Utsanomiko got me hooked on it. But the freak uses it for ALL his games, not just FPS.

I use the arrow keys. All bindable keys in a semi circle around that, from ctrl , shift etc to the numpad. Having a 5 button mouse helps too, just getting games to support it is a problem. There's great hand controllers that rock for FPS games too, don't have one but tried my friends its pretty cool if you can get used to it.

Oh man, I don't believe it runs ok in ULTRA! That's so ace! The weapons piss me off though, they're not powerful enough. I tell you what'd be cool though, if the rocket launcher, instead of exploding as soon as it hits an enemy, if it carried them away a bit and then exploded, imagine the fun you could have with that and ragdolls!

I'm using WASD for this game, though i used to be an arrowkeys fundie.

I'd have it set to my controlset when I get it:

Ins=Strafe Left
Home=Forward
PgUp=Strafe Right
Del=Turn Left
End=Reverse
PgDn=Turn Right

Maus1=Fire
Maus2=Jump or Alternate Fire
Maus3=Reload or Jump
Mwheelup=Next Weapon
Mwheeldown=Previous Weapon

A-Z Keys=Various Keybinds and Comms Macros...

No, they use HJKL (Actually I use WASD for gaming, but I do use Vim, so an easy transition (or not, since it requires my right hand without training, which I need for using a mouse)).

Holy shit! I don't know how far I am, it can't be much. I swear, you can walk into the smallest crook & nanny, use your flashlight and check all around and something still pops out. I don't care how simplistic of a FPS this is, this is how I like 'em. Get down and dirty. I've even gone to clobbering people with the flashlight. It's freaky, and wonderful, and damn this game looks good.

As far as my control scheme goes, this is what I have. It was setup by someone for me a long time ago when I first played online with any game. It was the paintball mod of Quake.

Right Shift - Primary Fire
Enter - Alt Fire
/ - strafe left
Right CTRL - strafe right
. - jump
, - next weapon
[ - Previous inventory
] - Next inventory
\ - use inventory
' - use
; - crouch
L - drop weapon
K - reload weapon
Left Mouse - Walk Forward
Right Mouse - Walk Backward
Trackball thumb - look
MWheel - Weapons usually

I have to tweak it for different games and I have found that JK II was complicated at first until I got used to the Item/Weapon/Force setup you could utilize. Is it a bitch to use, not really, I don't usually quick button for different things. Do I kick ass? Hell...yeah.

To bad STALKER is getting pushed backed to Q1 2K5, apprently since this holiday season is the busiest ever, but that means more time to squeeze HL2.

HL2, STALKER and FEAR, tell me, what could be better?

Speaking of control setups, has anyone here tried the Nostromo Speedpad?

I almost bought one when I bought my 6800, but decided that since it lacked an entire row of keys my keyboard has, I'd skip it. There are only 14 left finger keys + 1 scroll wheel on the Nostromo, 25-28 on my MS Natural keyboard. The Nostromo has 10 thumb buttons, though (I'm pretty sure the d-pad is 8-direction), while usually only two buttons are used with the thumb on the keyboard.

Is there something similar to the Nostromo out there, but with a complete left-handed keyset? It'd be nice to get more use out of my left thumb than just spacebar and LAlt.

I used to use inverted mouse, then Rainbow Six came along and somehow made me go to regular. Wierd, huh?

To be honest, wait till its cheaper. It's *awesome* fun and the best looking FPS ever made, but damn if it's a bit simplistic to warrant that sort of cost.

Establishing the plot is not "for no reason". You already have a gun when everything goes to hell. You *did* pick up the gun at the security station, like you were told, right? I've *never* used melee attacks in Doom 3.

I agree with this. It's a stupid, artificial contrivance that annoys me no end.

The multiplayer was also nothing to brag about. I also played Battlefield Vietnam for the first time and it kicked DOOM 3's ass.
Battlefield 1942/ Vietnam are hardly appropriate analogies, since their single player is complete shit. Doom 3 is refreshingly a SP game first.

I'm using WASD for this game, though i used to be an arrowkeys fundie.

I'd be willing to bet that the engine automatically enables texture compression on cards with less than 256 MB of VRAM. Otherwise, texture-swapping would mutilate frame-rates.

A friend of mine picked up the ZBoard with the special DOOM keyboard. It has all the buttons you need on the left side and USB passthrough.

And that's a fucking scary game. I played a bit tonight and they did a nice job with it.

LoL! Fine catch PU. Even if I had caught that prior to the XP upgrade, I probably would have passed. I don't know enough to fuck around with half of what they were saying, and I can't pronounce the other half. The only problem with this upgrade is it's fucked the entirely stable, rock solid Star Wars Galaxies files. LoL!

All I know is I have got to save my shotgun shells. I'm barely anywhere and I keep blasting those licker flame thrower guys when they jump out. Damn I need some grenades.

I'm currently downloading the flashlight mod for the weapons (except the rocket launcher and BFG 9000 of course). Thank god for duct tape.
