Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Saw a vehicle for the first time!! Had hit the supermarket at Pustoshka and was loaded with goods(including an ALICE), and an 74 with two mags doesn't hurt either. But I'm lacking a sidearm and carrying at least three mags each for Glock, Makarov, and 1911. I'm keen to free up some of that space so I've been scouting for a pistol. I'm in a shed next to the highway between Pustoshka and Vybor when I hear a car coming down the road. It pulls up right outside the gate and I can hear two guys with Aussie accents talking and laughing. They get out of the car, shoot a zombie, and I'm thinking they're going to look in the shed and I can either a.) call out friendly, or b.) try take them both and jack the car. But before I make the call, they get back in the car and drive on south.

Im currently in the castle to the NE of the NW airfield. Broke my leg when I fell of the stairs and I have no morphine. I really doubt that I will be crawling all the way back to the coast. Any help would be welcome, otherwise it's respawn for me.

If you can get away from the castle, we might be able to rescue you this afternoon. Rekkon and I will both be in the neighborhood this afternoon with friends.Tolya wrote:Im currently in the castle to the NE of the NW airfield. Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Have had a shitty evening of this game. First, was in the tower of the fire station at NW airfield after not finding anything, anywhere. Was tabbing in and out for a steam chat with Ando; when I went back in I was dead. They must have snuck up quietly or spawned in there.
Next, I spawn near the supermarket in Cherno. Awesome. In five minutes I'm out the back dock and a survivor with a pistol is facing me.
"Friendly!" I say.
"You sure?" a doubtful Aussie accent replies.
I explain what's just happened and he sympathetically invites me in, shows me to a pistol and some other stuff he can't carry. Excellent! We discuss plans when another survivor comes running in bleeding and shuts the door behind us. We offer him aid but he ignores us. He bandages himself and eats as we continue our conversation, and twenty seconds later the newcomer pulls an M9SD and shoots us both dead.
So I spawn near Elektro this time, to the east of the docks. I gather up a good round of loot from the industrial area, though no weapons. I quietly proceed to the train station where there is plenty of ammo, but have to flee when I somehow manage to toss a flare by accident in the fading light. I intend to go to the fire station and then the supermarket, but bypass the former when I spot a sniper on the roof. I get some good loot in the supermarket; crossbow and five bolts, revolver and five loads, and best of all, an ALICE pack which gets filled with food and soda. I'm crouch walking up the hill to get out of town and head north when I hear shots and hit the deck. There's a sniper on the roof the the power station's firehouse. He hasn't seen me, but he's looking all around. I take a shot at him but the crossbow doesn't have the range, so I keep crawling up the hill. I'm nearing a stand of houses and a zombie appears. I get up to a crouch to evade... And get shot. Fuck you, 'Vinyl'.
So I respawn again just east of Elektro. I run around the town and straight for the goddamn power station on a suicide mission. I get there, go straight to the roof, but no one's there. Climbing back down, people are flashing lights around on the second story roof. They approach me with axes. "I've got nothing, just spawned!" I stage whisper. One of them hits me with an axe and YOU ARE DEAD.
I respawn AGAIN just east of Elektro. Head in an arc to the supermarket. I'm getting what I can and getting the fuck out. There are two guys in there talking and I figure I have nothing to lose so I announce my intentions and though startled, they are amused and allow me to pick up some items. We all then move to the school across the road and that's when one of them is shot and killed, I'm shot and unconscious, then the second is fatally wounded as he calls out "friendly!" The assailant starts saying "sorry, sorry" in earnest, and I come out of my stupor to bandage and medicate. I wander upstairs and tell the apologetic assailant that I'm okay. He turns around and shoots me three times. What a fuckwit.
Fuck this noise, I'm going to bed.

I do it regularly. My M4SC CCO was, ahem, "left behind" by someone trying to do it right in fron of me. That should cover all possible outcomes.tim31 wrote:Solo raid against NW airfield... Good, bad, or ugly?
But seriously, under most circumstances, it's easier and safer to go alone. You just have to be extra careful about snipers.

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Our brand new Starter Camp was already found and raided. All of our AK-74 ammo was taken, but not the AK-74. The FN-FAL with Night Vision was taken with ALL magazines. The Glock-17 and an Alice pack was taken. In return we were left with a double barreled shotgun and a patrol pack.
The vehicles were left untouched. The multiple AKMs and all their magazines were left untouched.
Looks like one or two survivors managed to blunder into our camp. We thought it was perfectly located to avoid being found. Its been down for less than 24 hours. We know it wasn't cheaters or the vehicles would have disappeared. So dumb luck it was found already. Thats not a big deal. The FN-FAL wasn't hugely used because without NVGs, its kinda hard. And we are going to keep the starter camp stocked with basic supplies. Gonna try and keep several Alice packs, revolvers, 1911s, and AKMs in the camp for freshly spawned people in our group.

F***. After surviving 2+ weeks, three ambushes, hundreds of zombies and a NW airfield raid my character was killed today by some a-hole issuing a global kill command in the server. Everyone just dropped dead. Time to play exclusively on servers controlled by people I know I guess.

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
Had a much better evening than yesterday. Started out in Elektro, hit the supermarket and apartment next door and kitted myself with an ALICE, SMLE, and a Makarov. Had no particular destination but 'north'. Took in sights like Zub, dared to go shopping in Stary, where the Enfield was dropped for an AKM and five mags, the Makarov swapped out for an M9. Made my way to Vybor then inevitably hit the airfield as darkness fell. Barracks at the southern end... Agro'd and wound up killing about twenty of the horde before making a break. Did all the hangers, nothing. Was skirting the northeast side of the field through the woods when I came across an ATV. It wasn't well concealed, only just in the treeline. I hopped on and rode down to Grishino only to discover the service station lacks the big tanks. Damn. Started heading for Vybor overland, only to run out of fuel. No way I was giving this up. I ran three kilometres to Vybor and filled a jerry can, then ran back. Had to kill more zeds in each direction. En route back, I found a crashed chopper, but it was glitched with a frozen minigun firing animation and yielded no loot. I returned to my ATV, rode to Vybor for another top up and high tailed it. Saved the quad, here's hoping it's still there next time I'm in that server!!!

Crashed choppers have the minigun muzzle flame. Thats known. Choppers don't carry loot, the loot is found in a radius around the chopper.tim31 wrote:Had a much better evening than yesterday. And I just got killed by a script hacker. A sniper came up behind me and shot at my friends. Then he tried to kill me. I blew the fucker away. Then 30 seconds later half a dozen JDAMs fall out of the sky and I died.
I had and lost....

Night Vision Goggles
GPS
Ghillie Suit
I'm OK with having to get my gear back. I am not cool with being killed by a petulant hacker that cheats when he gets killed.

Tolya, we got you a DMR. Today was an incredible day for sniper rifles, even with my shitty luck. We encounters 4 sniper rifles.
3 DMRs and 1 M107
Oh, and we found a few guns at Stary.

Does 'emergence of social order' mean 'features'? There's already enough people for all kinds of things; there are simply no tools to allow it to happen. Better hope there's a clear roadmap to drive development.madd0ct0r wrote:how many days and people until the emergence of social order?
Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
I mean it took about a week or so for larger groups to start forming up for mutual protection, although these groups seem to be mostly people who already knew (and trusted) each other outside the game.
I guess stuff like long lasting forts or even vehicles - things that require more then one person to operate might tip the game balance back against the 'shoot first' current set up

Re: Day Z, the post apocolyptic zombie survival game
You say 'groups forming up for mutual protection' like its a 'social order', and not just how people play games. The questions you should be asking include what features or player tools does the game have to encourage, support and reward that kind of play? Do the developers understand how people are playing and how to foster it? Does anyone involved have a clear vision?
Cause it looks to me like a primitive mod has well and truly driven beyond its original capacities. Even putting aside the asinine loot spawning (which has a major impact in how the game is played, and why people behave the way they do) there are pretty elementary concepts from MMOs 10 years old the game just doesn't have for one reason or another. All the terrifying school camp screencaps in the world won't solve anything. But they are hilarious and I hope people keep posting them.
Seriously, things like people being concerned by 'shoot first' 'problems' make it sound like nobody has played a multiplayer game before. No need to reinvent the wheel when the solutions already exist - all that remains is whether or not its worth fixing the game that exists, or simply wait for the superior copycats that are bound to appear.
