I had to replace every single bulb, so yeah. Funny thing is though, I'm really surprised that it didn't smoke check my alarm clock. Go figure! Everytime the wind blew the line back and forth, it was like watching the lights brighten and dim like on Star Trek when the enterprise got shot by the bad guy of the week. Brownouts ftw!

Aw fuck. It's a few years-old surge supresser too. Well, that's one more component on my to-buy list. Thanks for the heads-up.
Just so we're absolutely clear, you're not reverring to one of these right? (You might get lucky and find a fuse in one of those....)

Right, and he might be lucky and Windows might just start to work again, which would leave him with an at least partially usable computer instead of a totally fucked one.
Or he could easily be in an even worse situation than before. This is exactly why I suggested grabbing a bootable linux distro as a diagnosis tool. On a machine that old, he should have zero driver issues. If its usable w/o any issues, then his problem is software based. (though I seriously doubt that is the case here)

I bought a new motherboard, new hard drive, and new power supply. This neccesitated a new case, because I had no idea what I was doing and had an ill-fitting case for the motherboard. I've hooked up the new motherboard with everything.
I turn the computer on, the fans switch on, two of four LEDs on the motherboard show green (two show red). The monitor reports zilch, and pressing keys on the keyboard does nothing. The CD trays do not respond. I *believe* I've hooked up everything correctly, but I had three spare cables leading from the on switch from the front.
Their properties are as follows:
1st: Unlabeled. Two rows. First row has 5 pin holes, second row has 3 pin holes, 1 solid, 1 pin hole
2nd: Labeled (vcc, usb1+, usb1-, gnd), four pin holes
3rd: Labeled (vcc, usb2+, usb2-, gnd, shield), five pin holes
Everything else is hooked up. What did I do wrong?

Check the manual that came with your motherboard, it should have an explanation as to what those LEDs are supposed to indicate.

If you had, the CD trays propably would respond and at least open and close. Re-check every cable from the power supply and make sure every part of the mobo and every other device is hooked up correctly.
Are you using IDE ports for your harddrive/cd drives, and is everything set up correctly, including master/slave behaviour?
