Could you provide links for that, in comparison to Doom3, because as far as I know, Doom 3 is mostly interior stuff, and not alot of sun and external lighting.

If its for HL2, I might worry, but not CS.
Halflife2.net has pics and some in their forums.

Really though, there's nothing indicating that the D3 engine will have trouble with outdoor areas.

A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

That also goes for HL2, Far Cry, UT2K4 (onslaught on a 1ghz athlon with gf4mx, the agony) etc.

Well I just beat Doom 3. Interesting ending. They say there is only one survivor, but then again they were only searching the worst parts of Delta at the time so its possible they were limiting that search. I suspect they could have found other survivors around the base. There were a few people who found awfuly good hiding spots.

What happened to Beutruger doesn't surprise me all that much. It leaves things open for another game.

I'm guessing that Betruger was obviously possessed by Satan. Maybe he'll be back for a vengeance or something.

But Quake 4 is planned before that. :)

Finally played Doom 3, if only briefly. As soon as I was handed a pistol, I shot everyone in sight and laughed hysterically. Of course, the Hell invasion was a convenient cover for my murders. :)

It's even funnier later in the game when you meet survivors after you get the chainsaw.

I bought Doom 3 today. So far i kinda like it, i had to keep looking over my shoulder as i sat playing. The atmosphere was intense. My question is whats this shit with a plot. Doom 3 needs no plot just bullets and monsters to fire them at. The opening sequence screamed HALF LIFE at me. I'll play it to the end i'm sure but already i wonder if i'd replay the game.

Your COMPLAINING about it having a plot? Games aren't just about mindless shooting anymore. Though you can play through the game ignoring the plot if your THAT interested.

If games today need a plot so badly, why are games like Serious Sam or Painkiller so successful? They are simple twitch shooters, and that makes them so fun.

Seriously, I think story is very important- it's the reason why I like Starcraft and Homeworld (I actually think Starcraft is otherwise shitty).

I disagree on the very validity of the question "is story important?" There's no good answer because it's a bullshit question. It all depends on the game. For an adventure game, the story is all-important. For Half-life, it was all-important, but for a Doom game, it's just in the way. I was annoyed by the Half-life style intro sequence and the talkative civilians. I was thinking "This is Doom, dammit, now give me something to shoot!" So I shot the talkative civilians, and then I felt good :)

Did any of the original doom games have a plot? Hell no, and Doom is one of the best known games ever made. I don't know about you but with a FPS i want very little plot, lots of weapons and lots of killing. FPS'ers are stress relief. If i want a game i need to think about i'll play Homeworld or Command and Conquer.

It strikes me as very funny that a game that had a lot of immitators is now trying to copy the imitators. That said i'm enjoying the game, very freaky to play in a dark with the speakers up loud.

Doom 3 had plot, but it was still very much about killing the enemies and it had a decent selection of weapons to choose from.

I saw DOOM 3 on a computer at Best Buy last week, and it played smooth as hell. The computer was something I've never seen before. The "tower" was a box about the size of a 10 stack of DVDs, firewire ports, DVD/CD drives, for about 1.200. The sign said it had a ridiculous amout of hard drive space, something like 120GB. What the hell was that?

A LAN box. In other words, a computer minimized down to be great for taking to LANs.

Unfortunately, the amount of spec customization on them is limited, and swapping out parts is near-impossilbe.

A few years ago some companies started producing Small Form Factor (SFF) computers for the LAN party crowd and the trend caught on. There's usually room for a HD, an optical drive and sometimes an FDD, plus a bunch of easily-accessable ports. Many have at least one PCI and AGP slot.

They're becoming increasingly popular because they are so small, but can be noisy since they have to use small but powerful fans to cool themselves down. Many of them are not too hard to modify with whatever parts you want but some are difficult to work with.
