The Krell fleet turned and reoriented itself down towards the place where machine activity had been confirmed on the planet. A rain of fire erupted from the fleet towards the dark planet, as every weapon the Combine owned came to bear on a single point. One Lance shot would create a giant crater. 38 Lances were fired, each one blasting deeper and deeper into the ground, as fusion missiles, railguns, and standard laserfire burned through. EMP missiles were also launched, sending wave after wave of heavy electromagnetic radiation through the tunnels exposed by the blasts. An hour later, the barrage stopped.
The Shi fleet gleefully joined the Krell in the bombardment, firing standard railgun rounds and energy weapons. The remaining weapons, mostly missiles remained silent, in case of something unexpected.

Elsewhere in the Combine, preliminary plans were made to divert a sufficiently large asteroid to smash the moon like a sledgehammer.

Veithan Space
Veitha III
Government Headquarters

The director sat down and a dozen eyes followed him, his solemn look noted and appreciated before he began to speak. The Veithan representatives listened closely, his words answered by president Duvol as they came. “The loss of Magdalena and her aides was a tragedy, and she will be missed by many in this room as well as our people. All that we can do at the moment is nurture her memory and make sure that it was not in vain.” The president paused, the words about the director’s name met with a nod. “Magdalena communicated with us about the same thing, shortly before…the incident.” The data crystals and the device were noted, the secretary of state arching a brow even as the director of intelligence smiled.

The following words which the director shared with the Veithans were met with some hesitation. The Veithans were aware of the capability which the Grand Empire possessed when it came to such matters. The Veithans themselves had something similar “soul stones” that were meant of capturing a psychic image of a mind, the “soul” if you will. With the proper cloning technologies or other alternatives, the mind of a slain Veithan could thus be used to fill a new host. Sadly, the technology was not fool proof and had its inherent limitations. As such, only military personnel were equipped with soul stones. The capability that the Ravenlock possessed was superior to their own in many ways, and everyone in the room knew it. It was the president that spoke once more. “The technology that has allowed you to return after death is impressive director. We have our own variant, but it has its own limitations. Sadly, Magdalena and her escorts did not utilize it.” He paused, unwilling to state the obvious. Earth had been until its attack the safest place in known space.

”I can assure you however director that my people did not know of your existence prior to our first meeting. As such, an infiltration of any kind would be impossible.” The president paused, watching the man opposite him as he picked up the second crystal and spoke once more. The clarification on the Ravenlock technology which allowed the visit to take place committed to memory. The Ravenlock consortium had excellent cloning abilities. The director’s final words about safe guards met with a smile as the president filled in what he thought was the logical conclusion. “So you are concerned about the possibility that my director of intelligence could be a soulcatcher clone of yourself?”

The director’s following words were met with silence and attention, his words heard without interruption before the president nodded, thoughts exchanged with various delegates before an answer was forth coming. “I can understand your situation director, it is a vexing problem. Your desire to follow the situation to some form of conclusion does not offer us insult. And in the interest of moving past this stage and into real negotiations about the possibilities about both our nations, I am inclined to allow you what you seek.” The president’s head turned, glancing towards his director of intelligence who only shrugged. His consent clearly indicated by his mannerisms alone. It was the new secretary of state that spoke, his thoughts on the matter openly exchanged.

”Director of Intelligence Jon Cameron is one of our most powerful telepaths Director, unless…” His words faded then, the look on the Director of the Ravenlock accompanied by a gentle telepathic assurance that he was indeed a telepath. The secretary blinked, paused and chuckled softly. He hesitated for only a moment before he apologized telepathically to the director of the Ravenlock consortium and settled to wait. The director of intelligence extended his hand, the machine which had been out of reach near the Ravenlock delegation telekinetically pulled towards him. His right hand moved, a finger pressed in a location that seemed to be custom made for a digit. The machine worked its magic, taking a sample and immediately moving to analyze the genetic signature. After the machine had finished and the director of intelligence’s DNA signature was coded, the machine was telekinetically returned to its original position. The director of the Ravenlock consortium touched his finger to another sampler, the DNA sampled and analyzed against the first sample. It took a bit of time for the DNA samples to be cross-referenced but the machine was looking for an obvious match, not an intensive search of both DNA samples. In the end, it beeped three times. The words “no match” blinked in a red light, while projected via a hologram above the device.

President Duvol watched for a moment, his eyes sliding from one director to the other. “Is that the answer that you required director?” He paused for a moment, considering what next step to take before continuing. “If you would not mind, I would like to keep the machine and its samples in order to put them through more intensive tests. I myself am quite curious as to how two men from separate areas of space could end up so physically similar and telepathically gifted. I assure you that I would destroy the device immediately afterwards, making sure that both genetic samples are destroyed.”

Halo
The 13 met under strict secrecy, in the heart of a small cruiser orbiting Halo.
"You are certain these...Overseers are the ones in our databank?" asked H'guin, Minister of Intelligence. Kaman'sor, head historian of Manifold, bobbed his tentacles gravely. "Indeed. The ones our masters warned us about, before we came to this galaxy. From further searching, it looks these Overseers are descendants of the extra-galactic variety which invaded our home galaxy." H'quin called up a map, showing the location of the probes monitoring the Overseer ships. "They dont look like they're hunting for us, thats for certain. " The others conversed silently. "According to our databanks, the Overseers hunt down organics. They wont be too picky about targets, so it will be best if we keep a low profile." The others nodded an agreement. "Shall we deploy a specimen of Project Archeron to gather more details?" The council voiced their affirmation.

"You made a powerful impression. I can state factually that a woman of your caliber is extremely rare, I have not seen one in a hundred years and more. As any conversation must be uncomfortable for you, I will be brief," Basil replied, "you undoubtedly have a long and painful recovery ahead of you. And even then, it may be impossible for you to be what you were before."

Elanie, as well as the doctors and nurses in the room, were well aware that what he had said was blunt to the point of rudeness. But something about the vampire made it impossible for them to be offended. With her senses and will dulled by drugs, the agent found herself almost in thrall of him.

He continued, "Like the planet Earth, you are a flower which has been forever damaged. But I can offer you another option, one that will not merely restore you, but also make you much more than you could have ever dreamed to be. You know of what I speak. Take the time to decide, confer with your superiors, do as you desire. But consider my offer. I may be found in the territory of Varna on the planet Temesvar, my personal demesne."

Joyous Gard

Pairs of ships, one destroyer and one frigate, formed up at the edge of the system and started jumping out for uninhabited systems to search for the machines. 15 patrols would go out today. More would follow in the coming days. Patrols were under orders not to engage, and jump out immediately if Overseer forces were sighted.

After the Blood Lord had left, the Speaker entered the chamber.
"Elanie su Madrighala. You have just received a most interesting offer. The Council has deliberated, already. Some said you know to much, that you would reveal our plans to the Blood King. OF course, your actualy knowledge of the spy network is fairly slim, but the simple fact you know of it's existence makes you.... dangerous."

"On the other hand, the prognosis does not look good. The doctors report that your internal bleeding, while it has subsided, will require invasive surgery to repair. You will never bear children, and you will need synthetic replacements for much of the bone in your left leg. Frankly, the chances of you surviving the operation are slim, and if we do not go through with it, you will no longer be able to accomplish the task you were Bound to do. You could be a useful liasion between us and the Realm- an alliance I think we will need if we are to stand up to the Arcanist's power bloc."

"Which is why, Elanie, that the Council has made a most singular decision. In light of your years of service to the Hajr, and the skill and dedication with which you have persued all tasks, we have decided to leave the choice up to you. The diplomatic vessel bound for Temesvar takes it's leave of Eketrina in three days. The doctors assure me that you can be kept in hibernation until then, and that the creche will suffice in keeping you alive until arrival. If not, we will begin the operations as soon as you like. Take your time- I understand it will be a rough choice."

Elanie nodded.

Veithan Empire Space
Veitha III, Capitol

“The Soulcatcher technology does not allow me to return after death, per say, but rather minimizes the loss of individual sentience that can result in death. In a very real sense, I did die on Terra, crushed beneath tons of rock, according to the autopsy. However, I remember nothing of the few days prior to the attack, as my last Soulcatcher copy was made just prior to the Grand Ball. I am a copy, and yet I am original, unique, in my own fashion. That’s one of the reasons we are concerned about improper clone activations,” The Director paused, nodding thanks to the President as he gave his permission to begin the test. His eyebrow rose slightly as the medical scanner was lifted into the air by forces unseen and carried to the Veithan Director of Intelligence, and then back again.

A look of mild relief played over his eyes as the result came up negative. The device was rather simple, designed to merely check one of two possible positive results, either an exact clone or twin, or a close blood relative. Anything else would result in no match detected, and this result was a most welcome one, though it raised almost as many questions as it answered. “Yes, thank you for indulging in my curiosity. Please do go ahead and proceed with your tests, I would be most interested to learn the results as well. If any definite links are found, I suspect that the bond between our people will grow greater.”

~Now then, on to the first few bits of business.~ The Director sent out a message to the group, lightly touching each of the Veithan’s minds with his own. As he did this, he reached into his suit and withdrew a small personal computer and glanced at it briefly ~I have a few proposals I would like to put on the table. First, numerous corporations would like to set up regional offices in Veithan space, and in return would like to offer your people the ability to purchase stock in the respective companies. There are some other matters involved, and what it essentially boils down to is a free trade agreement. I have prepared a detailed list of items we are willing to buy and sell in this datacrystal~ he removes a crystal from his personal computer and places it on the table.

~The second item I would like to bring up is that of tourism. The Consortium is virtually busting at the seams to get out and see the galaxy. Newscasts of Veithan space have made your territory a prime vacation spot in the eyes of many of our citizens. If you desire, we can accommodate Tourism into our borders as well, though unfortunately we cannot relax our customs division due to current events.~

~The third item is a request for aid in a rather critical matter. The longevity of our people and the benefits of the Soulcatcher system do not make for a perfect system, and we have the misfortune of being placed in a rather desolate area of space. Your geopolitical maps of Known Space were greatly appreciated, but now we would like to get more detailed information that you may be privy to. The Consortium is looking for terra-compatible planets to colonize, preferably ones with no currently existing populations, or very small ones. Quite simply, we need real estate. We’re beginning a deep space search away from known space even now, but so far our drones have not returned any worthwhile information, and with the threat of the Siliconoids looming overhead, many of those drones are being re-assigned to hunting down the machine threat.~

~Beyond those matters directly concerning our two nations, there are some items I would like to bring up concerning the galaxy at large, but first things first.~

A few days after leaving the Sol system the Atlantian fleet came to a stop at the designated point where they were to meet the shipment to New St. Paul. Because of their hasened departure they arrived before their origionally schedualed time, as a result they had to wait for a few hours before the transport with all the equiptment and personell arrived.

A short while after they transport arrived they had docked with Hectori's Carrier and began unloading the necicary equiptment for the construction of the dome and it's support systems. After which the passengers cabin opened up and a grey blur came flying out of the door and knocked Hectori to the deck

"What was that?" Karsus cried in alarm looking at a rather stunned Hectori who had a rather jovial atlantian clinging to him while chattering quickly in their language.

"This" said Hectori in a joyous voice as he looked up at Karsus. "This is my wife the finest progammer on Atlantis, the real question is why she is here." he paused for a second to listen to her excited speach "It seems that she was contracted by our government to create a program to translate English text to Atlantian. So of cource she was sent to me so I could provide the basis for translation."

After a the rest of the passengers, 6 total 5 builders and the new ambassador, had boarded the carrier the two ships seperated again and the carrier made another jump to New St. Paul. "We should be there inside a week" Hectori told Karsus he then walked off with his wife towards the computer core as they chatted happily about what had been happening lately.

-=GALAXY WIDE NEWS SOURCE OF CONTROVERSY=-

The recently formed newscast network Galaxy Wide News (GWN), broadcasting from United Protectorate space has been the center of much controversy since their initial broadcast several days ago. The fledging news company ran a story entitled “Occuipation (sic) Crimes in CoG alleged”, which attempted to rebut accusations of crimes and brutality, allegedly made by the newscast organizations VNN and USN, who have both reported on the subject of the CoG occupation. The major point of contention was the allegation that the governing body of the Ousters, the Hajr, was also accusing the occupation forces. In the article, GWN alleges that the Hajr condemned the occupation forces of the Covenant of God, a point that has been met with a slander/libel lawsuit by the Hajr leveled against GWN. The GCN investigative team looked into the matter, sifting through months of public broadcasts from the Ousters, finding no indication that the Hajr supported the position put forth by GWN.

Further investigation showed that the source of the GWN claim was Artus su Achtzehn, Subspeaker on the Council of the Hajr, who was killed in the Rape of Terra. Apparently, the Subspeaker expressed his personal displeasure concerning the CoG occupation during the first night of the Grand Ball to various high ranking members of the governments involved in the occupation efforts, including the Lord Protector of the United Protectorate.

Aside from the current Hajr lawsuit, GWN is generating criticism throughout the galaxy, and especially in Ravenlock space. Questions concerning the legitimacy of the slogan, “The Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth” have been raised, and numerous sources have criticized the organization for “publishing shoddy opinion pieces as real news.” Others have taken stronger stances against the newscast service, and the public datanets are filled with anti-GWN protests and heated debates, often referring to GWN as a propaganda machine for the Lord Protector and the United Protectorate as a whole. More reserved debaters speculate that if GWN is a puppet organization, what would the United Protectorates have to gain from such an obvious ploy to the Galaxy at large?

Clearly, GWN has a hard road ahead of it, between public disapproval and the Hajr lawsuit. Only time will tell if it will survive these first few turbulent months to become a widely viewed and accepted newscast. We here at GCN wish them the best of luck in their efforts to bring balanced reporting to the galaxy.

-=ARCANE EMPIRE SUES VNN=-

Following hot on the heels of the Hajr lawsuit against GWN, the Arcane Empire filed a similar lawsuit against VNN. The lawsuit specifically attacks reports by VNN that allege missing persons in Covenant of God worlds occupied by the Arcane Empire. VNN quickly responded by offering to supply the sources that supported the reports.

Meanwhile, the Veithan public has responded quite poorly to the Arcane Empire’s lawsuit. Demand for Arcane goods has plummeted in Veithan space, denying a substantial amount of revenue to the Arcane Empire. The loss of a trading partner could not have come at a worse time for the Arcane Empire, which is currently involved in costly large-scale planetary occupations, as well as having lost a significant number of ships in battle against the Krynor Empire’s fleet at roughly the same time as the Rape of Terra.

At this time, the Arcane Empire has not given a comment concerning their VNN lawsuit, so it is unknown if the Arcane Empire will choose to bring the charges to a court, or if the move was merely a strongarm tactic against VNN.

-=SEARCH FOR SILICONOID THREAT BEGINS=-

In spite of the current political unrest in the galaxy, powers all over known space have offered aid and support to Monacora. While the cradle of humanity recovers from the brutal Siliconoid attack, the search begins in earnest for the source of the attackers. Reports of skirmishes with the Siliconoids are beginning to trickle in throughout known space, but in numerous cases it is difficult to tell if the Siliconoids are truly at fault, or if pirates are taking advantage of this new threat as an excuse to strike at will.

Small transport and mining businesses are cautioned to stick to patrolled trade routes and protected mining zones for the duration of this crisis.

Monacoran Space
Sol System

The Veithan assistance to ravaged Earth was in full swing. Veithan hospital ships floated silently above the shattered world, providing services to the wounded and comfort to the dying. Those whose injuries were too severe to be effectively treated by the Veithan vessels were flown towards Veithan space and treated in state of the art facilities there. Already Veithan representatives had approached their Monacoran counterparts and assured them that any species which resided within Veithan worlds would be made available to them should their Earth siblings perish. Veithan gene banks, vast stores of genetic information of animal and plant life would be opened to the Monacoran nation, in order so that when the shattered home world was rebuilt it could be once more seeded with life. Veithan elements have also begun to make attempts to evacuate surviving animals in Earth whose habitats have been damaged or destroyed by the attacks. These attempts have met with some successes, although according to a senior Veithan official involved in this struggle said “there is still much to be done, in order to safeguard the future of many of the species found in Earth.”

It was in Earth itself that Monacoran representatives were discretely approached by Veithan diplomats; information exchanged which finally allowed the Monacoran government full access to the so called “Magdalena Hyrt” fund. The fund contained twenty billion muran, ten billion more than had been expected. The extra money had been provided by various Veithan based corporations, whose leadership and shareholders felt compelled to act. The money was offered to the Monacorans with only one stipulation, that the money be used for the reconstruction of Earth. It was during this exchange, that an item was given to the Veithan diplomats with the request that the information be delivered to VNN headquarters. The Veithan delegates did not hesitate in promising their Monacoran counterparts that their request would be carried out.

Grand Empire Space
Imperial Plaza

It took twenty two hours for the first draft of the document to be finalized to the satisfaction of the Veithan delegation. The document was still rough around the edges, but its heart and soul were in place. The language involved was adequate, a suitable union between two nations that were if not of the same mind, then certainly of the same heart. Veliam Munei smiled for a moment, his eyes sliding over the document once more as he took a deep breath and held it. He held in his hands the future of his people, an alliance that if all went well would change the path his nation would walk in a galaxy concerned with conflict and strife.

His eyes slid over the document once more, making sure that no detail had been overlooked before he was satisfied. It took less than five minutes for him to politely request an audience with a representative of the Grand Empire. The document had been crafted primarily by his people, but now it had to be forged in the presence of both nations. When the Grand Empire representatives arrived, they were all seated comfortably before the document was shown to their guests. The representatives of the Grand Empire seemed pleased by the language and tone chosen, but suggested a few minor changes which the Veithan delegation happily performed. In Munei`s estimation, the document would be ready for presentation to the Empress soon.

Monacora and Arcane Empire clash over reconstruction of Earth

Information recently given to VNN by Monacoran representatives in the form of a recording of an exchange between a Monacoran ranking officer and an Arcane diplomat shows the first signs at a possible rift between the nation of Monacora and the Arcane Empire. The clash of ideas apparently began when the Monacoran ranking officer discovered that the elements within the arcane empire were making maneuvers dealing with the reconstruction of Earth apparently without the consent or knowledge of the Monacorans. The entire recording shall be played in its entirety in order to set the stage for debate and place the exchanges between the Monacoran and Arcane representatives in perspective. Be advised, that a certain point in the video discretion is advised.

[Monacoran video recording is played in its entirety, a slight pause taking place before the killing of the arcane diplomat in order to insert a warning of graphic footage.]

The video that was just displayed is too long to analyze piece by piece in this segment of VNN. However, there are certain points that must be touched upon in order to properly understand the situation which tragically led to the death of the arcane diplomat at the hands of Monacoran security. One of our analysts had this to say. “The fundamental dispute between the monacoran officer and the arcane diplomat was the role that the arcane empire was to play in the reconstruction of earth. It was clear that the arcane empire whether willingly or accidentally went over the heads of the monacorans in his attempt to assist in the clean up of Earth with assistance from the Atlantean government. Taking recent history into account, including the incident in the Sol system between arcane forces and those of the floaters it is not surprising, that the monacoran government felt irritation at the arcane actions. The situation was destabilized further, when the arcane representative threatened to end his government’s assistance to the reconstruction of earth, even as he insulted the monacoran officer! In my eyes, the behavior of the arcane diplomat was inexcusable in a time where the monacoran star nation is suffering beneath an attack of rampant aggression by an unknown power.”

”It is then, when the arcane diplomat after exhausting his poisoned words against the monacoran officer vanishes that the tragedy which would finalize when the life of the arcane diplomat was taken would take place. As you can see here…” [A segment of the video is played, zooming in on the exchange between the arcane diplomat and the monacoran officer. The video spends a great deal of time focused on the face of the mage as he angrily spoke to the monacoran officer. A handful of seconds later, the arcane diplomat vanishes from sight; the monacoran officer looking about the room for a handful of seconds before shrugging and returning to his duties.] “As you can plainly ascertain from the video, the monacoran officer has no reason to believe that the arcane diplomat has remained in the room and goes back to his duties a few seconds after the arcane diplomat vanishes from sight. When the arcane diplomat reappeared minutes later, the security apparatus of the monacoran nation kicked into action. [Another segment of the video is played; the video zoomed in on the facial expression of the mage as he reappeared into view. His eyes narrowed beneath irritation at the fact that his spell’s duration had worn off.] Considering that Earth itself was ravaged beneath a surprise attack, it is not surprising that the monacoran forces reacted so forcefully and quickly to the sudden appearance of an intruder within the office of a high ranking officer. One of our legal experts after being shown the video did not hesitate in calling it “a regrettable, but justifiable homicide.”

The situation which led to the unfortunate loss of the arcane diplomat was in the eyes of many within the empire both unfortunate and preventable. The opinions of various experts in intergalactic relations were mixed, some believing that this is just another sign that the arcane empire is growing even more belligerent beneath the comfort and protection which its membership upon its alliance of nations affords it. Others experts believe that the entire situation may have been orchestrated by the arcane empire in order to find a way to avoid offering financial aid to the battered planet of Earth. It is widely believed by many that the arcane economy is suffering beneath a lack of demand for its goods outside of the member states of its own alliance, and it is widely believed that the arcane navy suffered significant damage as it fought against the forces of the Krynor. These points, when taken together with the building of the arcane eight fleet, a massive force of sixty escorts, sixteen cruisers and seven super capital ships as well as present day naval expansion and rebuilding efforts all suggest that the arcane economy is less than healthy. When an arcane representative was approached to make a comment about these allegations, his only words were “no comment.”

In a surprising development, the arcane empire contacted VNN yesterday and one of its couriers delivered to us some information which pertains directly to the loss of the arcane diplomat. The arcane empire maintains that its diplomat had no hostile intention towards the monacoran officer in the video and as such, the attack upon its representative was both unjustified and unnecessary. In order to support their claim, they have made available to us what they call “a thought transcript.” In essence, the arcane empire apparently monitors the thoughts of each one of its diplomats and copies down their every thought in order to maintain detailed records of such activities. Several experts in interstellar law were quick to point out that “information which is presented in such a fashion is at best considered hearsay, since there is no way to verify the validity of its contents. Furthermore, even if we are to assume that the information found in the arcane thought transcript is one hundred percent accurate, it still does not change the fact that it is a collection of thoughts. As such, it would have been impossible for the monacoran officer to know that the arcane diplomat did not wish him harm. All the monacoran officer had to go on was the sudden appearance of an intruder in his private office, and react accordingly.” The information in the thought transcript made available to us does indeed suggest that the arcane diplomat did not wish harm upon the monacoran officer. Nonetheless, as previously stated the officer would have had no way of knowing this. The thought transcript does however provide corroboration to the monacoran video, assuring its authenticity.

The death of the arcane diplomat was an avoidable tragedy, and we can only hope that it will not be repeated. Nonetheless, Veithan experts have expressed confidence that the monacoran officer acted in a justified manner. Farcus Yuela, a fifty year veteran of Veithan courts was quoted as saying the following when presented with the scenario. “With the so called rape of terra firmly in the minds of the monacoran people and officers, I am not at all surprised that something like this happened. The loss of the arcane diplomat is a regrettable tragedy, but it should be expected that stunts like this are dangerous in an atmosphere like the one that surrounds Earth at this time. The monacorans have lost billions of lives to an unforeseen attack, the appearance of anyone or anything in an officers quarters is sure to attract a great deal of attention. As far as I am concerned, the arcane diplomat had a lapse of judgment and regrettably, he paid for this with his life.”

Gladsheim Prime

"Ambassador," the Empress said, "as the document nears its completion, I would like to, well, "show the flag" as they say, and send the Crown Prince on a visit to Veithan, if it was possible. "

***

Deep inside of Gladsheim Prime's atmosphere, a giant lumbered to life. The new Battle Carrier Norn slowly moved out of its cradle, and began to climb for orbit, accompanied by scores of fighters and atmospheric navy craft.

To: Planetary governments of Sparta 5 and Sparta 6
From: Adar Krell, Krell Combine

Greetings, friends. I am communicating with you today to offer you aid in these troubled times. After the dissolution of the Krynor Empire, I know how uncertain things must be in your system. Ships from many different nations are coming and going, empires are claiming planets in your system as their own, and the pride of your worlds is being ground down under the boot of imperialism. I know how much you wish to prevent these things from happening to your own worlds. That is why I am offering you status as a Client World to the Combine.

You many have heard rumors of the Combine, and allow me now to seperate fact from fiction. We are a military, mercenary organization with no imperialist tendencies. We do not start wars, nor do we ally with powers that start wars. We simply offer our services should a war be unavoidable. However, above all else, our first duty is to our Client Worlds. These are worlds who recognize that it would be impossible to stay independent and safe in these troubled times, and so protect themselves by becoming part of the Combine. We do not, as some have said, replace the governments of our client worlds. We merely offer military service to those worlds to keep their independence alive.

Should you accept this offer, very little will change on your world. Your governments will still function as they always have. The only imposition we would place on you is a fee to cover our military expenses, as well as help in keeping our navy strong. We have no army, and our navy does not conscript. Unless your citizens willingly join the Combine Navy, they will be left in peace for the rest of their lives, protected by the shield of the well-respected Combine fleets.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you give this offer due consideration.
_____________________________________________________________

On both Sparta 5 and Sparta 6, the Krell propaganda machine had been at work. Ever since the fall of the Krynor Empire, agents planted on those worlds had been eagerly promoting the advantages to Combine rule. Although it was still a debated issue, most people were in favor of joining the Combine. When the official offer to join up arrived at the governmental offices of the two planets, the supporters of the Combine lobbied eagerly, petitioning the government to accept. Those who opposed the Krell Contract were outnumbered. And besides, the Monacoran troops patrolling the streets made it perfectly clear that, despite the way the invitation was phrased, this was no choice.

Sparta 6 ratified the Combine contract within days of its offer. On Sparta 5, the opposition groups held strong until one of its key leaders vanished. Soon, both of the worlds were permanent clients of the Krell Combine.

ATTN: Galaxy Wide News

Our clients, the Hajr, forerunners of the Diaspora, legitimate holders of the Hudson Sector, the Jormungandr Sphere, and the Edean System, have levelled a suit of slander/libel against your organization. The court date has been set one month from now. Should you be interested in a settlement, contact us or our clients, who are willing to neegotiate. Our current offer is simple: Publically broadcast an apology and retract the allegedly incorrect statements, and pay 1 million Combine Credits unto the Hajr to cover our costs. We do not need to tell you that evidence supports our position, and we are confident we will succeed should we take the matter before a court.

We await your reply eagerly.

Halo
The R'hlloran fleet, which had just gotten home recently (in the eyes of R'hllorans, in any case) were already making ready to leave once again. Surface teleporters were busy sending supplies and new equipment up towards the ships, and repair drones were just finishing their rounds on every ship from a fighter to a cruiser. Damage was repaired, missiles re-loaded, and shield generators warmed up. Brand new command AIs were loading into their respective ships, getting the feel of the systems and capabilties of the vessels, and chatting idly with other AIs. The little information on Overseer ships gathered from probes were given to each and every ship. While the fleet wouldnt launch unless the Overseers were shown to be a grave threat to R'hlloran life, it never hurt to be ready.

The Prince stood in front of the press corps. in the Palace.
"We would like to make our official stance on the Arcane Ambassador and the Arcane Empire. We, in the interests of the coalition and of crushing the siliconoid threat, are however willing to forgive the Arcane Empire if their leaders would publically, openly, and totally apologize for their Ambassador's actions. This does not mean that we will forget his action, but that we will only forgive them. I'll take a brief Q&A session if you have any questions, no limits besides civillity."

Earth
A single R'hlloran scout drone exited FTL and entered earth orbit, unarmed, and broadcasting a request to land.

The Drone was given permission to land in a secondary port, checked over in excruciating detail, and then sent on his way to finish his trip.

The drone continued on its way to the palace, and landed just outside the crowd. A large hologram of a R'hlloran appeared several feet away, and waited for a responce from the Prince.

"Not a question, Prince, but a statement. The R'hlloran Free-spacer Confederacy will be happy to assist in any way with the Overseer threat, and the reconstruction of Earth. We have a large supply of excess resources which can be applied to either."

Temesvar
Realm of the Blood King

In the skies of Temesvar, a string of pearls glowed- Ouster transports, a convoy loaded with raw materials, tools and shipbuilding components. Tugs hauled loads of iridium armor plating, massive containers of hydrogen reactor fuel, and electronics, bringing the first shipment of supplies into storage bays and docks overseen by Dhampir supervisors. On the world below, a single Ouster lander situated itself outside the capital, and a group of the pale outsiders disembarked, presenting themselves to the Blood King's court. Already, the sounds of industry could be heard.

On the planet below, it was night in the demesne ruled by Basil the Red-Handed. The Blood Lord himself sat in one of his staterooms, examining reports- the bane of any leader.

The door opened.

He looked up from his work. "Ah. Elanie. I was.... expecting you."
