I'm getting this. I have to say the trailer looks pretty good. I'm hoping it will be a lot of fun and good for plenty of laughs and kick-ass action. The FPS genre could use a few laughs. The original is still a hell of a lot of fun to play.

Well looks like they kept the original cheesy elements; pig cops, strippers, Arnie style lines. So it'll be worth a rental at least.

The very first result under the youtube video gives you a link that doesn't use youtube.

A little underwhelmed, but whatev'. Graphics aren't everything.

I'm just playing Dead Space now for the first time on my PS3, and while it looks nice I've never had a game piss me off this much. Played it for about an hour and said "Nope" and went back to work. Atmosphere? Creepy? Survival Horror? Not that I see.

At least Duke is going to deliver what it offers, by all appearances. Stupid, old-school combat sequences like Serious Sam and other Blast 'Em Up shooters of the era before realism was an ideal to aspire to. And, apparently, nudity. Even if it looks ancient I hope that it's fun--even if it's stupid fun. I'm so sick of arbitrary Monster Closets that I could choke something.

It's nice to know other people feel the same way about Dead Space. Explaining how everything went to shit in the first 30 minutes=tension? Only tense due to shit aiming, really.

Anyway, duke nukem should be fun, but i won't get it anywhere near release. Also, lol lesbian schoolgirls getting vaporised? I wonder if that is a major plot point.

Good old Dead Space

Since Bullet Storm is out in February and promises to be somewhat more modern but equally silly, how is this going to impact DNF?

I don't think it'll have any impact whatsoever considering DNF has 12 years of hype.

I think it'll effect post-release sales. Not everyone was around for DN.

That's only relevant for people who are a) old and b) incredibly stupid. Bulletstorm looks like a way more interesting game.

I'm sure Bulletstorm will perform way better than Duke Nukem, which looks like a retro throwback with unusual graphics and a pretty juvenile sense of humor. But those aren't all bad things from a marketing standpoint, even if you won't be able to sell hooker nudity to children as easily as decapitations.

But I'm also of the opinion that BS and DNF are appealing to a different demographic overall, one being the 'quality game' market and the other being the more 'interesting concept and joke purchase' demographic. If DNF comes out at a full 60 dollar pricetag it will be demolished unless there's more to it than we see, since we've seen HL Mods with more gameplay than DNF has yet exhibited. But if it comes out as some kind of throwback bundle thing I can see it making some money just based on anti-hype. Anyone my age who played Duke Nukem may want it just for the laugh of finally owning it.

More money than sense.

(and ha-ha at the deadspace thread, I didn't remember reading that, and that's pretty much how I feel. I haven't even completed chapter 2 and I'm bored of arbitrary "hey look an empty room, nope now full of monsters" stuff. Where's the survival? This is just Quake Without Adequate Ammunition. I will speak heresy: Doom 3 and Quake 4 had better atmosphere than Dead Space.)

I'll probably buy a copy of the game, play the it trough, and beat down the alien pig fuckers just out of nostalgia. Fuck if it's good or not, because let's face it, how many shitty games have we all bought that sucked ass but we paid for them and played them anyway? This fucker at least has nostalgia going for it. The Duke, a big steroid infused knuckle dragging gorilla of a character. We played him when we were teens in high school (well, some of us at least. Most of you were' kiddie punk asses into barney or some shit back then), we waited and waited and waited and I'll be goddamned if I'm not going to play this game, which might just be a giant steaming pile of shit, but goddamnit it's got the duke.

Take that shit as you may, because you're an asshole if your first real FPS was Duke Nukem 3d and you don't play this fucker.

One of my most treasured memories of Duke Nukem 3d was a 9 year old causing the game to bug out and shout every obscenity in the games voice library right as my mum walked past the computer.

I honestly don't remember how I got that game, as I was the only person who used the computer for games but I do remember it as being fucking brilliant and it did wonders for my playground vocabulary at the time.

And I'll be playing this regardless of how shit it may be, mostly because I spent pretty much all of that trailer laughing.

Well it is scary in a way...scary how bad it is LOL *I'm a smarmy asshole* GUYS!!! :P

Yes I posted in this thread to tell that joke.

No but seriously, I'm just glad it's finally coming out. I do genuinely hope it's good because it has been YEARS since a good, normal FPS game without "lol realism" as a selling point was made. So I'm going to strive to buy it when it comes out, maybe Bulletstorm too.

Who knows these games may spark a revival of older style, action-based, "non-realistic" FPS games...well at least I hope so.

Either you've never heard of Borderlands or your definition of "good" is very bizarre.

I did buy Borderlands, but I found it to be somewhat lacking. Frankly it seems rather incomplete without multiplayer, which I rarely have a chance to use. That being said it's not a bad game by any stretch, it's certainly well made and I've had fun with it. But you're right, maybe I should clarify that:

"I do genuinely hope it's good because it has been YEARS since a good, normal, single-player focus FPS game without...et ceta"

Really though, Borderlands is a good game (after I accidentally lost  my old copy I actually got the Game of the Year version, so it was worth buying twice), but without multiplayer it's not as good as advertised. That's a purely subjective opinion though, and I'm sure it's not held by people who get to dive into multiplayer more regularly.

I actually prefer games that put more focus on the SP campaign. Borderlands was a nice change for me because it meant the devs actually gave the campaign a lot of meat instead of just focusing on the multi-bits and putting in the campaign as an afterthought.

Not to hijack the thread, but one thing I did have a (minor) problem with in Boderlands was that the gimick of eleventy-billion weapons was kind of bullshit.

Firstly, in the game I found there were, even on my second playthrough, really only a handful of truly useful weapons. One was this insane full-auto shotgun with like 120x12 damage and a butt-mounted knive with like x200 melee damage; nothing could really deal with that. Another was an SMG with fire ammo and some INSANE elemental damage multiplier that I literally found could kill almost a dozen men in seconds. I blew through about half the Crimson Lance army with just that. Another was a machine pistol with, again, an INSANE acid elemental multiplier thing which effectively made even the hardest of the hardass Crimson Lance soldiers irrelevent because I could unload a hundred bullets in their head, hide, and they'd die seconds later from the acid.

After I found these guns I found that even on my second playthrough, it was completely pointless to pick up anything else. And even if it wasn't most of the guns were so identical it became almost a farce. I recall distinctly having three different Atlas assault rifles in my inventory and realizing, when I was mulling over which to dispose of to pick up something else, that all three were identical with the sole exception of one having a sight and one having about a single point of longer range.

While I enjoyed the game I soon realized that most of the weapons were completely worthless and those with use were largely interchangable with one another. I mean, I guess sometimes if you simply MUST have a shotgun that shoots lightning and cannot LIVE without it, yeah you can here, but why?

I know I sound overly critical but I really did enjoy Borderlands. You can tell I'm a real fan because I hate it more!

Well they were sort of going for the fps equivalent of diablo there so the 'OVER 9000!' largely identical weapons thing was mostly a nod in that direction.

People with functioning brains figured out that it was Diablo with guns and that the high end uniques would always be the best guns about five minutes in, like in every game of it's kind.

Besides which, even within a specific weapon type there's still variation due to the way the weapons are built, so you could always find a slightly better Pestilent Defiler. (and you're less of a man if you don't have at least one, which is why Lilith always has a Hellfire).

I've never played Diablo, or even read about it really. So I have no experience with "Diablo-like" mechanics.

And the best gun I've ever seen in the game was that insane shotgun. I'd have to look up the name of it in the game but it has these two hugely overkill damage multipliers (something like 120 damage x12 and a x200 melee attack) plus it has, no shit, a scope.

I was literally sniping targets from range. With a shotgun.

Actually in retrospect this game was fucking awesome! :D
