They do work for saved games?

Tuxedo better churn a turn with the new patch just to be on the safe side. And we don't want half the people submitting .plr files this turn with 1.08 and half the people with 1.13 or wierd shit might happen. I suggest running this turn with 1.08 and the next turn up to 1.13 if Tuxedo so chooses.

It looks like they fixed the ordinance bug, good good. No mention of increasing resupply depot production though...

Well there is no going back, because I can't not run the latest version, and I already submitted my turn under the new patch. I suggest you punks do the same :P

 Goddamn, what would've happened if the steam update did break saved games huh? Did you use the "backup local content" like I suggested? You could've been kicked out of the game man.

Okay I'm updating right now and trusting you. Everybody get going on 1.13, hopefully it all works out.

I don't have time to download and install the patch before going to bed tonight, so there's a stay of execution until tomorrow morning.

Tuxedo you cunt, you gave the turn out on Monday so we demand the usual 48 hours! Not our fault you didn't tell us on Sunday man.

Just kidding. But for real, I assumed that it was 48 hours from the time you shit out the old turn. Good thing you don't have time to download the patch or I would've missed and can't have my grubby ministers ruining everything.

How exactly do mines work? Mines can be launched in combat now?

And drones can be recovered... this adds a whole new layer of complexity.

Goddamn just tried to launch 10000 mines in combat and the game crashed eating my turn... sigh.

10,000. Why would you possibly need that many mines in one place?

I used the "add more" and in my hurry I clicked 10,000 instead of 1000 and I had more than 100 in my hold.

So how exactly do the mines work, I'm lazy I don't want to start my SE:V up again... are they stationary things other ships walk into like dummies or do they home in? Do they still work like SE:IV mines in that they can be launched outside of combat or are they just another weapon?

Sorry for the delay, but I wasn't home at all yesterday. I have to leave for work in 15 mins, so I can install the patch and execute when I get back.

Turn 7

Executes on Sunday, November 12th at 9:00 PM PST. I expect that some people will probably not have checked this thread, and will have submitted under the 1.08 version, so don't be surprised if the game is broken and we have to roll back. I'm keeping a backup of the game file and all the turns just in case, so that only the 1.08 will have to send new ones.

Turn 8

Executes on Tuesday, November 14th at 9:00 PM PST. This one took a month of Sundays to process, so I thought the file would be huge, but it's no bigger than the others. Go figure. Two people missed.

Only 3 hours until execute, yet only 3 turns in. What's up?

Turn 8 away.

This turn's combat file wasn't 0 KB. How did the first SDN SE:V combat go, who won?

Neither do I.

I'm thinking colony ships ran in a traffic jam. But who knows, some people are starting one system away so it might be warships.

My good old trick of ramming colony ships doesn't work either. Ah well. Acceleration's a bitch, fat ships are slow as shit. But they brought in retreat rules with 1.13, the yellow circle... haven't experimented with combat though.

My scout bumped into a colony ship, no shots fired. I do have warships, however, since I've already made contact with two other races and only one of them agreed to a treaty.

You can look under empire (the crown icon) then click on comparisons.

Last time I checked I was about average with 9 worlds, and some shithead had 12. I'm behind for sure. I'm average with around 5-6 ships and somebody has 10+. I made mistakes in the beginning though, but a few extra worlds early and a few extra ships shouldn't matter.

How does the new 1.13 combat arena work? When you reach the yellow line does it let your ship "retreat" or is map like SE:IV's boxing ring and the ship can't move beyond the yellow line?

Your scout could've frakked that colony ship had it one puny gun :).

True, but I don't want to be pissing people off by blowing up their colony ships needlessly. I have warships if I want to do that if I want to.

And I only have 5 worlds. One of my starting systems only had two colonizable planets and the other just has my home planet and three stars. What's more, it seems like other players are coming from two out of three directions in which I could potentially expand. :(

I'm not positive how the combat areana works since I didn't bother watching the replay, but in the report one of the ships was listed as having retreated so I assume that it's not like SEIV closed battlefield.

Every world I'm colonizing, even shit worlds, I'm building a space yard on. I'm running under the assumption that I'll have to militarize quickly, though I haven't ran into anybody yet (and don't expect to, I have 4 star systems to myself heh heh.)

There's a huge ramp up, whoever's first or last doesn't really matter since homeworlds are so powerful. I'm running 120k+ waste, and even if I had 20 worlds building it wouldn't eat that all up. No problem with last, most everybody else here's played SE:IV.

A nice surprise last turn was I built 2 research centers instead of one. As long as I repeat build, the construction "bleeds" over, which is very nice.

As for play-by-email, it gets better IB when the game's developed and turns take 30 minutes to an hour, and when you're playing two games. Then it becomes bearable, since 30 minutes to an hour every day of SE is more than enough. When PBW2 comes out and this is all automated instead of Tuxedo having to churn it, SE:V should be a lot more fun. Though they really should have built in accessible multiplayer in the game, without it the game's crippled IMO.
