Re: SDN Diplomacy - part III - commentary thread
This is the part I don't get:
Western Mediterranean MOVE Spain (South Coast) -> resolved
Gulf of Lyons SUPPORT Western Mediterranean to Spain -> Supported order does not correspond
Do they have some sort of ruling that you need to specify which coast you support to? That I've never had to do before.

Re: SDN Diplomacy - part III - commentary thread
I feel like Fall 1905 was the last best chance to stem the Turkish tide, with a combined Russian-German-Austrian attack on Galicia and the Ukraine. Instead the Russians stabbed for Berlin - a deeply unfortunate choice, under the circumstances. After that I don't think there were big enough weaknesses on the part of the Turks for anyone to get a foothold pushing them back. I might have missed some though - Spoonist, any times you were going "Oh shit I hope they don't do this?"

Re: SDN Diplomacy - part III - commentary thread
Only... Germany never had any intentions to side with the Russians on anything, my entire diplomatic history with them is them trying to pursuade me to help them destroy the Russians.
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

Several times. I'll outline them in an AAR if anyone wants it. If you look at the pattern I overstretch many times, however due to diplomatics I was never worried about being actually stopped after 1904. The other players except for atg were simply too defensive/passive and continued to make small exploitable mistakes. The only worry was if I'd be able to go solo or not. Germany went NMR and France didn't do anything, Russia and Austria was on the ropes. A more aggressive England and I would have had to share it.Scottish Ninja wrote:I feel like Fall 1905 was the last best chance to stem the Turkish tide, with a combined Russian-German-Austrian attack on Galicia and the Ukraine. And I think that Russia made the logical choice, going versus Berlin and centers in Germany. Without that move he would have made a much easier target.
You have to remember that we lost Germany in 1904 and after that he was not communicating or posting orders. So Russia couldn't make a defensive line with him.
Also if you look at the orders in Fall 1905 I'm using Galicia to cut so him staying wouldn't have made a difference.
The only real worry was when I went on vacation and had a substitute... That could have ended pretty badly.
Mind you the tactics and style I used in this game wouldn't have worked with any other countries than Turkey and England, if I'd had any other country such style would make you dead quick.

Re: SDN Diplomacy - part III - commentary thread
Hey, I was being as agressive as I could be, just given thanks to my stupid first turn moves, an at the tiem active German was able to cap 3 centres and thus was a very real threat to me!
Maybe if I'd betrayed the Russians shortly after taking Germany I could have pressed in and stopped you... but at the time France was still being moderatly active and parking all their armies on my new land border.

A pity about the outcome. Yet it was still a good game.

Im definately up for a rematch if people are interested

I'd like to think I have improved a bit via the learning experiance of this game and would certainly like a rematch.
Also, Spoonist, I myself would indeed like a AAR for our game.
