hmm, with 35 regiments, most likely 28, because i will go for professional.

Question. If i go for professional, does that mean i can call up my people as reserves?

in other words, do reserves count towards regiments.

and how many troops to a regiment?

For the record, I will be remaining aloft, without a proper power. As the needs arise, I will handle any NPC powers that may get involved somehow, dealing with revolutions and covert actions, as well as determining any natural disasters that may occur.

NUMBERS MAN! Think NUMBERS! Because that's all that's going to save you when I get to your house. I'm thinking ten better than average regiments, and then fifty masses of barbarians that will crush your puny nations beneath their trampling feet.

Straha, not everyone gets to be a 100 regiment power. I'm stuck with 30.

I really like hotfoots map. With my people occupying the southern part of italy, we only have to put troops on that narrow strip to keep the enemy on land out.

Now ships on the other hand...

Just to reiterate folks, in case you missed it earlier:

There are your averages. Over that value, and you no longer have professional armies, but rather forces which have less training and cruder equipment, up to hordes of conscripts. Below those numbers is when you start getting Spartan Hoplites and the like.

Is it alright, like with what I said above, to have a, relativley, small corps of elite veteran and specialized units, and to have the rest be a bunch of raving lunatics?

I have nothing against gradiations of power inside the military, so long as you figure out what the total value of the army is compared to the average. For example, if you want to have a core of five elite regiments, each worth two standard regiments, and then the rest of your army be slavering hordes, each worth a fourth of one standard regiment, that would be fine by me, though there will be diminishing returns beyond a certain point (no one-man armies equal to Sauron, or one-ten thousandth regiment swarms, for example).

I know... I'm a grand power.

The way I see it I've got twenty regiments condensed down into ten elite ones, and I've got 30 raving regiments of Jihadistic fury increased up into sixty of them. My Army is not going to be a big proffesional army, it's going to be a bunch of fundamentalist commoners with swords, supported by trained veterans with scars over their body and devotion in their heart, along with a few good fleets and a couple flying brigades.

So do we get the 100/70/30 as a baseline of decent army, or is it halved and cut that for professional troops?

It says you're a medium one in the Ratification thread, so that's what you are.

The Grand Powers are about twice your size if I'm looking at the map correctly...

100/70/30 is for conscripts and barbarians. Half that, you've got deecent troops.

If you are a medium power with a lot of land, then you should probably just deal with it by having somewhat larger than average armies in order to compensate for your physical size. There is a cap on grand powers which we are rapidly approaching.

Edit: Gah, keep saying regional when I mean Medium. Same concept applies for all powers of course, but hey.

so Straha, are you just going to try and gooble up as many small powers as you can, or are you going to come after the big dogs?
