Hm, bollocks. I was considering doing up my Guard models to use as allies for my Marines like I did in 2nd edition.

Keevan, I would warn you against taking a purely infiltrate army like that. They seem like such a good idea at the time, and can work great against the odd noob, but be warned, a decent opponent and your likely to get pwnd.
For Conflict Manchester 2005 I took a gamble and made a purely infiltrate army of heavy weapon tac squads and a gribbly command squad. Out of 3 games, I lost reasonably badly in the first after missing first turn (Lost and the Damned, stupid combat drugs...) got pwnd in the second (Daemonhunters, with assasins and GKT's. You can guess the rest). I won the third easily, but I was playing a noob with bikes (lol) in his space wolf army (oh dear...).
If you really want to go infiltratey, give it a shot, but I'd advise against that second squad of scouts, or indeed any at all. Their ONLY purpose is in pinning enemy units, and half the time the units you need to pin have some no-pin rule anyway.
Have a look earlier on in the thread, 1st or 2nd page, for my new SM army of doom, and take what you want from that.

As per the may issue of white dwarf, the new russian inspired army will have elite snipers that look to be carring a cross between a lasrifle and a mosin nagant.....

Well, I got my last bunch of Gaunts done. I promised myself to get them done by the end of this weekend and so I have.
Here's the WIP shot after the basecoats:
Basecoating them took a little bit at a time over quite a few days longer than I would have liked, but all the subsequent detailing, washing, and highlighting went a lot more enjoyably than I last recalled, so I took the day to finish them up.
Here's the finished two broods:
Pretty much like the first bunch of Tyranids.

I like that color scheme. At first glance it seems a little bland and odd to look at it, but then the more one looks at it the more it makes sense. Good, practical colors suitable for arid and temperate environs alike; they remind me of my Guard.

I wanted to avoid something vibrant, but I pulled off enough visual contrast by making the brown dark enough and the yellow/tan light enough. Also the tongues are purple, so there's a bit of supplementary colors in the scheme.
I didn't take any close-ups of the new units, but that's the best example of them overall.
Tomorrow I can finally start on my Marines. I have several models of them already that mostly just need some primer touched up before I pick a specific mix of dark red and black for the basecoat.

I'm not aware if my brother can actually paint by hand that good, which is why I asked.Keevan_Colton wrote:Handpainting is fun...a whole load of bloody roses for high elf shields is a major pain in the arse...Spanky The Dolphin wrote:How'd you get the shoulder insignia?

It was a bit of both hand-painting and a template. I printed out some actual emblems at the appropriate size, cut it out, attached it to the shoulder temporarily with white glue, and painted around it. I improved the technique on the second and third Marines by simply tracing it with a pencil and then painting on the line.
I'm using the left kneecaps to indicate service record, pink being major operations while silver and gold being full campaigns and crusades. I figured my first guy was a trial-by-fire and so good enough reason to represent the next two as having passed their first battle. The right kneecaps will indicate honors and awards, so those will be pink or higher once I do some weapon specialists and Sergeants.
The unenjoyable thing about Genestealers is they don't have any houses to burn down & salt the ground they stood upon.

Not to be mean to Lazurus, but any American player should take Lazerus' advice with a grain of salt if you plan on playing tournaments. The American Metagame is completely different than the English metagame (closest you get in Europe to the American metagame is Finland IIRC). Thus some of his recommendations are somewhat skewed.
Over the next few days I will start posting an assload of army lists and random advice I have picked up from playing and chatting with tourny players.

Well, his army list advice is pretty sound, at least, thought I wouldn't know the difference between US and UK tournament playstyles and I'm probably not interested in actual tournaments anyhow.
Azazal's Pariahs look really nicely shaded, and that Monolith has some good use of internal lights.

Thank you. The lights were on clearance from a store's auto dept, a pain to wire up, but the end effect was worth it.Utsanomiko wrote: Azazal's Pariahs look really nicely shaded, and that Monolith has some good use of internal lights.
And to keep the ball rolling, the creation of Agamemnon, or my current avatar.
Early mock up, not very chappy and still very Lysander
Early steps
Home brew stormbolter, dropped from the final model
Little closer now
New helm and stombolter I decided to drop the shield after this, again too Lysander.
And now the painting, uggggg
Firsy layers of grey and black
Early green of the cloak
Starting in on the details
More detail fun
Almost there
Working on the arms
Just about done
Putting it all together

that's right B&C is back, one of my friends on the net since 2000 works for GW's BattleFleetGothic, and recommended the site, even though he is one of those heretics living in the eye of terror he is a cool person.
