What the hell? I used the chainsaw a lot in Gears simply because it was silly and you could obliterate whole crowds of wretches without wasting any ammo. It's a short ranged game but not that short ranged.

I don't think I ever found a practical use for the chainsaw. More often than not I'd wind up getting my ass curbstomped if I tried doing anything close quarters.Ford Prefect wrote:What the hell? I guess I was just lucky, but I found using anything else on Wretches was a waste. I also killed the Sires using the chainsaw exclusively. Against anything that doesn't have a gun, it's perfectly viable.

Why even bother chainsawing wretches? I regularly just beat them to death with the Hammerburst even on hardcore.

I had the Lancer basically through the entire game. I used another weapon when I had the Longshot, but never at any other point.

It looks funny to have them run into a revving chainsaw.

In Gears 2 the chainsaw seems more resistant to being lowered by enemy fire.

Jesus, the Sires. I mean I know that area was probably supposed to be all scary and shit, but when there's two of you running around with chainsaws, the only response it can possibly provoke is joyous giggling as you race to be the one to chainsaw the latest poor sod first...Ford Prefect wrote:I also killed the Sires using the chainsaw exclusively. Apparently chainsawing is the way to go. We have been doing it wrong?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Don't forget catching a glitch and having 2 or 3 people chainsawing the same poor wretch or sire simulaneously.Vendetta wrote:

If only the campaign mode's 'river of blood' effects were in mp.

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
Seriously, it saves ammo and against no threat enemies (ie. anything that can't shoot you) it's pretty much invincible. Like Stark says, they can walk into you and die. When fighting the Sires I just had my friend spot for me. 'I've got a bogey coming in from the left flank! Alpha strike, alpha strike!' *revs chainsaw*havokeff wrote:Apparently chainsawing is the way to go. We have been doing it wrong?
Not he never actually said that exactly, but I imagined he did.
Haha, oh wow. That can happen? I'll have to test it out.Don't forget catching a glitch and having 2 or 3 people chainsawing the same poor wretch or sire simulaneously.

Watching Cole, Dom, Baird, and Marcus quadruple chainsaw someone is the height of awesome.

On the first 3 levels of Horde having the entire team running around with (pimping Gold) chainsaws revving has this happening all the time for me.Ford Prefect wrote:Haha, oh wow. That can happen? I'll have to test it out.
Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
On Gears 1 it was a glitch that let you double-penetrate with chainsaws.Stark wrote:Don't forget catching a glitch and having 2 or 3 people chainsawing the same poor wretch or sire simulaneously.Vendetta wrote:

On Gears 2 it looks very much like they designed it to happen. Especially if you spit roast them, because the two animations are designed so that the chainsaws don't cross each other.
Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
However, particularly in multi, it is still glitched, where someone can be in the middle of their chainsaw-chop animation, with blood going everywhere, chopping nothing because the poor bastard already fell down. They certainly widened the window for it to happen, because it's common as fuck in Gears2.

Being a bunch of kill stealing cuntbags when Hav/Stark/Flash/Chardz/Me etc play there is certainly many a multi-chainsawing.

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
Was playing some GoW2 last night in co-op, actually getting somewhere in the campaign. I'm really very impressed. It's like the first one but with all the dials turned up to 11, turned up further, turned up until they stop, cursed at, broken off and then chainsawed into submission.
I'm now moving onto using the sniper rifle for it's lovely headshotting abilities, long reach, convenient handles and smooth swing.I'm still meleeing the hell out of anything that comes close, but not to such a degree as shotgun whacking every last lambent wretch I see.
If only because I've not seen any yet. (Just left with the horsey I rode in on.) Tickers get the sniper whack treatment though. About the only things I dislike are those damned Maulers. Damn them and their helmet and shield-fu. Sires were fun. Co-op buddy had the chainsaw and I was pistol whipping them down. Possibly the funniest bit involving no dialogue so far. Not seen the multi-chainsawing yet, probably because my secondary tends to default to the bow when it's available. Mainly for the *schwing*, I'll be fair.

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
I had the same sense the first time I played; they really tweaked a lot of the annoying things and introduced features that should always have been there (like enemy healing and NPC healing). Melee is nowhere near the silliness it was in the first game and grabbing shields is hilarious.
Lambent wretches are gone, replaced by tickers which fill the same role but are far less irritating. Turns out Epic listens to the fans?

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
Yeah, I think that sums it up really. They apparently listened and crafted a gem of testosterone. Never before has there been so much man in one squad. Never really grabbed shields though, I like watching the shotgun and pistol executions too much.

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
I remember getting the shields on my playthrough. My friend and I went through entire sequences using that. I went through shitloads of Medusa ammo, which was kind of funny because I rarely used my sidearm at all in Gears1; there was no real incentive compared to a game like COD4 to switch when you're out of ammo, because perfect active reloads are so fast and you spend most gunfights in cover anyway.

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
The stumbling makes the revolver more useful and the MP is really just a pistol hammerburst and can kill anything in a pair of bursts. It's now practical to have two specialised weapons (like, say, sniper and bowshot, or boomer and flamer) and rely on your pistol as a 'generic' weapon. Good thing too because I dig the basic pistol.

Re: I shoot you good!(Gears of War-PC)
Yeah, I picked that up a bit too late into the game. I was playing it like I would play Gears1, so my weapons loadout was built from the assumption that the Boltok is only really useful when you have to kill Boomers and you don't have a Longshot yet. This basically gimped us for a while. That said, the perfect reload on the Medusa is awesome. It practically turns into the Cyclone from Perfect Dark.

And let's not forget the boomshields and how they make pistols unstoppable.

I am certainly the king of shield+MP when we play.
