Do US remotes work with Aussie PS3s, though? Play Asia seems to imply otherwise with its "compatible with" provisos, selling two differnet versions of the same product, one for Asia, one for America ....neoolong wrote:The PS3 remote is sub 20 bucks on Amazon. It'd be pretty rude if the remote was region locked when the games aren't.

What, like when the HD transfer discs for the 360 turned out to be region locked?Stark wrote:It'd be pretty rude if the remote was region locked when the games aren't.
Re: PS3 Blu-Ray: Controller vs Remote
Everything on bloody 360 is blood region locked...

I don't know, but I'm assuming that the PS3 that Alyeska's is trying to use is a US model.Vympel wrote:Do US remotes work with Aussie PS3s, though? Games aren't but Blu-ray movies and DVD's are. Although I can't see any reason why hardware would be region locked.Stark wrote:It'd be pretty rude if the remote was region locked when the games aren't.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

A significant majority of bluray movies are released region-free.adam_grif wrote:Games aren't but Blu-ray movies and DVD's are. Although I can't see any reason why hardware would be region locked.Stark wrote:It'd be pretty rude if the remote was region locked when the games aren't.

I may be missing something here, but why would roommate take the controller, but leave the console? I see only two possibilities:
1) has another console at his destination (but not a controller? unlikely)
2) took it out of spite for you, which is a real dick move

Maybe he doesn't want people touching his shit while he's gone? I think it's most likely he has another PS3 back at home or wherever he went and wants to play some multiplayer or something with his family.

Not letting other people use your own property is a dick move?houser2112 wrote:I may be missing something here, but why would roommate take the controller, but leave the console? I see only two possibilities:

Re: PS3 Blu-Ray: Controller vs Remote
The PS3's squashy triggers will do all sorts of nonsense unless you put it down juuuust right when you're watching a movie on the thing. Annoying, but not so annoying I'd even consider a remote for it.Stark wrote:The PS3 remote is like the old PS2 one, with the small retangular buttons, right? I hated the PS2 remote.
Using analogue sticks for scrubbing seems pretty stupid though; on 360 they use triggers, which are safer once you put it down.

I would consider someone withholding use of property of a non-personal nature (like a game console) to people they live with to be a dick move, especially if the living arrangement is voluntary.General Zod wrote:Not letting other people use your own property is a dick move?houser2112 wrote:I may be missing something here, but why would roommate take the controller, but leave the console? Oh please. There's nothing non-personal about it if nobody but him is the one who paid for the console.houser2112 wrote:I would consider someone withholding use of property of a non-personal nature (like a game console) to people they live with to be a dick move, especially if the living arrangement is voluntary.General Zod wrote:Not letting other people use your own property is a dick move?houser2112 wrote:I may be missing something here, but why would roommate take the controller, but leave the console? I consider a game console to be little different than any other household appliance, and would freely share assuming I could count on it not being abused. You obviously feel differently. I would reconsider living with someone who was so protective of their non-personal possessions (a computer, on the other hand, is more personal in nature, and would not consider it odd to want to protect it so much).General Zod wrote:Oh please. Unless you're sharing the cost of the console it's ridiculous to assume any expectation of access whenever you please.houser2112 wrote:I consider a game console to be little different than any other household appliance, and would freely share assuming I could count on it not being abused. Re: PS3 Blu-Ray: Controller vs Remote
Agreed. If I have a room mate and he or she owns a washing machine (using the appliance metaphor)and she leaves and takes the washing machine hoses with him or her (for whatever reason) I'm not going to mess with the washing machine; it's not mine. same with any other appliance, I don't care if it's a toaster. what if it's broken? I don't know. so if I can't use it, it's hands-off.General Zod wrote:houser2112 wrote:Unless you're sharing the cost of the console it's ridiculous to assume any expectation of access whenever you please.
Re: PS3 Blu-Ray: Controller vs Remote
Since they clearly have no problem with him using it - so much that he's outraged he can't do so - I don't think that's relevant.
What's strange is that either by accident or design the controller is gone and that's Sonys fault.
