EDIT: Updated at Beowulf's request, due to the fact that the 7th fleet is already engaged.

While the PRC's fleets were out playing in distant lands, the Black Alliance's remnants and their allied mercenaries were having a field day on the underprotected shipping lanes. With only the 2nd fleet unengaged, entire convoys were getting jumped.

And the ships bearing the mark of the Alliance proved the most dangerous. Without any other ships to engage them, they toyed with the 2nd Fleet's meagre forces a little, before sweeping through Sector Capitals, obliterating the stationary defenses with Displaced warheads and long range blasts. The planetary shields were being handled with care; the PRC's incompetent engineers had somehow made a shield that would incinerate what it protects if you overloaded it. While this was a boon for a military leader, the pirates wanted plunder.

The solution was thankfully easy. A Psychopath's ion array was sufficient to induce just enough of a short circuit to make fluxs in the shield. Once the fluxs were skittering through the shield and into their projectors, a Displacer operator could find the right ones to shunt the wormhole through and onto the generator. Up came the generator, disconnected from it's web. A hole now existed, and larger, more plunderful grabs made.

It was, in all respects, a brilliant plan. The only problem was that even in just making the fluxs through the multiple layers of Hypershielding, the ridiculously badly made PRC shields were leaking energy back into the atmosphere. Perhaps by pity, the pirates seized up most civilized land under the hole, sparing the citizens from the effects.

The fleet leapt back into Ultraspace, loaded down with plunder. The takings of the most populated sections of the Sector Capital would take a while to divvy up, partly because of the fools actually trying to resist. The Tenders left the area, taking most of the assault force with them.

From the assorted missile tubes of the fleet, millions more fold decoys were deployed.

The fleet lept into fold drive, with new fold signatures appearing in Osiris, Togo, Mutsu, Jacob's landing, and the Harbinger March.

The Commonwealth attack fleet had split into elements, with the intention of drawing out the Second Fleet at one place, and then concentrating to strike at another, but it became rapidly clear such operations would not be necessary. the Cornerians were already heavily engaged.

Three different worlds were hit.

Over Target World A, a major Cornerian construction depot, Assault Manipule Gamma and Heavy Response Manipule Theta dropped from hyperspace at point-blank range between the shipyards and the planets they orbited. Manipule Theta interposed itself against the incoming fire from the fixed defenses, blasting apart the missile barrages with Swarmer pods.

The Uller and the Skadi, with their rosettes of escorting Heavy Cruisers, opened fire into the unprotected shipyards. The shields didn't hold for long under raw strength of a Commonwealth Dreadnought's broadside, and the second they collapsed, the heavy guns began carving the exposed superstructures to peices.

Explosions rippled across the vast construction yard as the building slips came apart. A staggered volley of high-yeild unguided bombardment missiles spelled the doom of Target A's shipyards.

Assault Manipule Theta had nearly exausted it's PD swarmer supply, but it was too late for the Cornerian defense gunners. The two manipules burst into Hyperspace, heading back to the missile colliers for resupply and new orders.

The scene was carried out over two more Cornerian worlds. New Bushido forbid the usage of weapons of mass destruction against innocents, but the Commonwealth's navy had it's methods.

The rest of the decoy's had been sent to well... decoy the defenders of the TSC. Here however, the real fleet had jumped to. Again, the fleet opened fire at the planet, and again, the superlaser blasted the planetary shields away, leaving the planet bare to the missile barrage. Soon enough the defenses would react.

It was a single ship. By some standards, it wasn't even collosal, though such standards would be the Black Alliance's. She was a Naggarok-class battleship, a ship not seen in this Milky Way in centuries. As she exited her Wormhole into PRC space, millions of missiles swarmed to greet her. The Foldshields that enveloped her effortlessly sent them.. elsewhere. Energy weapons by the thousands spoke, still to no avail. Yet the mighty behemoth did not fire back. It's comm systems fired up, speaking through every ansible in the Republic.

General query - All nations

Recently a very large number of people died all at once, most likely due to the use of some sort of superweapon. Although that in itself is tragic, there was also the unexpected side-effect in the form of a loud psychic scream. Those of you who also use psionics, magic, the Force, and other such disciplines no doubt noticed it like we did. The effects disrupted a number of delicate experiments and proved very bothersome to our psionic sensitives.

This intolerable racket can not be allowed to continue. We propose a convention to be held at some mutually agreeable time and place to discuss means of preventing such disruptions in the future.

For much of her history, the Star Kingdom (and her progenitors) remained wholly ignorant of the power of protoculture. By fusing magic with technology, the Kingdom found itself able to power fold drives and reflex cannon without the arcane and baffling plant that was called protoculture. However, the process was inefficient so nearly a hundred years back the Kingdom began integrating protoculture into their hybrid reflex cannon.

The result was an increase in total efficiency; the protoculture did not affect the chronometric hyperfold drive, which was much different than the original fold drive system. And so, the Kingdom kept producing it, stockpiling supplies for when they were needed -- like now, with the repair job on HMS Confederation. But there were other orders ... ones sending warning to prepare to take the superlaser out of mothballs. No word on if it would actually be fitted back in ...

He had not a few decoys to use when needed, all carefully groomed. The discussion was with the ancient being known simply as Brother Kynes. He wore a simple robe and a copper ring, yet he was the most powerful being on Earth by far.

The Terrae had not been pleased to discover that planetary biospheres were being wrecked ... again. Calcite was seeking advice, and was also taking Brother Kynes's concerns into account as to if the Kingdom would restart her long-dormant strategic weapons programme ...

The Corporate Sector Board of Executives has, in recent light of the events in the Cygnus Arm, decided to integrate tactical-scale compound turbolasers into two of the four Sonoma-class CBBs now under construction at Quaynar's Deneb Shipyards. While the original order for the behemoth ships only numbered three, the recent re-starting of the production lines and escalation of events in the galaxy has prompted the Board of Executives to procure a second one, with updated weaponry, to replace the aging and increasingly outdated flagship UTRN Vanguard.

To appease the proponents of life throughout the galaxy, the compound turbolaser systems that will be installed on the two new-production Sonomas are only of a sufficient power level to break through most shielding systems. Actual power levels are classified but well under the threshold needed to utterly destroy a planetary mass.

The battered Azegart ships turned and began firing into the heart of the enemy orbital works. The fleet put several thousand hypermissles into H-space. With all the times they had been skulking at the system edge they had dialed the orbital defenses into a fair thee well.

Decoys and jammers suckered off many of the missles but as many managed to find their targets. Hundreds of heavy warheads began going off against the shields of the battlestation on the near side of the planet.

A massive fighter strike, launched at full strength and with determined pilots began winging their way to target even as the deadly rain continued.

The provisional forces covering the Gates were no match for the PRC fleets, even with their damage. It was a systematic slaughter of the light provisional forces.

After a short, sharp naval action the remaining Gates were put out of commission.
