god, but that was an exhausting round.
I spent 4 hrs taking out the green party. I lost rivers of blood, but took every city they had on land. 150 units, lost, in seige warfare or missile attacks.
but the computer got so sick of my atrocities it brought back the charter
I also gained 4 new wonders, and am unsurpased again. one of them adds fifty percent to my vote in council - with green's new population with me, I can make myself governor. and the trade raters were doubled a while back, *and* Im morgan, so I expect a lot of money coming my way.
I have discovered a simply wonderful mode of war. my needlejets move in waves, wasting the garrison, as my artillery peices move up and pummel the place, also finding out how many guys are there. then my great boils (I have them as garrison! hasnt been a sucessful invasion yet!) zip in and do slum clearance.
by the time my 8-5-1s arrive, the garrison is begging for death
and Ive been invaded fairly frequently, with missiles, jump troops, or landings. I reply with endless hordes of boils, and jump troops of my own.
next stop - capture a green base off the coast of the believers, and bring in my airplanes

bleh. each turn takes 20 minutes.
sparta is launching conventional missiles by the boatload at me. every round. believers are doing infrequent invasions, and gaians are doing infrquent overflights.
I can deal with that.
Im on a total war stance - every city produces units, every research goes to combat, every tax goes to straight cash. to maintain my garrisons and finish off the scraps of gaians, I am going into debt.
in effect, I am using all my effort to stay in place. with believers, hive, and sparta learning tech and trading, as well as keeping me in place, their victory will happen sometime in the next 500 years. my tech is not rising.
I have captured the gaian outposts I needed to begun my assualt on the believers' mainland - but any planes I place there for air spport are instantly destroyed by missiles. I cant go any farther in territory.
all of this is due to the bombardment of spartan missiles. my reinfrocements have to become garrisons, so I am not paratrooped. my airsupport cannot attack enemy bases, because when they gather, they are destroyed. any ships I send out are hit.
without the missiles, I will be adding 30 units every 3 turns, as well as making a profit in money. that will allow an extensive conquest in which I can steal tech.
it is imperative I make brotherhood with sparta. I am willing to offer half my military, all my tech, all my cash, any five cities except my capital, 3 wonders, and I will offer an additional 3 sea colonies to close the deal.
I have never seen the computer ask for such a price, but I am willing to pay it.
so now, I am waiting for them to answer my call.

I used to be a big Civ2 fan. I never could get into AC or Civ3, though. Maybe I'll dust off one of the two and give it another go.
One of the things that always annoyed me, though, was the limit on turns. I want to play until I either gloriously conquer all that I survey or laugh insanely in the burning ruins of my once great civilization, dammit! Why should the game suddenly end on turn X? When you play chess, you play until a king is checkmated. Generally, anyway.

Yes, you'd be calculating every single terraforming job while we'd spell out "Penis" with sensor posts.

Dammit, I can't find my AC CD. If nothing else, that project that gave you a free energy bank at every base was worth it. Though I did like the pirate faction.

so, after tired of getting mauled on librarian level, I reloaded as specialist. fresh air, very relaxing. tiny map.
so Im morgan, with my hive mentality. I explore. I find gaia. they have their city emptied to explore. I take it, its destroyed, and gaia is gone. I rebuild in that area.
I expand north, meat university, plan invasion. form death mobile brigade. hive comes down and meets me, demands tech, I say no, we war. I take a city, lose my first wave, and sign a treaty. I break treaty, attack them again, wipe them out. since Im in the area, I take out university as well.
Im on an hourglass island, with an extension peeling off to the right. I kill off most of my death mobiles, leaving one in each city, and convert to formers, making the island pretty. I extend my colonies, until every space is claimed for cities. my cities begin build mentality.
un comes by on a ship. I say hi. they give me maps for money - to the south is a huge continent. I make treaty with spartans, and watch as both they and un are slaughtered by believers.
I sigh at the foolishness of spartans.
so its me on small continent, them on big continent. they declare war cuz Im a democracy. they land troops, I kill them with higher tech deathmobiles, or fast response needlejets. they turn war economy, and I basically ignore them.
my cities, on autopilot, begin gathering forces. so I say hey, why not.
I send in needlejets and clear out a coast city, and land a paratroop. I use that as a base, and attack a second coast city, finding the wonderful multiple attack ability of copters, and conquer it too. I head for the third city, and realize I dont have the troops to take it. my helicopter is 12-3-12 facing 1-3-1, but there's 15 of them, with more coming in every turn.
so after causing 30 enemy unit deaths, without loss, I withdraw, obliterating the cities behind me.
I shift my forces to the other end of my continent - air power and railroads are goood. . .
I do a blitzkrieg, wipe out garrisons of 3 cities. my paratroop drops in, obliterates, and drops to the next. over the course of 15 turns, I annhilate their 7 biggest cities, and an equal number of great wonders. I escape with half my force, but believers are hemmorging.
about this time my planetbusters come online
I launch 5, 2 of them clean. instead of a vast and powerful continent, it is strips of islands with one or two cities on them. I launch a few more nukes, just to be sure. they are done to 2 cities. at one point, I launched a nuke, but couldn't detonate, cuz the city had no garrison.
unfortunate side effect - the planet is angry. and when it's angry. . it turns GREEN!!
well, red. kind of a curly white red. anyway, I have 20 or 30 new demon boils spawning a round, as well as 5 or 6 global warmings. my cities begin to use their pressure domes. my formers, all alone on the land, fight off demon boils and win. I love esp bonuses.
due to the vast slaughter of demon boils, Im making a huge fortune. I produce a wonder every two turns and all my cities go into research mode. at one point, I got the darwins voyage thing, 2 advances, and then it was a secret, so I got a third. I switch to cybernetics, and I get an advance every 3 turns. then I got eudaemonism, and am learning every 2 turns, and making 100 gold a round,
my plan is working. now, to try it on higher levels

so I attempt it on the higher level - 3rd easiest, small map. Im morgan, and I put my two cities to explore, tech to explore. I come across sparta almost instantly, make a peace treaty. they I trash their capital. as I expand outwards with oolony pods, I finish off their last city. sparta is the first country to go.
my basic strategy of garrison, colony pod, former, and recycle tanks seems to be working well - Ive build planetary transit, and my population is doing wonderfully. Ive also built esp guild, and have beome planetargy voernor. Ive basically expanded as much as possible, with a treaty with gaia and zakharov (he's getting annhilated by hive) and Ive next to u.n. I think Ill attack them next.

ah, the joy of wondermongering.
I was right, hive did wipe out university, then started in on believers. that lasted around 150 turns.
un the meantime, between 2200 and 2250, I changed my peace time development to war machine, took over the u.n and 3 wonders (boils and deathmobiles vs low moral low tech troops is funnny. . .) and took out gaia and 4 wonders. I now have every wonder on the map, and spent the next 50 tuns building hab conplexes and the clone bays. now I have 30 population 13 cities, five of which can pump out a new secret project in 10 turns. Im learning a new tech every two, and getting 90 gold on the way.
oh yeah, and I finished off the believers, and have launched 3 singularity bombs at the hive. double mushroom cloud. . . wow. their biggest cities are no more, and those were population 5. my cities, the ones that have every improvement, are churning out singularity bombs every 5 rounds, and I have something like 20 wonders. hive has the merchant exchange, only. I think I'll nuke that next.
and Im not even trying for military victory - Im a breathe away from transcendence.

erm, I just started playing AC, and I have a small problem. My P4 2.5 Ghz is not supported, and it causes the game to crash (usually when I am doing relatively good, but that's just a coincidence, I think). I updated to the latest version on the official site (4.0, i think), and changed ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0 to 1 in Alpha Centauri.ini, as it said on EA Technical Support. The game runs, but crashes every time, about 15 min into the game. This really sucks, cause I like the game, and If there is any way to fix this, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mitth
