"Vae Victus!!"

Sarafan: "Surrender, fiend, and we will promise you an easy death."
Kain: "I could promise you the same, but it would be a lie."
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know...tomorrow."

Except he totally pronounces it incorrectly like a tool- Vae Victus means gibberish. It's Vae Victis, or Victo, or Victae, depending upon the gender and number of people- never, unfortunately, -us despite the stereotype of Latin. And it's pronounced "Why Weak Tease" if you're doin' it right, "Vay Vick Tiss" if you're a catholic priest.

So I can never enjoy that line regardless of its supposed badassery because I get the image of Kain as a dyslexic catholic priest with poor grammar.

Duke Nukem is disqaulified because 110% of his lines are lifted straight from Army of Darkness.

Even if he is awesome.

Also: Every line from Jon Irenicus. Yes, I'm a big baldur's gate fanboy, but his delivery of every single line is a work of art to my ears.

Oh, and more max payne love:
"The truth was a burning green crack through my brain. Weapon statistics hanging in the air, glimpsed out of the corner of my eye. Endless repetition of the act of shooting, time slowing down to show off my moves. The paranoid feel of someone controlling my every step. I was in a computer game. Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of. "

And some L4D: "I'm calling zombie bullshit." -Zoey

You could be right. It sounds like "This" to me he either shifts his arms or doesn't move at all. I always just assumed he was talking about his firearm. Either way, Bill's comment is what always makes me laugh.

So itt we have dramatic or interesting lines vs generic tough guy nonsense. I mean seriously, 'I am a vampire rar I like blood'? FANTASTIC LINE LOL. That people consider unit chatter 'best videogame lines' shows exactly why videogame dialog is generally such garbage.

Honestly, when it comes to video game dialogue, delivery is almost certainly most important, because the lines themselves are almost certainly bullshit. It's like how every line in Devil May Cry 4 is pretty stupid as written, but the voice actors manage to make it less offensive. Pretty much everything Nero says is faux teenage macho bullshit but is pretty well delivered.

"My name is Andrew Ryan, and I ask you a simple question: is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow? No, says the man in Washington, it belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican, it belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow, it belongs to everyone. I rejected those answers. I chose something else. I chose the impossible. I chose...Rapture!"

Really, pretty much every line Ryan has in Bioshock is gold. Sander Cohen and Frank Fontaine are right behind him, but damn is Ryan one hell of an orator.

Super Mario Brothers 3: After plowing through the 7 worlds, making your way through the final over-militarized land, and beating Bowser through the power of his sheer stupidity, you finally find the princess, and she says: "Sorry, but the princess is in another castle.... just kidding"

Why write quality when nerdlings will say 'OMG I SHOTZ MAN' is a great line? Remember the kudos Mass Effect got for writing? The game had ONE good line and I can't even remember what it IS.
