Actually, if you want pure speed, no ship in the game (save the Manta) can beat a Pirate Valkyrie Class IV. Without upgrades it has a speed of 580 and an acceleration of 700. In addition, it has 213 tons of mass and 10 tons of cargo space (enough for the United Shipping Courier missions and the Polaris missions).

Shields and armor aren't so hot, but if you like speed ....

I'm actually talking about Hyperspace speed, but that sounds like a fast little hotrod. Unlike the Pirate Manticore, which is a cow. And nobody told me about the illegal EMP tubes on it :(

And why the hell do I need eight ion cannons? I sold off four and got a massive amount of free space back for a few FPC turrets and a pair of railguns.

Oh, where would one get a Pirate Valk IV? I'm at Harbor now and there and at Viking the Pirate Valk speed is 450...

Unfortunately, you have to capture it or use a mod  (and if you use the mod, it costs 1.5 million due to all the upgrades and firepower the thing has)

Alas, when I did the Polaris Campaign I was on the "Peace with Wraith" plot == no fun hyperspace toys.

I think I've figured that out. Don't take a Polaris ship with you into Wraith space. They don't attack, so no problem.

What does that mean, in short? I can outrun Nil'kimas Mantas and when the afterburner is on I can outrun Hellhounds and Gravmissiles.

The thing is armed with 4 Ion Cannon, 2 150mm Railguns and 2 Fusion Pulse Turrets. I'm seriously considering ripping out one or two ion cannon or the FPTs and the two railguns and replacing them with a pair of 200mm guns before I get the Unrelenting.. It's dangerous tangling with other ships with ion cannon without that long-range firepower.

Cute Trade Triangle I found:

Start at Earth and pick up Medicals.

Head to Port Kane, sell the Meds and get Equipment.

Back to Sol System, land on Europa and chuck the equipment; buy luxury goods.

Sell Luxury Goods on Earth, get Meds, head back to Kane...

Caveat: Watch out for that stupid Vell'os story arc. Get afterburners and solar panels ASAP and save your money (you'll have a nice pile of it) until you get to Aurora Space...

Don't forget to sell your ship's equipment before trading it in.

A question: Aside from bribing the planets and stations (which only seems to work once), is there any way to get back in the good graces of a local star system if you've managed to accidentally piss them off? (like, say, if you didn't know that the Aurorans think that EMP torps are illegal, and decide to get huffy at you if you try to take off of Aurora with the Unrelenting...

Well, first off I think you need to get an Exotic Outfits license (available, forged, only at Harbour as I recall, which is the pirate base) if you want to keep your EMP torps legally...and to sweet-talk systems you've pissed off, try blowing up pirates around them.

The Vell-os arc is actually leads to a pretty sweet deal once you register, as I recall. You get access to some pretty powerful ships and weapons. The Javelin is one of the best ships in the game.
Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Don't forget to sell your ship's equipment before trading it in.
I don't think that makes a difference. Selling your outfits will merely decrease the trade-in value.

BTW, here's a nifty map I've made. Unfortunately it doesn't have S7evyn since I don't have a registered game yet.

Yeah. Oh, can anyone tell me where the planet Brass is? Apparently you can terraform it into Nova or something (much like the planet UHP-0001 can be terraformed into Nirvana).

I found a map on Ambrosia's site in PDF format. I converted it to an 8-bit PNG (looks like someone only merged screenshots - MacOS X's native format is PDF - and didn't bother converting).

Map, 155K

Mine actually labels the systems. I also have an inverted map available which is easier to read.

Mine has pretty colors, too - the Nebula :D

I can even make the major systems stand out and color-code territories if I want :D

Hey does anyone know what those FUCKING HUGE dark gray and purple ships are with the horns and pulsating veins? I saw one parked at Earth (it was bigger than the planet!) and needless to say, I want one.

That fucking bastard.
I stop off on Sol, just because...and that Vell-os bastard yanks my fully-tricked-out 3+ million credit Starbridge Mod C and forces me into a goddamn Dart. Asshole didn't even give me a chance to say "Hey, let me sell this first."
I don't care if I'm a T3 psychic who can create a ship with my mind. I want my close-range death machine! I could disable a Manticore and make off with a half-million credits with my Starbridge...now I have trouble shooting down a damned Auroran Phoenix.

I'm gonna have to buy the game just so I can get a decent ship again. :P

ARG. I'm playing as the evil Federation, and I have to blow up a fricking Raven. The moment that thing sees me I get hit by that capacitor pulse laser and a nice salvo of multitorps...

Ok, the Arrow with the Summer Bloom's pretty nice, but I'm still annoyed. :P

Edit - Just registered the game. My wrath shall be known!

Edit 2 - Now I just finished the Vell-os arc...I landed on Our Spiel...drooled at the Kestrel...took off...and was -obliterated- by every game developer who flies a ship. Ow.

Okay, could someone clue me in as to what needs to be done in order to get the special Polaris gear? I've got a story arc walkthrough, and it says that I need a combat ranking of 800 in order to initiate the spin-off missions. What rank is that, exactly? I imagine I've got maybe 100 kills, but not much more than that.
