The crowd surged forwards down the wide roadway. Brisbanee City had been quite beautiful- Queen Mackenzie had kept the place well maintained. They were, against all logic, moving towards the sound of shooting.

A half dozen boxy, low-slung shapes nosed around the far end of the road. Commonwealth medium tanks, each one sporting a brutal-looking heavy flashgun and gimble-mounted frag cannon. A wave of black, faceless shapes moved up around the vehicles. Team-crewed weapons were deployed behind piles of rubble.

A figure emerged from the top hatch of one of the tanks.

CEASE AND DESIST. THIS CITY IS NOW UNDER COMMONWEALTH MARSHAL LAW. RETURN TO YOUR HOMES, AND YOU WILL NOT BE HARMED. REPEAT: RETURN TO YOUR....

A shot rang out, the low, flat hiss of a EM coilrifle. The soldier tumbled backwards off the vehicle, his face a ruined mess from the hypervelocity flechette.

All hell broke loose.

Flashguns on low swept back and forth across the crowd, beams of man-made lightning burning air, clothes, and flesh with equal ease. The front ranks of the crowd became a tattered mess of flash-cooked flesh and fabric. The crowd surged back, and then literally splashed as the vehicle-mounted frag cannon opened up with antipersonelle rounds. A storm of ceramic shards tore vast swaths in the mob.

"CEASE FIRE! CEASE FIRE!" A centurion shouted, aloud and through his command network.

The crowd was already retreating. Hundreds of bodies lay, smoking on the pavement.

"This is Kappa Century, 35th Kelian. Request a Peacekeeper legion by the Dockside region..."

Reports continue to stream in from the former Grand Empire about atrocities commited by Commonwealth soldiers agaisnt Brisbanian citizens who are only trying to preserve there own way of life.

The Commonwealths needless invasion of the empire and there decision to occupy teritory is contray to all international standards and is the sign of a primitive agressive nation. Actions such as those by the Commonwealth are what led to the devestation fo the great war.

It's time for the civilized nations of the galaxy to wake up too what the Commonwealth is doing. It's time for a stand to be made. I challenge our government and the other great powers to take action. Do they have the courage to do so.

"50 Million by terrorist bombs on Desjardins. Five million more on Kelia. Literally hundreds of millions killed by the Brisbanian Imperial Navy at Uktena and Causus Bay, and they hardly bat an eye. But have a couple of hundred armed rebels killed in active, honorable combat, and they plaster it all over their ridiculous news-nets. Hand-wringing fools. If the civilized nations can not fight to bring barbarians like the Brisbanians back into the fold, then human civilization is truly doomed."

He spat.

"I would like to congratulate you, Direcctor Connerson. Your intelligence was unusually accurate, and your efforts in capturing Queen Mackenzie have greatly assisted our invasion. Once we got Peacekeeper units to clean up the rebels, resistance in the area completely collapsed. We are already rounding up and disarming their military forces and hunting down the last of their high command."

The other man spread his hands.

"I am simply doing my job, Mister President. I assume you called me here for something more besides chit-chat?"

President Von Braun smiled.

"But of course. HUMINT from the PRC has not been sufficient. I know your people in place are doing what they can, but I want an intensification. Transfer some more of your best agents to the region. We need to have a more clear idea as to what they are about. I don't want any of your actions yet, Mister Connerson. We will fight like I was taught, face-to-face as per the teachings of the New Bushido."

"But of course, Mister President. I'll get to work immediatly."

News from the Republic of Jenistat. The provisional council has approved a treaty that will make the Republic an associated member of the Free Star Alliance. Most feel that this is only a minor step on the Republics journey to eventually become a full allied member of the Free Star Alliance. As an associated member the Republic will gain most of the advantages of an allied member though with reduced influence on the larger scale of the alliance and with greater local autonomy.

Presiden Devlys today announced that he will be using a portion of the Presidential Discretionary Fund for additonal naval construction expenditures. This new building program will consist of two Fleet Carriers, two Battleships, one Battlecruiser and a construction run of a dozen frigates for escort and scout duty.

Today Senator Green spoke on a bill in the senate he introduced to increase military aid to the Free Star Alliance. To quote the senator. "They are our brethren and distant kin, we can not abandon them. They stand as our shield to the south and we can not let that shield grow weak." The bill passed the senate with over 80% approval and passed the assembly with a similar margin.

As the senate and assembly only determine what amount of money will be spent on military aide the Naval Construction Comand and the President today announced that the new funds would be used to construct a Battleship for the alliance, a Battlecruiser and eight Light Cruisers.

"Sir, long range scan array twenty-nine's picking up a massive fold space signature, originating in the PRC and terminating in the Three Suns Commonwealth. We're also picking up energy signatures consistent with a amss mobilization through the Commonwelaths gate network. It looks like they're stripping there mobil defense fromt he frontier and concentrating in there capital."

The Captain in charge of the operations center immediatly contacted the Naval Command Response Center on Luna. After he told the admiral comamnding the Center of the new inteeligence it was up to them to review the data and create contingency plans on how to respond to it, as well as to inform the political leadership if needed.

"Do you reliaze what they've done? Both of them in trying to concentrate such a huge fleet has left themselves almsot wide open. This could get very interesting."

"I just got something from Intelligence Division, reports are in that pirate forces have struck Cornerian space."

"See it's starting already. I've got to say that so far neither side has impressed me with there use of strategy. Rather simplistic planning"

[ooc] No, they aren't all real ships. Most of them are massively overdriven one shot fold drives. Not really any chance of figuring out which are real and which are decoys until they finish emerging, at which point I get a good chance at shooting down the incoming missiles. [/ooc]

The fleet emerged. Like many other times, it came out firing. Unlike the usual, the missiles weren't aimed at any ships. Many of the were aimed at the various fixed defenses, but most of them were aimed at spots on the planet. Specifically, the centers of government. Immediately after the first salvo, many of the missile tubes began spewing decoys.

Normally even this wouldn't have made a scrap of difference, if it weren't for the fact the ship forming the centerpiece of the PRD formation wasn't carrying a superlaser. It fired, directly over the Ark.

Nearly seven thousands of Succubus strike craft and Valkyrie superiority fighters scrambled ahead of the main formation, diving in at the enemy Dreadnoughts. They were covered by two volleys of ECM and decoy missiles in their approach.

A hologram floated in the middle of the desk, slowly rotating. At first glance the vessel shown there was on of the Nutless Eneuch-class fleet support vessels but a closer look would give lie to that.

"We call her the Warblade, glorious sir, and we were actually able to exceed the project specs."

A section near the bows of the vessel turned red and another detailed holo popped up.

"We were actually able to integrate a 50 degree of bore targeting capability for tactical and strategic targets. The focusing assembly constitutes nearly the whole mass of her forward areas but that was necessary to provide the desired redundancy."

The holo shifted to the engine assemblies.

"As you can no doubt see, glorious sir, we've up engined over the standard tender design. She'll be their top speed but will still be significantly slower than an HOU. Never the less she's faster than a tender and can maintain a decent tactical speed."

"Mmmm." the Affront Grand Admiral looked interested

"And sir, powering these will be too Grid Tap power plants in order to provide the necessary power for shield, weapons, and the cannon."

"How long to deliver it."

"A matter of months, glorious sir, with the halt of the construction of the tender. One was to far along to serve as the basis, with all the structural modifications necessary, but the other will serve admirably."

[Affront Seven]

The massive frames of the new Nest Space were being assembled in veiw the whole of the system. Huge constructs, they dwarfed many planetary moons, they would be the heart of the new home system and it's network of feeder systems. As yet they weren't much more than skeletons but they were taking shape.

Already a number of colonist, willing and not so, were being ferried to the system's planet, actually a habitable moon of the primary gas giant. Following them were a number of freight transports waiting with colonial supplies, defensive equipment mostly.

The Azegart fleet watched the Commonwealth fleets withdraw. After licking their wounds for a days, skulking in the outer system, they were ready to complete the job they set out to do. They had taken heavy losses but they had hurt their enemies as badly. Now they were prepared to finish the job, replenished and repaired as much as possible.

"Signal the Dunlap forces, we'll open up with a long range hypermissle bombardment, I don't want an unexpended missle when we go in. Then send in the fighters."

The Azegart Admiral gave a wolfish smile.

"Then the battle line will advance. The puppet's hulks won't stand up to us."

President Devlys sighed, as he read the message. UTR policy was very clear. "Activate Protocol Alpha-One."

With that simple order he ordered the reusmption of SLAM deployment. Missiles were reassembled from old stockpiles and were prepped for movement.

The Commonwealth wall of battle closed with the enemy. They enjoyed a significant numerical advantage- roughly 40% of the Commonwealth fleet was present, and the twenty surviving weapons platforms were adding their considerable firepower to the barrages.

The Cornerian warships would only have a short window of time before the Commonwealth vessels were in energy weapons range. Already, the Commonwealth vessels were firing missile volleys to back up their fighter squadrons.

They'll have hours until the Cornerian forces in this part of the Galaxy have time to arrive on station."

Commonwealth Intelligence had been scoping out the People's Republic for over a year- so far their efforts at infiltrating the higher parts of government had failed- but locating the massive shipyards of the Republic had been quite simple.

Over the Cornerian capital, Assault Manipule Alpha dropped out of hyperspace, at a significant distance from the capital world.
