I have a lot of defeating to do. I will certainly destroy Carthage and Egypt in my current game, since the Scipii are so incompetent with regards to Carthage.

Well I'm playing Scipii and I brought Cartage on it knees. Got their 2 (of there 3?) cities including there capitol. Altough I must say I got lucky on an important battle were the enemies elephants stampeeded trough their own lines. I loved it :P

Got defeated by overconfidence also. I guess that happens when your playing Roman.
I lay siege on a town with 4 groups of hestati and a general. I tought it would be enough since it always had been enough in the past to conquer a small town. Turned out the comp had 1300 men including tons of ranged units (especially cavalry archers are a bitch) and I got horribly slaughtered when the comp attacked me from the city.

I made my 2nd army in northern africa a bit stronger by adding a ballista, one group of archers and a bit more infantry (i had to hurry since i wanted to complete the mission). 300 men total
Again, I lay siege and again the comp attacks me by breaking out. But this time I didnt wait but immediatly started rushing to the frontal gate and arranged my infantry in a horseshoe formation around the gate.

My gamble payed off as the comp sent his infantry trough the front gate which get slaughtered. He did stormed the flank and back with 2 sepetate cavalry charges but luckely I had my own generals mob to counter that. When I killed their general in their last charge the comp retreated to the centre of the town and altough I had losses on my own and still were outnumbered, the comp began to have serious problems with morale so I didnt had much problems with the rest. Heroic victory :)

I gotta make screenshots ;)

By the way: does sometimes someone else gets units stuck on each side of the wall when using ladders or towers?

How the fuck do you stop chariots, btw? They really caused a lot of damage to my infantry, and cavalry seem to get slaightered. I repeatedly attacked stationary chariots with cavalry auxilia, but not a single javelin hurled did any damage.

Get enough rows of infantry so they get stuck when they try to move trough?

Elephants. Or, better yet, Armored War Elephants. Being a big fan of the Quick Battle, I've both done this myself, and had this done to me. Elephants wipe chariots completely off the field.

If elephants are unavailable, a phalanx should do the job. Those sarissas should take care of anything that goes your way. just make sure the chariots don't get around your line to attack your flanks or rear. It'll be a massacre.

If you are playing Romans, and have no phalanx to speak of (or elephants, for that matter), try charging the chariots with Legionary cavlary from behind. I don't know if it'll work or not though. Theoretically, the horsemen should be able to hit them in the unprotected back.

Finally, the way that is guaranteed to work is rows upon rows of infantry. For the Romans, the triarii are best because of their spears, and because they're tough enough not to break. Be prepared for some casualties, though

Of course, if you're playing the barbarians, and have no disciplined spear infantry, and are up agianst Egypt or the Seleucids, you're screwed (the Britons' chariots are not that bad). But then again, you're screwed when you're facing the Romans, the Greeks, and anyone else, for that matter. Barbarians suck. But especially against cataphracts, chariots, and elephants.

Have a very nice day.

Heavy infantry can do a number on chariots. A two directional swarm of cavalry will also do the trick. In either case, you're going to take losses. Also, some types of chariots are very weak, and will quickly die if the infantry stalls them. I'm currently playing as Egypt, and I won't let my chariots get anywhere near infantry (unless they're routing).

Also, a crossfire with a few archer units can be devastating, but its not a reliable tactic.
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

Just managed to rout a 1,200+ army of Brutii using three units of Javelin-Slinging Greek Militia Cavalry and a general, together with the judicious application of a few mercenery Peltasts. :D

Of course, this was probably due to the fact that there was a 1000-strong allied army on the other side of the enemy, and most of them were understandably all facing the other way.

Its a Return of the King reference (for those of you who don't know what the hell an "Oliphaunt" is.)
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Speaking of elephants, has anyone figured out the best way of dealing with them?

Of course, the best course of action with the Oliphaunts is to run really fast in the opposite direction.

Have a very nice day.

Elephants are best dealt with by using incendiary pigs- they go insane. Barring that, skirmishers (velites, cavalry auxilia)

Perhaps there's an Uber sized Pikemen cheat to be found?

Massed infantry. Once they bog down, they get scared and run away. Sure you lose troops, but elephants are such a major advantage that it's worth it.

Gah, Carthage gets owned so easily by Rome. The only things you can buld right off hand that's worth anything are Iberian infantry and round shield cavalry, both of which are highly unsuitable for dealing with hastati. Although having armoured elephants is nice compensation.

Did you follow my advice?

P.S. Killed off the Greeks. Take that, Brutii! Before that, I killed Carthage, too.

damn siege tower bug

Cartage got taken by gladiator rebels. Seems like damn Cartage had public disorder every 2 years but this time my army was kicked out of the city. I attack it and when the siege tower gets to the wall and my men want to get on the walls, about 80% of them just fell to their death.

Needless to say, losses were higher than usual
