On the 'some cities are harder to take than others' front, would it make sense to develop special AIs just for fighting on those maps? Pre-defined pathfinding, different priorities, all that jazz?

Re: Rome Total War 2 - I called it
In light of Vympel's announcement I am pre-emptively claiming that winter will have snow! Mark my words guys!
I'm surprised that no one else is as worried as I am that CA is going to pouring tons of effort into "realistic soldier faces!" as if those are things any of us really concern ourselves with when playing the game. Things like UI management and AI improvements would be better to brag about.

Best care anywhere.

I still wish for Total War game that will allow you to mix and match...
I mean, the games are very limited, you can not play not even Wellington's forces against Romans, you can't play Japanese from Shogun 2 against FotS, or Line Infantry from Empire against Napoleon one. Being able to test various forces in history against one another would be cool, even if some matches would be rather one-sided. Or maybe not, as armies geared to fight their current adversaries, and tactics and forces from, say, 300 years ago could leave them defenceless. I thought Rise of the Samurai was a good first step in this.

You can have all the factions from Shogun 2 fight each other, you just have to have the DLCs. Don't know where you got the idea you couldn't. Can't have FotS ships fight the other two, but that just makes sense with the ironclads and all.you can't play Japanese from Shogun 2 against FotS

This. putting everything I need in a place where I can find it is a priority over giving my legionaries unique nostril textures.CaptHawkeye wrote: In light of Vympel's announcement I am pre-emptively claiming that winter will have snow! Mark my words guys!

I would have liked a trailer with some gameplay footage, but I still can't wait to get my hands on this. I guess I'd better start saving up for a new PC. I fucking knew the big secret project that CA was working on would be Rome 2.

I don't even care if the UI is improved. I just want the units to move around intelligently, instead of always taking the worst conceivable path from point A to point B.Vaporous wrote:This. putting everything I need in a place where I can find it is a priority over giving my legionaries unique nostril textures.CaptHawkeye wrote: In light of Vympel's announcement I am pre-emptively claiming that winter will have snow! Re: Rome Total War 2 - I called it
How about having some AI autonomy? Where if a unit is marching and appears to be under imminent threat of attack, they can (if you aren't force moving) immediately reform to prepare for the attack rather than letting themselves get wiped out bit by bit while continuing to march?
Re: Rome Total War 2 - I called it
Well, perhaps we can link that with a units experience as well? A bunch of untrained levies are less likely to reform themselves than an elite/experienced unit like a legionary cohort.weemadando wrote:How about having some AI autonomy? Humans are such funny creatures. We are selfish about selflessness, yet we can love something so much that we can hate something.

Trust me, after hearing reams of nonsense that the next TW game would be some Stupid Obscure And/or Inappropriate Bullshit That Will Never Happen, it was very satisfyingCaptHawkeye wrote: In light of Vympel's announcement I am pre-emptively claiming that winter will have snow! Mark my words guys!

Re: Rome Total War 2 - I called it
Autonomy is something even the Combat Mission games could handle and they have even worse controls. Enemy tank has spotted my unit? Pop smoke and take cover it's not necessary to bother the player with basic self-preservation behaviors which would be covered in a unit's training.weemadando wrote:How about having some AI autonomy? Enemy unit is about to start hosing us down with musket fire? Stop running, form up and return fire.
