Sony was
eyeing profitability in 2008 for the PS3. That suggests two things for me:
1. It's not profitable on hardware, just yet.
2. They're not going to make a price cut, just yet--they need to keep the price up to start making money on the thing.
The only interpretation of this that works with a price cut (assuming they're still shooting for profits in 2008) is that the PS3 is VERY profitable, already, and that they can make a price cut without comrpomising their profits. I think this is somewhat unlikely.
