Not when it's with things that don't exist like ray guns. And when it happens to people with no consequences shown. It's not like Stormy the Stormtrooper who got bashed with a rock is now in a wheelchair or something. Even Luke after getting his hand diced gets a new one and looks fine. Maybe if they gave him a hook it would matter more.

The difference lies in the presentation, mostly. The camera doesn't linger on dead bodies, the amount of blood shown is minimal, there aren't that many horribly mutated people infected by parasites, etc.

Actually, it's probably mostly with the blood. People seem to have a huge hang-up about it these days.
