though were taking heavy losses. Already they had lost 10% of their strength and they were still not in egagement range.

"Sir, we just lost Triumph. She and the Spartan were hit by the fixed guns. Spartan'll make it though her pod system's gone."

He winced at the report of two battlecruiser gone, even if one was salvagable. The Admiral's ship rocked as an X-ray warhead finally hit the superdreadnaught. She shook as the laser gouged deep into her flank.

"Damage heavy but localized."

Subject deployment of peacekeeping force

The Krytos Star Navy's omega task force, Consisting of three command ships, four dreadnaughts, 35 frigates, 12 cruisers, eight destroyers and four battleships will be deployed to the frontlines of the war. Their intentions are to see that no ship under the Krytos flag is accedentally harmed during this unfortunate confrontation and to insure that no Krytosian citizens take part in the hostilities (If somone tries to hire Krytosian privateers we'll blast them into tiny peices) it is NOT there to partake in the hostilities and if any officer of the KSN should disobey his orders and open fire, the attacked nation has every right to defend themselves and the officer in question will be extradited to the wronged nation.

In a private communication to the Roman Emperor, sent by astropathic message that no one, with the possible exception of the Raians and Talorans, has any chance of intercepting, which was then personally transcribed and hand-carried by the ambassador to its destination:

The Kaiser has personally barred the clans from contracting mercenaries to the Romans. He wishes he could do more to help, but the Imperial war fleet is sorrowfully out order. It will take time to get readiness above that needed to send more than token aid. The escort carrier Catabole is still in Sol system, but we request it be allowed to return to base for arming.

The heavily damaged Imperial forces had withdrawn into orbit around Augustia, their weapons mostly inoperable. Still there the Arci, mostly untouched, hiding on the far side of the planet and resupplied by shuttles, tossed another volley, consisting of ten thousand missiles that detonated in proximity blasts, evsicerating small clouds of fighters.

The guns of Gladius and Imperator, sunk deep into the surface of the cities, still pounded away with limited effectiveness. Several Asgard cruisers, and then two battleships, went up in flames, but of the original two hundred Roman ships fifty had been destroyed and nigh all the rest rendered almost immobile.

Admiral Decimus ordered all guns to cease. He began to hail the enemy vessels.

The thin suits protected the Fenari team from the hazzards of the enviornment, but they took no chances, the defenses of the ship could still kill. And an encounter with a live "Great foe" would leave the Fenari dead but not possessed by the parasite creature. One of the few modifications done to the packs to fight the soldiers of the enemy. Still if there was salvageable weapons or ore, they could be brought back for research on Fenris. This was not the time to take chances.

casualties had been light so far, a few Fenari dead from tears or concealed weapons, still there were more weapons and puzzels to be solved before the wreck was secure, then came the transmission the salvage team had dreaded. An interloping "Ally" looking for slavers, or pirates was scanning the area, with an recon ship. If they could breach the defenses, they would have to be most careful with the enemy lifeform, as per the treaty stipulations.

The guns of Caesar Station began to defy the advancing OU fleet almost at once. The Arci, on the far side of the planet, cut loose with multiple salvos that ripped toward the advancing forces. Innumerable missiles swarmed the fleet, dying like flies, but many got through and smashed into the hulls and shields of OU ships. The Lupi also began a concentrated missile attack, whilst the Adoreae opened fire with their deadly powerful X-Lasers.

A single Lupi blasted forward, evading fire, breaking orbit and heading straight for Earth, it's cargo of low-yield tac nukes already deployed and streaking fast towards the advancing PSR forces.

On the planet, the Praetorian Guard had succeeded in holding the Alpine passes and was pushing the PSR forces back. On the Bulgarian front, the thunder of planes had died, and slowly the Romans had reformed into a battle line.

General Brisbane stood on the bridge of the Tyrant as the Menias-Dorian Expeditionary Force arrived in the Octavia System. "All forces prepare to engage the Asgard Forces as soon as the fleet enters real space," Brisbane boomed with a clear voice to the fleet, "and or enemies shall soon fall! Que 1812 Overture good junior officer!"

And just then the fleet exited hyperspace towards the rear of the Asgard Star Empire's fleet.

"Sir, they are dployed foward towards the New Roman Fleet. We can attack, awaiting orders sir," the sonar officer said.

"So be it, begin attack. All Heavy Battlecruisers, fire railguns at that center heavy cruiser! I believe it is thie flagship," Brisbane said as leaned foward onto the desktop. "Launch drone fighters, send 3/4 out without missles, send the other 1/4 with missle." And with that 3000 fighers and the 1000 fighter-bombers launched and awaits the missle frigates launching of heavy torpedoes. "All long range guns open fire!"

And so the new battle began...just as 1812 Overture peaked it's greatest sounds.

"Redeploy the fleet. One third of the cruiser to hunt down their starships moving to earth, the rest of the fleet is to deal with those battlestations over Mars."

12 massive Black Forests capital ships, 42 Shenandoah armored cruisers, 15 Vindictive class fleet carrier vessels along with 80 FS .96 frigates maneuvered through space. But then clamp released on each Black Forest, and 12 General Wolfe monitors were also in the fight.

The situation assed, the fleet jumped again to different. No Roman warship could stand toe to toe with a Shenandoah, and the one third that where located in open space where slaughtered. The other two thirds hid in the shadow of the battlestations and waited for the end. The Kokand fleet arrived back in real space just outside of the Martian gravity well. Engines lit and the fleet advanced, tens of thousands of combat drones filled space around it as a screen.

The lumbering battlestations where easy targets. Built like all Roman craft with heavy emphasis on close combat and boarding, they mounted only a few large weapons and handful of point defence mounts. The disparity in firepower was simply ridiculous.

The first Kokand 30,000 weapon missile salvo carried away several Roman stations and the handful of starships supporting them. The massive heavy particle beam turrets of the Black Forests couldn't hit many targets, but a battle station was on the list. They didn't last much longer.

The ground batteries reach up into the skies, damaging several cruisers with their beam weapons. However Caesar was a military installation and bombarding it was a simple measure. The struggle was unequal in any case, the Kokand warships could maneuver, a fixed point on the ground could do nothing to evade beam fire. The medium guns of the Shenandoah's walked from target to target, reducing them to debris and craters. Finally with orbit secured a Black Forest descended to take care of what of the garrison. Two HyStrike I earth penatraitor destroyed their main command centers. It then began directing drones from a fleet carrier to use much smaller weapons against ground troops prior to invasion. The Red planet had suffered enough already.

"Martian aerospace secured sir, ready to move to Earth."
"Will take two thirds of the fleet, the rest remain hear to cover the convoy and transports when they arrived. And be ready to smack down anything Roman that pops up on the surface."

a Disturbance in the space was barely noticable, the laser beam arced out to Fenris, and then to Demonheim military Headquarters. They were within 4 meters of capturing one of those parasites and it's host ALIVE, Still to whom should they return the hybrid to? The humans were sentimental and would not understand the threat. Of those currently traveling space only the Skaven and themselves they were sure could be safe from the threat of one of the slavers of anchient lore.

Transit fleet and combatants to the recovery site. The ship is now to be considered an OCCUPIED and ARMED enemy vessel.

Near mars a another great force was dragged out of hyperspace in precisely the right location by a Shenandoah with an active interdictor system. It contained two Black Forests and eight Shenandoah's, along with four fleet carriers and thirty frigates. It also however had no less then 200 AOE's and fleet ammunition ships, along with other equally valuable craft, 80 laden divisional planetary assault ships with a reinforced theater group aboard. Bright Star had ensured such forces could be quickly assembled; indeed many had still been aboard ship. The large force was taken inside the defensive perimeter and the Kokand force began fueling and bombing up a quarter of its ships.

"All Roman guns have ceased firing, whether it's damage or not I can't tell. I'm picking up a transmission from the Romans."

The Admiral smiled. The Romans wanted peace did they. If not the fighters were still inbound. They'd silence the guns one way or the other.

"Admiral, new contacts. Heavy units. They're opening fire!"

Seconds later the rail guns slugs slammed into the kinetic sheilds splattering harmlessly. Kinetics weapons had little affect against the ships sheilds, much less the 'walls. The problem would be missles and the fighters they had just launched. Point defense would be busy but they should hold.

"All ships open fire. Order CrunRon BC 2 and 3 to engage the new comers. Keep the Crusaders clear!"

19 Battlecruisers turned almost as one. They turned their broadsides to the enemy and opening fire. They opened fire with heavy grasers and lasers. It was hard to tell but it looked like they were scoring hits in return.

"Get the damn Romans on the line!"
