For the record, while sidewall gravetic shields are certainly an option, I should point out that grav-lances and penaids for railgun shells are ALSO options.

I/we know. But I would figure that it could at least give us one battle in which we could crush the enemy, and then work on destroying his production facilities that we have not found.

Fair enough, be retrofitting a vessel with sidewalls will not be easy- it will be costly, time-consuming, and will put ships out of action while they undergo major reconstruction.

Wait wait wait. So railguns really eat shields that easily? Look at my OOB. :P

The only computers in the fleet with the power to navigate back are Primary and Master Programmers; if you find one of those online and functional, expect a horde of Constructs to be holed up defending it.

And I don't like this trend of 'oh we'll make something that nullifies weapon type X'. I'm just going on the record of saying that. That got real old, real fast back in the ASVS STGOD.

No more than any other massive, spinal-mount weapon. I don't expect a spinal-mount railgun would be particularly more powerful than one of my spinal mount Wave Motion Cannon (though of course the Railgun has longer range and the WM cannon is a FTL propagation attack.) This is merely a way of countering the source of most of their heavy firepower.

Nuts... So much for the salvage idea. But wait...

What if their damaged? Is it possible to find a screwed up one with enough data to help narrow down the area of orgin?

I'm not asking for a perfect map, just something along the lines of it's around "X" part of the galaxy.

It doesn't nullify it, it just lessens the damage of it. It's an old thing in the SD.Net STGOD, and the other powers who were around then would know of it. I'm banking on the fact that because you haven't been around in the Sol area long enough to do anything besides a sneak attack that destroys a planet, we'll get the upper hand once. And that's it.

Finding the point of origin is probably much easier; but the Overseer spent literally years in transit from there to here, and that data is badly out of date. It'll lead to a world that's an empty fortress, and no Overseer. The Big O isn't going to allow the coordinates for it's new home to be even remotely capturable in it's current state of weakness; it's obsessive about it's own safety!

So the fleet had no idea where it's commander and god was at the moment?

Actually, it stops sub-C kinetics cold- unless he uses penaids or replaces his railguns with particle beams, lasers, or other C or near-C weaponry.

The Master Programmers did, but I think it's safe to say they died with their Dreadnoughts and Battleships.

I'm not sure I have the military forces to survive more than one battle..

No, you don't. However, I find it cheap that everyone is suddenly going to be able to ignore ninety percent of my anti-capital firepower. Put it like this: Would people here raise a fuss if the Overseer implemented a Trapdoor system, which shunted enemy weapons fire into Hyperspace?

I don't see this working. Space is three dimensional, and having a wall of ships act as "cover" for the rest of a fleet is not going to work, while having the entire fleet retrofitted would take too long...

Plus, I'm personally against "invul" techs.

Agreed, they would esentially neuter my fleet if you decided to attack me.

Not really, penaids are common enough technology you could buy them and slap em on the railgun shells.

Alyrium, the idea of using reactive armor against c-fractional solid projectiles is completely ridiculous. Modern reactive armor disrupts directed explosives, but can do nothing to stop a sabot.
