Across the board, FFXII is a vast improvement over previous games in terms of story, characters and gameplay. Most of the feelings people have toward the older games really are little more than nostalgia. I would consider FFXII superior to all previous FF titles in every area with the exception of music, and Uematsu's a genius, so those were impossible shoes to fill anyway.
I loved VI, because I enjoyed almost all the characters in some way, shape or form. And my buddy and I would play the co-op mode nonstop for hours. I'd say its my favorite.
That said, X was a ton of fun to play. Sure, the plot and VA's sucked, and the characters blew (with the exception of Auron), but being able to "tag" in and out with every character made it a lot more fast paced.

Not originally, as they were first released, I think he means. V never came out here, either, in that context.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Yes they did.Destructionator XIII wrote: II and III never came out here.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

The NENMG is a just an alternate way to play the game. You use no Espers, you use no equipment, you don't level everyone to 99. It's challenging and a ton of fun; I believe that the only thing you can't do is kill the Magi Master. But you can kill all 8 dragons, you can kill Doom Gaze, and you can definitely beat the game.General Zod wrote:Huh? There's a ton of equipment throughout 6. As for my faves, 6 and 4. With 7 coming in third. Those who say 8 is their favorite may be eaten last.

I haven't finished XII yet, I find it feels way too much like an MMO. Also, I find X's graphics better, XII looks horribly jaggy on my tv.Darth Raptor wrote:Across the board, FFXII is a vast improvement over previous games in terms of story, characters and gameplay. Ouch! I wonder what's the issue? They came out pretty nice on mine. I'd say the plotline is meh and the character choice is pretty lacking... I mean, I have all these wierd races around me, and all I get is the bunny chick and everyone else is human? So we have the scoundrel prince, the idealist youth, the childhood friend love interest and... uuuh... I don't know anyone else, but I asume we also get the 'embittered exile loner' and 'overly enthusastic highly competitive child' characters as well at some point. Possibly 'villian turned ally' and then if a secret unlockable character as 'somewhat grim speechless wierdo' somewhere.Spyder wrote:I haven't finished XII yet, I find it feels way too much like an MMO. I'd laugh my ass off if I'm right, but that's just a tiny gripe. Even if the characters are all stereotypes and oft-repeated anime memes by this point, I really did find them all rather engaging and liked them. Plus, unlike previous games, I could redo their weaponry and skills to make them do just about anything I felt would be useful. And the in-combat swaps really helped turn a tiny party into a much bigger party. X did that too, and it was cool then, but it's even better in fully useful realtime.
So while I think FF6 is the 'best' of the bunch and would be a really awesome and epic game if it recieved a faithful update to modern FFXII graphics and playstyle (possibly with 4 characters at once well!) I do think that XII really did climb out of the slump the genre had been in. Pretty fun combat, with suprisingly palatable characters.
Actually I think its possible that you CAN beat the Magi Master, since I'm almost positive that Terra naturally learns Life 3.Alferd Packer wrote:The NENMG is a just an alternate way to play the game. FFIV and FFXII. Though I haven't finished FFXII, I'm at the endgame grind, and it just loses any spark it had throughout the game when you realise just how long it's going to take to beef up to take on the superbosses. (FFX did the same thing to me, I always lost interest just before the end)
I'm interested in what they do with the DS remake of FFIV. The PSP versions of 1 & 2 don't have any new content over the GBA ones (though they're certainly very pretty), so they can stay on the shelves, but I was never happy with the GBA version of FFIV, even the European version with the most egregious bugs fixed still reeks of hackjob ported code from the WSC version.

Looks as though it's going to be done in a similar fashion to 3 from the screens. Hopefully it's released in a reasonable timeframe.Cao Cao wrote:http://kotaku.com/gaming/cecil-b--defor ... 259068.phpGeneral Zod wrote:There's going to be a DS remake for IV? Link?

Unfortunately, you can't. Life 3 is not naturally learnable, either by Celes or Terra. And since you're limited to Celes and Terra's spells in the Fanatics' Tower, you're very limited into your choices. The only way, AFAIK, to beat him, is to level Terra up to 99 and spam Ultima, and train Umaro up to level 99 and Bserk him. But again, that breaks the rule to avoid over-leveling. You can beat the game without any Espers or equipment with an average character level of 42-43, according to the guy who came up with the challenge. I wound up around level 48-50, myself.NeoGoomba wrote:Actually I think its possible that you CAN beat the Magi Master, since I'm almost positive that Terra naturally learns Life 3.
If you were allowed to use Strago's Lores, he and Gogo would be able spam forcefield to knock out all his spells, or use Reflect??? to mute him. With that, Umaro would eventually wear him down to nothing, and he'd be muted, so as not to cast Ultima. As it is, though, the only way to beat him in the NENMG is to essentially max out your levels.

Never could get into KH. Bad camera controls, main character that I loathed and Tetsuya Nomura basically wanking over his own characters (notice the absence of characters from FF9 or anything pre 7).but all in all both games are FUN
