Awesome screenshots. They tell a story of sorts.

What timezones are you guys sitting in and @ what time do you play? I would love to join - with the current "shoot first ask questions never" tendency it is just impossible to team up with someone you don't know already.
I raided Balota, Cherno, Elektro, went back to Cherno. Got a full survival kit, a 1911, an AKS with a Kobra sight but with only one mag and can't for the love of pete find more. Got plinked at by some lame ass bandit sniper, who expended about 30 rounds of CZ ammo just to not hit me. Going north now.

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
I'll be getting the game tonight. Is there a group that plays nights CST/EST that would be willing to have a newbie? I've seen mention of a TS, but not the info. If anyone ever needs to use a voice server, I do have a mumble server I run.
If it waddles like a duck and it quacks like a duck, it's a KV-5.

...Logged back in at the Balota control tower. As I'm spawning, hear gunfire. Screen resolves and there's a bandit standing over a killed survivor. He turns to me in surprise and eats eight rounds of 7.62/39. Next thing you know, I'm rocking a Czech backpack and his AKS Kobra, with room to collect an M4A1 CCO, which I have a few mags for back at the tent(unless it's been raided). At tent site, waiting for server so I can stash some loot.

Apologies Alyeska, I meant to play with the SD.net folk, but we finally got a sizable group of friends playing, and I have been running with them.
We had two freaking awesome moments last night. After spending over an hour collecting the new/wayward members, we were seven strong and headed back to our primary basecamp to get them equipped. As the others frakked with their inventories around the tents, I detoured to check a nearby deer stand. Suddenly there was the crackle of gunfire, and the guy at my tent announces "motherf***er I'm down; two people at Rekkon's tent!" I immediately told everybody to head there. "Check your targets! We do not any friendly fire." I flanked left as more shots rang out and another one of our guys went down. Names and targets information started to come in. A 1911 barked, and my friend said he got one. Return fire then killed him. I came up from the remaining bandit's 3 o'clock and blew him away with an AK-74. At first it looked like he disappeared, and we thought he had disconnected, but both bodies were eventually located and stripped. We lost two people, the first guy barely survived and was given a blood transfusion. Fortunately both casualties got good respawns and were back to us in short order, but now our tent position was compromised. We started making plans to strip and move it. As I was making another check of the bodies, I heard "friendly friendly" on ingame VoIP. I tell him come up, not realizing that it was the first bandit we had killed. My friend did recognize him though, and in the ensuing conversation it comes out that the first bandit had not fired on us. He claims he had tried to talk to us first but was on the wrong channel. The other player was some random "crazy guy" he had been running with since Electro. "That guy killed everyone we saw." It was an interesting "talk your way out" situation as I stood at ease with an AK, and my friend watched his back with a drawn pistol. We let him recover some stuff from his body, grab some food and drink from our tent and sent him on his way. The best part was when he asked "So are you guys just running around like a pack of Velociraptors?" No doubt they had not expected 15% of the server's player base to show up for immediate retribution.
An hour or two later we were down to five people online and were checking Gorka's barns for the possible vehicle spawn. Normally we are pretty cautious but had slacked off a bit and managed to pull a few zombies into the smallest barn. We were all in there with sidearms and three assault rifles, so it was no problem. The gunfire attracted a few more, and we dispatched those as well. A few more came; still no problem, but they kept coming. "What is going on?!" A never ending tide of undead kept flowing into our little stronghold which was starting to take on disturbing Alamo implications as our ammunition ran low and the floor became carpeted with bodies. "We need to do something. Anyone got smoke?" Someone threw one but did not get it far enough outside the building. "Ok, we have to get out of here and into one of the other buildings. Use it to break LOS." The horde thinned a bit, and three of the others bolted. I got trapped and kept firing. The others made some distracting noise outside, and the last of us fled. The escape plan worked, and we got the frak out of Dodge. All told we killed far fewer zeds than a single Left 4 Dead chapter, but this held FAR more tension. We completed our vehicle sweep and got back to a secondary base camp just as dusk fell on the server.

The SB.com group has done well. We have managed to secure a Motorcycle, ATV, shitty car, and a bus. The bus was freaking hilarious. Found by complete accident we spent an hour getting it up to our location.
The ATV was also found by sheer chance. I nabbed it and have it hidden between three trees in an out of the way location. It has no one valuable item, but its stocked with tons of medical supplies.

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Lost my AK-74 Kobra, when I put it in my backpack. It just disappeared I picked up a Lee Enfield for protection in Pusta's barn. One zed noticed me and got the bullet.
The effects of Enfield firing... well, I have never seen anything like this. Zeds started piling on. The entire town was pretty empty, but when i fired, they started crawling out of the woodwork. Literally. I shot about 6 zeds in a barn, ran out, saw about 30 going right at me, got back to the barn, shot a few of them and decided it's runnin' time. I planned on drawing them to the woods and finishing them off, but luckily no one followed me as I dashed to the treeline. NEVER will use an Enfield again.
Went back to Elektro, got up on the tower. On the last floor I met with a guy wielding an AK-74. And this time I didn't flinch - I unloaded 4 .45 rounds into him, since such encounters are kill or be killed. Im not proud of that, but at least I got an Ak-74 back and some additional supplies.

Yeah, the aforementioned M4A1 never came out of my backpack. I wasn't happy about that because I have six mags for one in my tent.
I have still not seen a vehicle, though I did hear one a few days ago.

Primed for a raid of NW airfield southern barracks
Overwatch on Stary Sobor military base with my fancy new DMR
Earlier today spotted these two corpses while three of us were checking out Novy Sobor
This is what a lack of noise discipline gets you
"Hey guys, I found a bus"
More overwatch as the group sorts themselves out
A pretty sunset caps off the day's adventures
Some more shots in the album. Unfortunately Imgur really degrades the quality on top of my only mid-high graphics settings.

Rekkon, we ought to get our teams together some time and raid NW Airfield.

I would be down for that. I will mention it to the group tonight and see what they think. We would need some travel time as we tend to hang out in the Gorka area specifically to avoid player concentrations. Perhaps schedule something for this weekend? I assume you would want to meet on your server?

I like seeing the screenshots, it really adds a dimension to reading this (and I'm enjoying reading people updating this - sounds like a great game.)
Aly, how many people are in the SB group?

We are at Prud lake and have a bus. The bus can carry 24 people. Yeah, to use the bus we would have to stick to our server.Rekkon wrote:I would be down for that. This weekend would be perfect. We have people on all day US time zone. Our group has Yanks, Brits, and an Aussie.

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Excellent, you could get to us without taking your bus through any towns. We could have up to 8-9 if everyone is online and at base camp, though a few are still rather new. All our players are US/Canada. Pacific, Central and Eastern time zones. I would offer some vehicle parts, but a glitched tent ate them all.Alyeska wrote:We are at Prud lake and have a bus. Day Z got DDoSed today. Further issues affecting tents and vehicles. Do not spawn until after they give the OK. One of our members got spawned in the wasteland.

Same here, but I guess my geographic location is just too far to play on their server. Ping is over 300 and I get the boot from Battle Eye. Guess I'll keep going solo until I find someone I can trust in this game. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Whoa, almost split my sides laughing at that.tim31 wrote:Oh man I want to run with you guys

Dan Hindes (@dhindes on Twitter) is organising a big Australian event this weekend. Hit him up for further info.
Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Tonight was a marathon session. Holy shit. We did a NW Airfield raid without encountering anyone. We found two crashed choppers side by side. That had a FN FAL ANVP S4 on one of them. And then we spent about 4 hours running a convoy through towns looting for vehicle gear and some occasional hordes. Running a three vehicle convoy is freaking fun.

What he fails to mention is that it was a practically empty server which I kept on getting ping kicked from. I got to enjoy an hour and a half of watching an empty field.Alyeska wrote:We did a NW Airfield raid without encountering anyone.
Tacticool
Riding in style...
... or not. (This was just a desync between Alyeska and I, on his end it was fine.)
We ended up heading to a fuel station near but the server reset, leaving us at the fuel station and our vehicles in the ether. Oh, and night.
Here we are warming up on the run back
With our vehicles back, we set out on a mission for fuel and vehicles parts
Lo and behold, two crashed choppers right next to each other
The FN FAL ANVP S4 (i.e. night vision scope) we found
The two group members covering our vehicle drop off while we checked out the choppers
Waiting for the car to catch up
More to come...
