Another good argument for learning on the old version - stability.
The new version is buggy, and I mean it; one recurring bug has rain melting dwarves. Speculation has that being biome temperature related.
As for the new features that show promise, well, a busier underground makes for a far more fun game. Now it's reasonably feasible to embark in a godforsaken wasteland; if you can find an underground cavern, you can get water and even "trees." (Along with a visit from horribly vicious randomly-generated monsters.)

Nah, ToadyOne was just fucking around with implementing and testing the [Wicked] creature tag and he forgot to take it off of the Dorves for release.Tanasinn wrote:Another good argument for learning on the old version - stability.

A busier underground? Oh crap.As for the new features that show promise, well, a busier underground makes for a far more fun game. Now it's reasonably feasible to embark in a godforsaken wasteland; if you can find an underground cavern, you can get water and even "trees." You mean I have to defend more than one point in my Fortress? The torpedo teams shall clearly be working overtime.
Did he change the Carp, though? Also, I miss the murderously rampaging elephants. I wish he'd bring those back.

Re: New Dwarf Fortress Release
No idea if he changed carp - another bug has few or no fish spawning.
Depends on the cavern. The one I found was home to a lone giant olm and nothing else. Others have opened up caverns and been paid visits by troglodytes, giant cave spiders, or the new forgotten beasts. The HFS has changed significantly, too, but I don't wanna spoil it unbidden. You mean I have to defend more than one point in my Fortress?

I hope to Armok he didn't. Dwarves getting into Mortal Kombat with the finned menaces was one of the high points.Tanasinn wrote:No idea if he changed carp - another bug has few or no fish spawning.
Maybe he should make "Giant Cave Carp" as an underground river monster if he ever does fix the fish. And "Dwarf-Eating Pachyderm" as an Elven war-beast.
Awh. I never even found the HFS previously. My computer was so slow I inevitably lost interest.Depends on the cavern. The one I found was home to a lone giant olm and nothing else. OTOH, the idea of underground batteries of the dwarven proton torpedoes firing at rampaging hordes of things best left undescribed is funny. If nothing else, it'll lead to interesting bedroom decor. TO THE CHISELS!
