Are you saying anyone should care about Bungies latest rehash of the same story because they made a strategy game you liked once?

Bungie is a religious experience for many, but their actually good games are really limited to Halo and their original ideas even moreso. Myth 2 sucks so bad I have to assume brain damage in people who honestly say it is a 'good game'.

But I hear Halo invented dual wielding. :v

Isn't Myth II the game that was coded so poorly it actually fucked up your hard drive when you uninstalled it?

People actually put this up as an example of a "good" bungie game?

No, I'm asking you to explain why you feel Myth sucked when compared to its contemporaries, since you bring it up Myth 2 also. The game, not the technical issue that I'm sure you're going to point to, but the actual gameplay and story.

Yes, it was a mistake on launch that was fixed in less than a day. I'm curious how that in any way effects the actual gameplay.

Having played Myth II (and never encounter whatever problem you think you're clever for not mentioning) I'm not sure what order to list the things that suck about it. It was 'different' at the time but hardly set the world on fire, and playing it is like having teeth pulled.

Like I said, I know you have a special relationship with Bungie, but Myth is not the silver bullet defense agains Bungie's career of failure you seem to think it is. Other people taking their game concepts and using them in actual good games continues to this day - Halo4 being effortlessly better than Bungie's Halo games is the obvious example. That just reinforces that Bungie's games are not priceless cultural artifacts.

Indeed I think I'll get my buddies to play myth 2 and we'll see how long that 'classic' game lasts.

I played Myth II back in the day a little. Wasn't it one of those games that gave you limited units and then you had to keep practically all of them alive for some final showdown at the end of a mission, and you pretty much had to reload a saved game if you fucked up and lost like one or two guys?

Myth 2 was a game where you had limited units and you did have to rove around the map, cleaning up bad guys. I'm not sure if the units you lost during missions counted against you in the end - I've never heard of that.

I liked Myth 2 at the time and at least a few people I knew swore by it as being a good game. What I liked about it was that it was heavily tactical and required me to think about how I used my units instead of relying on a barracks to build more. In a way it reminded me of Ground Control but fantasy instead of space ships and machine guns with weird sounds.

And at the time I was looking for "story" in a lot of my games and it seemed to have an interesting one, but I can't remember it at all now.

If you've totally forgotten the story, it probably wasn't that interesting

From a modern perspective, Myth achieved those elements by just being really stingy and unfair. You had to be 'tactical' because there was one right way... and the interface was 90s horrid. Ground Control is probably a good comparison, because Ground Control was actually good.

It also had a story I don't even remember. :V

SO ANYWAY BACK TO DESTINY.

Pre-ordered it for $5 today, got a sweet poster. Looks interesting enough, and I'm excited to see a cross platform FPS MMO with some really interesting character customization options. I enjoyed the scope, scale, and art direction of the Halo games. Gameplay comes and goes; as long as there aren't horribly broken mechanics I suppose I'll get along as good as any. Playing a console shooter is making me realize just how bad the sticks are without aim assist though :(.
