Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
My VERY FIRST Steel Wall medal was in my Stuart. So they can bounce stuff...occasionally...sometimes...if you're REALLY lucky.

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Anything with a higher than 70% angle of impact after normalisation automatically bounces. At 5cm you won't be overmatching a Stuart on most sides (maybe at the rear, don't recall their armour values), so you'll still be susceptible to the odd bounce if you hit at an unlucky angle.PainRack wrote:I don't know whether or not to be sick........
I got into a pissing match with Stuart, a Tier 3 light tank with my PzJg 1 Tank destroyer. My 5cm AP round actually BOUNCED OFF! WTF?????

A friend of mine bounced two 128s in a row off a Priest.PainRack wrote:I don't know whether or not to be sick........

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
The PzJg 50mm has an average penetration of 67mm, the M3 Stuart has 38mm of armor on the front and 25mm on the sides. At a bad angle, that can easily bounce.PainRack wrote:I don't know whether or not to be sick........

I just watched a guy in a Pz35 take out 8 tanks and almost get us a victory, but he was clobbered in the side by a BT

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
I recently went into the realm of SPGs.
I fucking love arty. Love it. Love it so much I'd give up atheism if there was even a hint of an artillery god. Of course, that is until it got placed on the other team and I killed it out of principle.
But yeah, I feel like I'm a sort of uber sniper when I play arty.
Then some guy gets up close. One time a T18 tried to kill me. I did what most tanks do to me, I rammed his side and then shot him. Boom boom.

Haven't touched arty myself. Too busy with the mainline tanks, which is where I'm good (I can't even use TD's...). Incidentally, if you want to platoon at something other than T2, then arty is good since you could be as low as Tier 3 and I could still use my bigger tanks.

The PzIII is easily the best thing since sliced bread - it goes faster than any light tank I've got access too, carries a cannon that can damage heavies, and was apparently designed for the express purpose of slicing enemy rear areas apart. I just got six kills in one match, three artillery pieces, an American medium of some sort on guard duty, and a pair of T-46s I ran into on the way.

I don't know how the heck I managed it, but I bounced a shell from a Tier 8 tank in my VK. And it wasn't to one of the 'always bounces' spots either...it was direct to my lower glacius. I have no bloody idea how I pulled that off...
EDIT: It was a KV-5 before anyone asks.

Hilariously, I basically rammed one of those up against a wall and violated him in an AMX-38 earlier today. Every shot he made bounced, I just kept damaging him by shooting his turret.Esquire wrote:The PzIII is easily the best thing since sliced bread - it goes faster than any light tank I've got access too, carries a cannon that can damage heavies, and was apparently designed for the express purpose of slicing enemy rear areas apart. Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
I hate to rain on your parade, but the KV-5 is well-known to have an incredibly weak gun for tier-8. It's a premium tank, and because premium tanks aren't earned, they always handicap them in some way. In the case of the American T34, it has a huge gun but its armour is soft. In the case of the KV-5, its armour is indomitable (apart from the R2D2), but its gun is pitiful for its tier. It's got the exact same gun as the T-150 and KV-2: the 107mm with 167mm penetration and 300hp damage. In other words, it's a tier-8 tank with a tier-6 gun.Skywalker_T-65 wrote:I don't know how the heck I managed it, but I bounced a shell from a Tier 8 tank in my VK. The purpose of the KV-5 is to soak up damage, so it's good for anchoring a flank as long as it has backup. Its gun will bounce off enemy tanks all the time unless the driver uses gold ammo. Even with gold ammo its penetration only goes up to 219mm, whereas standard ammo on an IS-3 or Tiger-II has 225mm penetration. So a KV-5 driver has to use gold ammo in order to get close to the typical penetration of a tier-8 tank gun.

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Higher-tier arty is hilarious. I can consistently one-shot Ferdinands from the front with my SU-14. It's amusing because Ferdinand drivers tend to act as if they're invincible from the front, often staying stationary and exposed for long periods of time. I've waited through the SU-14's agonizingly slow reload time and killed at least as dozen Ferdinands that I couldn't even see, just because I guessed they would still be in the exact same spot they were when last spotted.Imperial528 wrote:I recently went into the realm of SPGs.

Eh, I was just surprised it bounced at all. It was just a WTF moment really...until I realized it was a KV-5. Still worth mentioning just for the value of bouncing a T8 tank, regardless of which one it was.
Also...I find it hilarious that the 'Medium' 3601 has slightly more armor and hit-points than the 'Heavy' T-150.

There several things the KV-5 is good at. Fighting tanks in its own weight class is not one of them. I like to run mine like a protection spec paladin in WoW, keeping the enemy focused on me while my (usually) better armed teammates gank them from the sides and rear. Every hit I take is one my ally in a Lorraine 40t (for example) doesn't have to take on the cardboard he calls armor.
Also, I'm pretty shameless about bullying smaller tanks, it could (somehow) be a LOLTracktor, I don't give a damn, I'll shoot. "May god have mercy, for I shall not," and all that.

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Technically speaking I'm not in the same weight class as a KV-5...not even the same tier really. Though I still maintain that the 3601 is more of a 'fast' heavy than a medium. Especially when it has slightly more armor/hp than the same tier T-150...which IS a heavy.
And I have no problem with ganging up on smaller tanks. Less XP for the kill, but its much safer than going after the Tiger or IS in the other part of the map.

They plan on making the 3601 a heavy whenever they get around to revising the German tech tree. Who knows when they'll get around to that though.Skywalker_T-65 wrote:Technically speaking I'm not in the same weight class as a KV-5...not even the same tier really. Good thing I'll have moved on to the Tiger by then. I get bad enough MM occasionally as is...I can't imagine having a heavies MM...

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Well 8.1 is going to be the initial British tech tree, and they'll probably add TDs and SPGs after that, so I expect about 8.4 or so. I hear there's going to be a second line of German and Soviet TDs added at some point too.

Eh? Mediums and heavies get the same MM with the exception of tier 3.Skywalker_T-65 wrote:Good thing I'll have moved on to the Tiger by then. I get bad enough MM occasionally as is...I can't imagine having a heavies MM...

Really? Whenever I play with T7 heavies they always go 'Finally a match where I can pen something!'. Then again, I haven't gotten above T6 yet, and my only heavy is the T-150...so I wouldn't know.

XP is apparently based on damage done regardless of the tier of tank you hit.Skywalker_T-65 wrote:Technically speaking I'm not in the same weight class as a KV-5...not even the same tier really. I suspect this impression stems more from the fact that high-tier shells tend to "overkill" a low-tier tank so much that a normally 100 XP hit would only yield 75 XP because you only needed half of the shellpower to actually kill the tank (i.e. shell does 400 damage, but the tank only had 300 HP to begin with).
Also, the 3601H is definitely what I call a "Predator" tank - which means it should focus on wiping out the lesser tier tanks as it has a definite advantage over most of them.

Man I got the Su-85 after the Su-85B and now suddenly I suck
I do wonder what changing the VK to a Heavy will do other than making it cheaper to transition the crew to the Tiger. As noted it already has the HP of a heavy!
