Yeah, I've heard people talk about how much fun it was before the split. I wasn't around back then, so I've only had the 85 and the 122 myself. The former is fast firing enough, with enough pen/damage to be a real danger to anything short of another KV-1 (at T5). The 122 is ridiculously powerful, just horrible at reloading.

I'm still debating if I'm going for the KV-1S or T-150 for my next tank though...thankfully I still have 10k or so XP to go, so it will be a while till I need to decide.

EDIT: Also, the only other T5 tanks I've played are the T-34, T1 HT, and PzIII/IV...none of them can touch the KV in pure firepower (when you factor in the 122 mini-derp gun).

As it is, I had a few matches where I felt like this :banghead: with the thing, before I could upgrade.

EDIT:

Upgraded the thing is a blast though. The 85mm is a monster at T5, and a danger to unwary T6 tanks too. And my armor is good enough to bounce most anything UP to the 85...so when I'm top-tier I'm a lord of death to the little peons trying to run away.
Yeah, the KV-1 is a lot of fun once it's fully upgraded. I dumped my KV-1 after the KV was split into the KV-1 and KV-2 because it didn't have the derp gun or the 107mm gun, either of which I considered so essential to the KV's personality that I couldn't see the point of a KV without one of them. But later on, I went back and bought a KV-1 again because I heard good things about it despite the handicap of the (only) 85mm top gun, and it's still a very effective tank for its tier. It's still a good money-maker.

It was a monster before, though. The 107mm gun with 167mm penetration and 300 damage was just ridiculous for tier-5, and the 152mm derp gun was crazy too.

Man, I loved that derp gun, it made matches exciting. Nothing says "Don't miss, mutherfucker," like knowing you reload like a musket. Its still fun on the KV-2, but it feels like its been nerfed, I don't one-shot Shermans and such with it anymore.

So by setting the resolution as low as I can I've finally managed to get it running smooth. For the first time Bitey was getting hits on moving targets! And I'm only ten grand away from the BT-7.

Heh, don't want to get too used to leading targets, you'll be accused of aimbotting.

But then I've been accused of hax for shooting perfectly stationary targets before.

And it's always by people with clantags, who seem to assume that they'll be invincible in pub matches and get super sour if they die.

Oh yeah...that is annoying. Like being in a clan (when all you have to do is go buy a Lowe or something to get high enough in tier) makes you 'super speshul!!'

Especially annoying when you get horrible players who start screeching 'someone report that hacker!!!' just because you're doing well in a match. Oi vey...

I got the 57mm on it. Less damage but high accuracy and the rate of fire makes it a fun gun to use. If you're top on the list (which happens often with the KV-1), you're killing lesser tanks up the wahzoo

So does the game allow or count hits to the top of the turret?

Past a certain angle everything will automatically bounce shots, and as such the top of the turret is generally immune to fire. (Unless you have height on them, then you can laugh maniacally as you blow them to shit.)

Pay special attention to copulas and other sighting devices, they are usually good weakpoints if you can hit them.

Especially on the (you probably won't see it for awhile) Somua S-40. It has that nice big protrusion on top that makes SUCH a tempting target. I took one down below 40 hp with A SINGLE HIT with my KV's 85mm.

And the M3 Lee.

It's a persistent rumour that one day there will be multi-station support so that turret on the SAu-40 will actually be operational, as will the one on the M3 and the hull mounted 75mm on the B1. (which might make the Lee and the B1 not be the two most terrible tanks in the game)

True, the turret on the Lee is quite the tempting target. Especially since the thing is so darn tall. I'll admit that I would like to get the turret on the Lee, and the sponson on the B1 working. I'm already done with the Lee, but I haven't used the B1 (or the German B2) yet. Might go for the Frecnchie if they do allow multi-gun support.

They say the baby turret on the KV-4 could accommodate up to a 76mm gun, which would be utterly hilarious if it actually worked.

How are you guys doing that? Waiting for the red outline and a steady hand, or can you zoom the scope in?

I know I'm hitting but fucked if I know where on the tank I am hitting.

You can zoom your gun in. There is also sniper mode, which is (default) shift. Though sniper mode is just zooming in quicker...normally you use your mouse wheel to zoom in/out.

Also, if you get close enough, hits leave bullet holes on the enemy tank.

You're welcome. And this is what happens when they get rid of the tutorial...

EDIT: Though honestly, if you've been leading your targets, and getting hits WITHOUT zooming in...that shows some major skill right there. Now that you can zoom in...well I wouldn't want to be on the other team, that's for sure. :P

There is an in game chat channel on the north american server that is there most of the time just for Stardestroyer members. Just search "sdn" though every 5 days or so it disappears, and people will help answer questions if they are on or team up with you.

SDN{SgtMatt}? Is that it?

I also have a teamspeak server we can idle and hang out on, its dedicated and I use it for EVE, Minecraft and other stuff. Just PM me for the info and don't cause trouble for the server admin ;)

At the moment, yes. The name after 'SDN' will change depending on who updates it though. The channel auto-deletes every few days, and one of us has to restart it.

The best part is that I've never seen anyone in a clan worth a damn doesn't get pissy with people for getting good, they get furious with people for being inconceivably bad. Usually when someone on the other team plays well and screws someone good the response is more of a "whoops!" than anything else.

There's a very strong negative correlation between clan members talking crap to good players and their clan holding land.

I'm not so sure I'd call it fun, there were Issues with that. The big one was that about 80% of all Tier 5 heavy tank players would be in a KV, because it was so much more effective than its competitors, especially with the 107mm. The 152mm wasn't so bad in my opinion, because of the reload and inaccuracy.

The other tank trees didn't get a gun comparable to the 107mm until... hm. OK, the US has the 90mm on the M6 at Tier 6, but unless you count the weird conical gun, the Germans couldn't really match it for brute firepower until the long 88mm gun that only shows up at Tier 7. The Germans have a huge accuracy advantage by that time, and the US a moderate one, but it's still pretty extreme.

Personally, I think making the KV-2 a Tier 5 tank (in effect) did more to create the "Russian tanks are OP" belief than any other single thing the game designers did. Because everyone fought them in that thing, and everyone saw what a bad joke the idea of the KV-2 being 'balanced' with, say, a T1 Heavy was.

(xthetenth will probably now break in with a story about how he soloed four KV-107mm tanks with his T1 Heavy by creative use of the four-dimensional Möbius strip terrain on Ohgodno map. Because I just know he has such a story. Somehow :D )

Some accidental team damage is inevitable. I saw two people on my team having a spat this morning (T46 crashed into a TD, the TD shot him a few times in the ass, then the T46 just circled and outright killed the guy, who promptly moaned about it in chat).
