Of course, I lost 'em all when I traded it in for my Mod Starbridge. :)
Now I need to do a few Long United Delivery missions though, since my funds have been depeleted.
I haven't seen any of the ship-specific upgrades yet, though.
Well, that's how I upped to a Mod Starbridge.
Shadowhawk wrote:You can buy 'em at Rauther in the Rautheron system. I wasn't even in the Rebel Arc and I could buy the launcher and missiles at Rebel II.
Ahh, I thought you could probably buy them there, I just forgot about it.
Shadowhawk wrote:The guns were trying to lead the enemy on their own--they fire -way- off-axis in a vain attempt to intercept an enemy that's moving past you.
Ahhh, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
Shadowhawk wrote:I forgot just where I saw the illegal Ion Cannons being sold, but it's somewhere around Tichel. Check the fringes of Federation space.
Probably Kania or something.
Shadowhawk wrote:I just bought my Mod Starbridge in New Ireland. I got my Pirate Starbridge in Tichel, and could have purchased a Pirate Manticore if I had the cash.
I think the larger the bore on the railguns, the longer thet range. I found 200mm railguns deeper into Auroran space.
I suppose I'll eventually wind up there...

You should. When United Deliveries expands into Auroran space, you can make 500k credits in a single run, and it gives you nearly two months to do it (those runs usually stipulate that you cannot be scanned by Auroran ships, though).

Dalton wrote:Hellhound missiles REALLY help. Long-range, extremely powerful. Unfortunately, you have to have progressed somewhat along the Rebel arc, and the upgrades (and missiles) are, so far to me, available only at Rebel II in the Koria system (somewhat northeast of Nesre Primus).
You don't need to be in the Rebel arc, IIRC. You just have to look for them (and their launcher). Second-best missile available to humans (the Etheric Wake being even better, but takes a huge amount of space).
Remember that Manticore I mentioned? Took it down with Hellhounds and avoided those nasty ion cannons.
This is why I have four Stormfire turrets to knock down those missiles. I've taken on packs of missile-wielding gunboats this way (using whatever railguns I have to standoff).
What do you mean when you say they lead an enemy on their own? And where do you get the ion cannons? Those fuckers are real nasty on shields (I think they're ion cannons; I've run into Pirate Starbridges that've blown me apart in mere seconds with blue beams of some sort).
I'm trying to remember where you can get them, but they are quite nasty. My two Class D Pirate Starbridge escorts have a pair of them apiece.
EDIT: I just remembered. If you progress far enough along the Wild Geese arc, you have the choice of either continuing into either the Rebel or Auroran arcs. I chose Rebel, and found that Olaf's now my uncle and I have some pretty sweet new upgrades available at Viking, such as Olaf's sensor booster (600k and second only to Polaris sensor boosters) and all the pirate mod ships.
The sensor booster is available to non-Rebels, actually. I bought the Auroran, Federation and Rebel ones to clean up my sensor scope. And IIRC, certain mod ships require capture (which you can't do, alas) rather than purchase.

I can't use the Gate Network yet apparently. Do I need a capship?

Ah, so buying other boosts won't nullify your current ones? Cool.

Keep checking back at Sigma Shipyards. Eventually, two other missions will be offered. The second is a FUCKING BITCH, so hire some escorts.

Not as bad as a Leviathan with escorts doing cargo runs.

I've done all my missions so far without an escort, including two or three Sigma missions (I've got Hypergate access).

The hardest mission I've encountered so far is the United Deliveries - Auroran Space test run. You've got to jump through a half-dozen Auroran systems where -every- Auroran ship becomes hostile to you. It ain't easy taking off from Aurora itself when there are 6 hostile capital ships firing at you. The Horizontal Booster here is very handy (but I usually kept up my speed to get me out of firing range of masses of missiles and railguns before I jumped).

Afterburners are a lifesaver in those situations.

I've had a couple of insane missions too. In the Wild Geese arc, you have to jump to an uninhabited system, take out all the escorts and disable a pirate prison ship to rescue the prisoners. I forget how many times I tried that mission! Eventually the escorts I took managed to wipe out almost all of the ships and I barely managed to board the prison ship and transfer the prisoners before the two Pirate Enterprises could knock me out.

Then there was that fun mission across Auroran space, to Kont in the Kontik system. I had no idea how hard it would be grabbing a shipment of palladium and jumping through about fifteen systems without being scanned.
SirNitram wrote:Keep checking back at Sigma Shipyards. Eventually, two other missions will be offered. The second is a FUCKING BITCH, so hire some escorts.
Cool. I'm in so many arcs now though that I don't know what the hell is going on anymore :P

Brutal. I found out the hard way though that hiring several escort shuttles increases your cargo space but doesn't let you load cargo for those urgent delivery missions (60k on a one-way trip!). On the flip side, I lost only 4k.

The only time I've ever been scanned is when I had the Wraith Cannon (from a GLi-Tech-nia test) and was landed on a Polaran planet. I took off, one of the small ships scanned me, and a trio of them proceeded to rape me.

The Palladium mission was relatively easy (7 uninterrupted jumps makes most missions like that relatively easy).

I had a Javelin by that point, so I just rocketed in at max speed and got the goods. :D

Alas, on Mission 3 the Feds spotted me immediately coming out of Sol and I didn't realise it until I landed on Rebel II :(

Anyone know if Ion Cannons are Turrets or Fixed?

I believe they're omni-directional. For 25 tons, they sure as hell better be. :)

Become a Vell-os. Unfortunately, you don't get the Jav until after the registration cut-off(Dude isn't showing me how to make oen because I haven't registered).

Ion cannon don't count as turrets, but are omnidirectional anyways. Useful things, but I backed them up with various railguns.

I'm backing my Ion Cannon with a hail chaingun, PFC turret, 3 PFCs, a Radar Missile Launcher, and a Hellhound Missile Launcher (I'm in a Mod Starbridge with two Sigma mass additions and a reversible mass expansion (so I'm down to 5 tons cargo, but I don't care much about that anymore)). I eat through enemy ships pretty easily.

Is there any place where I can buy -legal- Ion Cannons? I've got the licenses, but a fed gunboat still busted me when it got close enough to scan.

I've already conquered half of the Auroran space with my fl33t of 7 Raven-class motherfuckers

EDIT: Right now I'm making 300k a day doing nothing... I feel like Bill Gates when taking a dump. Each single jump gives me a million :D Funny, that's the way I bought all those Ravens, just capturing a shitty "houseless" ship and trying to jump back into Polaroid space without the multi-jump... by the time I reached Mu'Hari I had another 5-6 millions or so.
