I'm sure you didn't think you did, but one still doesn't just threaten a sovereign nation's capital with destruction over one man, particularly when no other recourse has been attempted.

Alyrium, I'd suggest dropping any attempt to colonize the planet at this point. It doesn't matter whether the accusations are true or not; trying to take over the planet in this kind of diplomatic atmosphere would confirm them in the eyes of everyone else. If you just smash the pirates, set the planet up for self-rule, and let them go, it'll just make the Etern look stupid.

I will put the matter to a vote of the populace. I WILL win, seeing as my people freed them from slavery. And offers them full membership in a reasonably large well-defended nation.

A little sure of that, aren't you? What if they choose their own sovereignty instead of trading one set of masters for another?

You do realize the kind of spin that will be put on that, right? The Etern and possibly the Ousters will start panicking over how you launched a war of conquest and intimidated the populace into voting for you in a sham election. It doesn't matter if its true or not; its pretty clear by now that people will believe it, and that's what matters to whether they come and stomp you for it.

Slavery? Excuse me for being questionable here but how could they get to be a well off nation using SLAVERY? Slaves who could build Dreadnoughts and run the nation required to keep those things going over long periods of time would rebel, and then what would the pirates do? Shoot them? OH WAIT! You shoot them and then your ships don't work. Beat them? Accomplishes nothing.

What you have at most is a couple thousand to a couple million slaves who are kept around for menial labor, while the rest of the nation is actually a productive nation with a population that out numbers everyone else. You come in and try to 'Free' these people they'll fight you tooth and nail for every last scrap of land possible for THEIR independence. And with the examples of the Covenant worlds on their mind they know they have the upper hand. Face it Aly, you've got a tough fight here. Winnable? Sure, as long as no one who is tougher than you (and we all are, except for Tycho) comes and bankrolls them, but even without that you're still in for a tough fight.

Yeah, about that.....

Well, it looks like a second after I started teh "save the STGOD" thread, like 10 people came back and everything got going again. And this does conform to the rules we agreed on. No new fights and no active plotting against people who aren't here. So, uh.... I guess this is just one extremely active hiatus.

He was unarmed, drugged, incarcerated, and taken by surprise. Nobody would be on their A game in such a situation. And anyway Basil is a 10,000 year old vampire lord who might be considered as having had 35-40 levels in combat classes before he became immortal.
Intriguing how this works, isn't it?
Only if you read far too much into it.

*Shrug* D&D vampires are destroyed if they are beheaded. He'd still eat it from an AR magazine emptied into his head, as that would tend to utterly blast it apart. No bearing on the assassination of Karsus. I just felt like pointing that out.

It goes without saying that the Tortugan vessel sent to Eketrina was turned away.

Of course, the Ousters would never deal with pirates. Where I could prove it anyways.

Check my declaration, and previous IC posts. The Vampires used magic over the centuries to make very extensive modifications to themselves and their subjects. They were D&D vampires one hundred centuries ago, but nowadays they're an entirely different animal. They would be more like outsiders, the same monster type as Celestials and Demons--or like Monks become at 20th level.

I think the point is; if you intend to kill a powerful Vampire, come well equipped for the job. I suspect it would take over a dozen power-armored Blackeyes to kill even a mid-level Vampire like Alexander.

I'm thinking the easiest way to kill Basil for a poor, non-magical culture like mine *sniff* is to BDZ the planet he's on, if only I had the power to do it. Crap. So no, I really have no plans to go hunting him or any other vampires.

They're not that munchy. For all that he's a badass, someone like Casimir could get gunned down by soldiers with powerful enough weapons. The trick is getting them in a position to do so.

Monks at 20th level and outsiders don't go to gaseous form and make their unstoppable escape when they are dropped to 0 HP. They die. Thus, easier to kill, since they will actually die.

*Sigh* Rogue, give a vampire's powers to an Outsider type. If it makes you feel better, they're closer to Dracula than Strahd.
