'Consider worthy of owning'? A game that isn't providing entertainment is literally worthless. Waiting to buy it even makes it cheaper! No wonder the game industry has such huge marketing campaigns to sell their product to people who pay the premium of a new game for something they won't even use for moneys (or ever).

Oh man, EULAs! Hilarious. You in fact CAN return PC games, and I laugh loudly every time I do so.

I don't have a back log, because I finish my games when I get them. If I don't have time to play games, I don't buy them. The only game in my collection that I haven't got around to finishing is the Zelda: Phantom Hourglass because I can't find my DS charger.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

I used to do that until I realized that I'd spent nearly half a grand on games in four months. That put an end to it pretty effectively.

The ones in my backlog now are games I've had for a while and just haven't had time and/or sufficient interest to finish. Oh, and Armoured Core 4, which there's no point playing anymore because Armoured Core For Answer has all the same kit and then some new stuff. I had it pretty much beat excluding a mission with that imbecile with the triple-linked hi-lasers followed up by the White Glint, anyway.

You realize that applies to anyone owning movies or books, right? Yet I doubt you would criticise someone having a shelf full of movie dvds. As for waiting making it cheaper, waiting also makes it obvious wich games are decent, and wich games are over-hyped crap, wich is fine.
No wonder the game industry has such huge marketing campaigns to sell their product to people who pay the premium of a new game for something they won't even use for moneys (or ever).
"Use for moneys"? What are you talking about? But if you mean that campaigns to get Day One sales and the people who fall for that are retarded, I agree.
Oh man, EULAs! Hilarious. You in fact CAN return PC games, and I laugh loudly every time I do so.
Hey mister memento, remember how we've already discussed that in many places you cannot return PC games at all? It has nothing to do with the EULA, but retailers. I recently noticed that the EULA on several games states that you can't return them once installed (Hence my comment, since I found it hilarious), but retailers won't accept returns if the packaging is open. Maybe you live in a wondorous land of pixies and fairies where videogame retailers accept returns and.... Oh wait, Australia. Sorry man.

Well, for me, the games I need to finish are either ridiculously long (Disgaea, Persona 3), have been rendered unplayable by my toddler (SR2, possibly Disgaea), or have been tabled by other games I'd rather play (Persona 3 because I had to grind too much, TFU because it was an impulse buy and then I got ME and ME2).

Why do I own games that I have not played yet?

It's called Steam
When something like Mount and Blade which I will someday play drops down to 5$ I'll snatch it up even if I don't intend to play it right away. The last two games I've bought full retail(The first games in a great while) where Bioshock 2(Ugh) and Battlefield Bad Company 2 ( :D ) mostly my gaming these days consists of waiting till something drops into the 1$-26$ range on steam that I wanted to play and snatching it up.

Need to finish:
Dragon Age
Overlord: Dark Legend

Wanna buy:
DoW 2: Chaos Rising

Wow, I'm surprised it's that small. If you'd asked last year it would've been more than thrice the size. Damned college is taking its toll. :D

I guess you're in for a ride to the fuzzy-wuzzy planet of awesome then because Electronics boutique, as they still call it in Australia has a standard policy of returns 14 days after purchase if you are at all dissatisfied with the game, even after opening the product.

The same is also true for it's parent company here in the UK. If you have the receipt and a mean dislike of the game going, you can return it with no qualms and they will give you your money back, or exchange it for another. Though Game do get a little picky and try to avoid refunding the money if the game actually works.

Also, to those thinking about it, save yourself the headache and pain and avoid buying AVP until they make it not broken. As it is, the game is short, broken and seriously not worth full asking price.

Please remember I'm referring to PC games, you can return console games here too, but apparently PC games get infected with STDs the moment you open them or something, and no store will take them.

You can technically sell PC games to certain retailers (Like GAME) for their 2nd hand bin, but appart from the ridiculous price they pay for it (*if* they decide they want it), there's a push to stop dealing with PC games altogether.

Maybe you are referring to PC games, of course, in wich case, good for you.

If I meant console games, I would have said console games.

GAME do the same fourteen day return policy as EB used to do. You just need to insist harder because they don't advertise the policy like they used to.

Man, it's not about insisting, is about retailers in SPAIN not accepting game returns once the package is open. Maybe GAME has this hidden return policy I don't know about, wich is plausible considering I wouldn't ask since all the other retailers do not accept returns.

Then again, I'm not about to buy anything off GAME, they've screwed with me way too many times. There is a reason why I refer to them as incompetent fucks in casual conversation.

That's pretty much it. The Black Friday and X-mas/New Years sales last year fucking DESTROYED me. They roughly tripled the length of my backlog, simply because I went: "for five dollars, I can play this for an hour and if I don't like, who gives a shit, because that's 1/3 of the price of a cinema ticket".

Depends; if people are saying 'finish the SP of an RTS' I don't think I've ever finished any because they're all shit boring. Like Mount & Blade; you don't 'finish' it, you play it until it gets boring. You don't have to 'finish' a game to 'finish with' it. Like ando says, once you've got your money's worth it doesn't matter unless you're like Vympel and need to play every hackjob Bioware game ever. ;)

The idea of spending money on a game I won't play for ages because I already have a huge list of games I bought and never played is still stupid. Of course, not that many interesting games come out and they don't take long to 'finish'. Metro was fun but only took three afternoons in between study, so my backlog is now nothing.

That's a bit of a stretch I think; when someone says "finished" I always read it as actually completed the game. Otherwise why not just say "gave up on"? There's almost just as many games that I wound up giving up on and sold or traded in as I've completed.

But then you hit games (especially primarily multiplayer) that you can 'finish' but not actually 'finish'. I mean, is 'finshing' MW2 getting to max rank and all unlocks? I hope not. :)

Looking over Schatten's list though, it seems pretty clear to me he meant "completed", since most of those games are largely sp. :P

Probably not. MnB got boring years ago, and hacking in multiplay (ps multi + bugs and imbalance = lame) doesn't impress. I'd rather play GSB (which also can't be 'finished').
