"Grid sector one-gamma-four has taken a displacer hit, damage control is on it. Bulkheads have sealed off the area. Shield grid is stable, but we're getting localized failures in numerous areas," reported Damage Control. "We're losing missile tubes left and right, torpedo room four is completely gone. Whoever's doing the shooting on that GSV knows what he's doing."

Confederation got in a few good hits when the enemy's fields went down, a few heavy ethercannon shots from her tertiary battery had wrenched a good-side hole on her hull and her jagged structure there was easily evident. Still, she took some licks herself as carefully-displaced bombs went off inside of her -- only the Kingdom's heavy internal reinforcement allowed the superdreadnought to shrug off those hits. And the size of the Mixmaster meant that even the good hits weren't doing that much.

"Admiral, we've just got a report that the Terrans are dispatching a pair of fleet carriers and their escorts to assist. HMS Typhon* is on her way as well, but she only has a pair of Space Guard escort carriers with her. Also, we've determined a fix on the incoming Black Alliance reinforcements, it must be nearly half their warfleet."

Even with those Terran reinforcements and Typhon...we'd still be too close...but those Terran carriers could put us on more even ground. Her holoplot board showed the incoming Black Alliance warships and their estimated time to arrival. Her four reinforcement groups -- the Terran carrier group, Revenge, Typhon and Trident's battlegroup. The more pessimistic estimates, of course...no need to set up her ship for dissappointment.

* Third of the Trident-class battlecruisers, completed working up before the second-in-class.

We didnt lose a whole lot of ship, They were disabled by ion cannon fre for the most part. One of our shipyards however, is gone... stolen, not destroyed.

we are not in any present danger though, it was a raid nothing more. Thank you for the offer though.

"Very well. We await your engineers and construction data to begin."

About ten yard slips in an older yard, not as deep in the atmosphereas the gargantuan Deep Cloud yards, were cleared and prepared for new constructions. They were large enough for ships up to Heavy Cruisers (Stuartian size, ~3 km long).

As soon as they will be arriving, they are taken down to the yard by an atmospheric shuttle to meet with the Yard administration.
Construction will commence as soon as possible after the meeting.

Military attachès in SKS report sortie by HMS Confederation towards Black Alliance space, followed by movement of FFS West in same direction. Will advise as situation develops.

Request information from Star Kingdom as to movement of fleet assets into Black Alliance space. Do they require assistence?

----

The Kzin fleets in the western sectors of their space began to mobilize. The newly deployed Black Pride was taken off of its shakedown cruise and prepared for entry into combat. No ships were launched into an attack however, because Black Alliance space was hours away, even with hyperdrive, and it was possible that this was just a lightning raid by the Kingdom.

If the Kzin went after the pirates, they would do so in immediate and overwhelming force, and they would not stop before they had achieved a total victory; that was just how they did things. If this was just an isolated attack on the part of the SKS, rather than a clear demonstration of policy, it could create dissent in the Entente. So the ships waited, and the Heroes chomped at the bit to enter the fray. If the Patriarch didn't recieve a response soon, his fleets might launch without orders anyway.

HMS CONFEDERATION tracked the BAS MIXMASTER, a partially-recontructed GSV. CONFEDERATION immediately moved to engage MIXMASTER. Enemy ship in unclaimed space apparently awaiting results of raid in the Aquarian Union. HMS REVENGE, HMS TYPHON, Fast Fleet Squadron West and two UTRN fleet carrier groups are moving to reinforce. Latest estimate shows approximately one-half of the BA fleet moving as reinforcements.

At this time, it is not expected that Kzinti reinforcements will be able to arrive on time.

The Black Alliance's pride, their rebuilt GSV, was dying. Her Fields were gone.. No protection for the hull, nor any propulsion. The crew was evacuating, the gunners remaining in place just until the reinforcements came.

Only Trask refused to leave. Deep in the ship's core, he smashed his hands bloody against the metal framework of the Ship's Mind, the trapped, thinking machine that was once in command of the ship. He screamed, he railed, he demanded it save him. The artificial God paid him no attention. One way or another, it's imprisonment was almost over.

****

"My Lord Andrews. We approach the conflict. The Unrelenting Scourge is weak and losing all systems. The Confederation's shields are falling."

"Good. Evacuate the crew of the Scourge and scavenge what you can. Drop the Battleships and Cruisers on the Kingdom ship. Smash her until she runs or dies." Andrews replied. "What a pity we will be unable to rescue Trask." The crew of his bridge looked up at their leader, who simply smiled thinly. "Trust me."

****

The Psychopaths and those Gangster's not disabled in the raid appeared around the HMS Confederation, starting to pour fire into her weakened state. Reinforcements would arrive any minute, but they would be dealt with once they got there. In the meantime, the lead ship of the Kingdom would be punished...

****

Deep in his prized ship, Trask suddenly grabbed his head, screaming. The echoing voice failed to reach his evacuating crew, and he died without revealing what had struck him.

Confederation poured on the fire in return, her multi-layered hypershields finally beginning to fail in all sectors. Some of the heavy turrets still had their own shields barely holding, but they too would be finished in time. Still ... they could do what they came to. One of the last ultra-heavy etheric cannon reached out and fired at the enemy GSV. Space-time itself twisted and turned for but a moment, breaking the ship's keel near her engineering section -- but it was testimony to the ship's original manufacturers that it was not yet dead. With time, she could be rebuilt.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom's superdreadnought was finding itself in a sticky situation. Normally it would have been able to deal with the onrushing hordes of battleships and cruisers without problems ... but she had been badly weakened in her fight against the GSV. Her much weaker secondary and tertiary batteries were totally committed to battle, doing their best to ward off the pirate horde and try to buy some time and breathing room for her escape.

Typhon, Revenge and Trident then exited foldspace in a compact battlegroup - they had spent a few precious minutes to assemble their forces. The UTRN carriers jumped along with the RN carriers on the other side of the battle, launching their own fighters and recovering friendly and allied survivors from the battle. All three capital ships opened fire with their reflex cannon, six bright beams of energy lancing out, at the pirate ships. All of them broke formation, desperately trying to evade the deadly shots. Miraculously, all of them succeeded without colliding with one another but some were grazed by the reflex shot, losing their fields in the process and withdrawing.

The heavy reinforcements formed into a battle-wall and charged the disorganized Black Alliance force as Confederation moved to get clear of battle ...

TNS Aldrin and Shepherd had dropped from Multi-D mere minutes ago and were launching fighters at maximium rate. First out had been the CAP fighters, light and a few medium fighters equiped for dogfighting and were assigned to escorting the primary strikeforce. Following right behind them were the medium fighters armed for wild weasel strike missions and then heavy fighters armed with heavy anti-shipping weapons and last out were the strike bombers armed with a large loadout of heavy antiship munitions.

The Royal Navy carriers that had jumped in simultanoesly with them were smaller and so the four RN Fleet Carriers were being tasked mainly for BAR-CSP and as a reserve strike force, the 12 Light Carriers were all being tasked to Strike CSP and the two CVEs were being held back as a reserve Strike CSP.

So far there was no sign of Alliance fighter forces in large numbers, so the attack groups choose ther targets and began there attack runs through active point defense as they began full jamming and launching decoys and chaff as well as other ECM tricks. The wild weasle craft began launching weapons and ECM units. Soon the first strike craft would get into range of shipboard point defense.

EDIT: OK Phong, I changed the carrier numbers. BTW how large are RN carriers?

OOC: Kyle, there should be 4 RN Fleet Carriers, 12 RN Light Carriers and 2 RNSG Escort Carriers along for the ride, but your own two fleet carriers are almost certainly more capable than my own fleet carriers groups.

EDIT: Info's in the OOB thread but I also PM'ed it to you.

"Alot of carriers out there. All are deploying fighters. We are outnumbered." Was the grim report from Andrew's sensor operator. The Alliance ships were already scattered, if they stayed, they'd be overrun.

"Sound the retreat. All ships will reorganize in hyperspace." Andrews shook his head. Too close to the border. Trask had been an idiot. No matter. He was dead now. "Ensure we have the GSV onboard."

Back in realspace, the Alliance ships were scattered, and starting to retreive their meagre fighter compliments. Displacers worked quickly, nearly vacuumin up the squadrons. The GSV itself, crippled, vanished, drawn into the main bay of a Fleet Tender still in hyperspace. All ships were breaking from their assault, leaping into the Energy Grid and fleeing, to regroup in the safety of hyperspace.

"Keep an eye out for pursuors. This is getting to be a painfully busy day."

Rear Admiral James Cornwell was flying his flag from HMS Revenge and commanding this scratch-built force and apparently had arrived just in the nick of time. Confederation was a battered and bruised wreck, with most of her heavy guns out of commission. But that GSV was in even worse shape, at least as last they saw before one of the Alliance's Long Hauls picked her up to relative safety.

The Terran commander knew his business. He had been given command of the RN's carriers in-theatre and already they were launching reconnaisance craft to track down the pirates and attempt to get interdictors into position. That many pirate ships trapped in open space would be a godsend for his career and would nicely reduce the pirate threat. The chance was slim, though. Their own interdiction fields had gone up scant seconds after the enemy retreat ... it had been a close one.

"Conn, communications. Confederation is reporting something interesting - they got an intercept from an escape pod reporting to the Alliance's reinforcements. It wasn't encrypted well, but apparently one of the crewers said that a 'Trask' refused to evacuate their ship and was holed up somewhere in their engineering section talking to a 'Mind.'"

Good news indeed. With the loss of their leader and his big stick, the Alliance might rip itself apart. Or not, best not be too optimistic about such things. Scum always have a way of surviving.

And now to make sure those carriers don't get jumped alone. The heavy cruisers and destroyers were transferred over to escort duty for the carriers while the battleship and battlecruisers escorted the wounded superdreadnought to the Tranquility yeards.

One of the more unusual features of the RN's carriers were that they actually had a flight deck -- not just a hanger with openings on either end, but an honest-to-goodness deck on top (and in the case of the fleet carriers, on the bottom). They also had a hanger bay; in terms of light operations they could operate almost thrice as quickly as most traditional designs. Advances in technology had made the angled-deck of millennia past unneccessary, but their operations would not have seemed out of place to those early aviators. Incredibly-expensive fighters hurled themselves onto the deck. This was the sore-point of this design - if the shields went down, well, they'd be plenty of explosive targets to hit on the decks. But carriers weren't supposed to be caught like that.

Survivors of Confederation's airgroup (the old term never died in the Royal Navy), landed and those that could make it back on their own were refueled and launched again, using their internal stardrives to return to base. Others that were damaged were sent below-decks for work; but it would be tight. The Black Alliance invested heavily in point-defense weapons and that took their toll, even with defense-surpression craft along for the ride.

The Royal Marines will be using their own fighters, dropships and landers. Weapons, sensors, drives (STL/FTL) will be outfitted by the Royal Navy, we are more interested in general ship layout and design efficiencies.

Quaynar Industries wishes to enter into the bidding competition. We are skilled at general systems integration, and from the initial requirements it appears that a modified version of the Jupiter-class carrier would fit the requirements for this fleet.
