I will add (or rather state, as it's probably implicit) that Vehicular Combat that it also gives the pilot proficiency with vehicle weapons (read: implicitly heavy weapons) that are operated by them -- but only pilot-operated vehicle weapons, so it's possible for someone to be a great combat pilot without being worth a damn at using grenade/missile launchers (character-scale), heavy repeating blasters and the like -- or heck, even gunnery turrets! I think that SotG had something regarding turrets, at least for gunners, besides the Expert Gunner tree/talent...

Some starship maneuvers in SotG were for gunners not flying the vessel, although pilots would also profit by them.
That's the advantage of the SWSE-system in my opinion: due to the easy multiclassing, characters can be good at several things without a lot of serious drawbacks to their main role.
