Hehe, yeah all it needed was a little love....and a port an polish and some afterburners...phongn wrote:Holy shit, you actually used a Levithian as a warship? Daaamn. But where do you get the quad light blaster turret? I'd much rather have those than those Stormfire turrets.
It's actulaly pretty manuvaravlbe now but I added the railguns so I could keep my distance from my targets. I also still have plenty of room for a Thuderhead bay too.
It's also helps to have many layers of matrix steel and carbon fiber and to also have a missile-varient Federation Destroyer as escort.
As for the Quads...you can get them in the rimshot system.
Nice. Why, it's almost as good as mine, almost. My Pirate Manticore...

I once launched eight Vipers and three Darts against an unsuspecting pack of Bureau RAGE gunboats (along with my escort of 2x Class D Pirate Starbridges, 1 Armed Levithian, 1 NC1170 IDG Frigate and 1 Updated Engine Pegasus)

Still, even that might be slow. Which campaign did you run?Wild Karrde wrote:Hehe, yeah all it needed was a little love....and a port an polish and some afterburners...
If you can evade the Feds, you can always put in four Viper baysIt's actulaly pretty manuvaravlbe now but I added the railguns so I could keep my distance from my targets. I also still have plenty of room for a Thuderhead bay too.
Matrix steel slows you down, though, which I don't really like. Carbon fiber doesn't have that problem. It's also helps to have many layers of matrix steel and carbon fiber and to also have a missile-varient Federation Destroyer as escort.
Really? Odd, I didn't see them (Gli-tech-nia, right?)As for the Quads...you can get them in the rimshot system.

My Winter Tempest will own your puny Levithian once it's distracted by my 8 Vipers and 3 Darts

Hire some cheap Terrapins and go on the Earth (buy Medical) -> Sirius II (sell) -> Codeheaven (buy Bioweapons) -> Lesten System (sell bioweapons, buy Equipment) -> Europa (sell Equipment buy Luxury Goods) -> Earth (sell Luxary Goods repeat cycle).Faram wrote:Okay how the hell do I get a license for the fun stuff? Keep a few hundred K in reserve to pay your escorts. Either that, or try and steal a Levithian

Thanx for the tip.
Had to restart, bought a asteriod miner and blasted some stuff. Accedentely hitted a big ship and it toasted me.

Hmm that sounds like the way to go (well except the 'Accedentely hitted a big ship and it toasted me' part!). I'm wondering: How do you quickly get a bigger ship? These Mouse Boat shuttles suck!Faram wrote:Thanx for the tip.

At least get the Heavy Shuttle. Then see if you can get a jump range of seven or so and do the run I outlined earlier. Slowly start building up your cash reserves, hiring cheap Terapins as you go (and make sure you keep enough cash in reserve to pay them!).
If you get a decent ship with some firepower, you can try and capture one of the Levithians you see cruising around (as long as you have fewer than six ship escorts) - be careful, they can be well-armed. Then you can start rolling in money since they have huge cargo capacities.

Just a little sluggish from a dead stop, a large battery capacity for the afterbuners to draw from solves this quite well.phongn wrote:Still, even that might be slow. Which campaign did you run?
Right now I'm in the Federation Bureau string, which is where my Leviathan from.
I don't care for the Vipers too much, too fragile. Where on the other hand the Thuderhead can give and take a great deal more punishment. If you can evade the Feds, you can always put in four Viper bays
It helps alot though, It's also an easy problem to solve with a large battery capacity and afterburners, as I stated above.Matrix steel slows you down, though, which I don't really like. Carbon fiber doesn't have that problem.
Yes. The difference may be that I ran weapons test for them.Really? Odd, I didn't see them (Gli-tech-nia, right?)
Try hanging around the outfitters until somone working for Gli-tech-nia offers you jobs making deliveries for them.
Not only do you get to test brand new weapons not availble to others yet, you get to keep any weapons you test for them....free.
Oh please, my destroyer escort would be more then a match for your pathetic Vipers and Darts. My Winter Tempest will own your puny Levithian once it's distracted by my 8 Vipers and 3 Darts
At the very least your Pirate Carrier is toast, I chew through fully decked out Manticores and Carriers for breakfast.
GALE FORCE/BOTM member and all around forum lurker.
I ran all of the Gli-Tech-Nia tests, though, including the run from Polaris and still couldn't get the Quad Light Blaster Turret. No biggie, I just have four Stormfires as CIWS. No missile can touch me
On a different savegame, I have a pair of Armed Levithians, the 1170 IDG Frigate, a Heavy Fighter Federation Carrier and the two Class D Pirate Starbridges. I chew through enemy forces too quickly to capture, so I usually have them stand down before I go in with the Winter Tempest. I also have those three Thunderhawks in a bay in this one (switched it around)
Anyways, I'd just unload with my railguns and Winter Tempest on your Levithian while everyone else is distracting your escort and PD fire

This is my method for making money fast: buy a Terrapin (you can earn enough money via missions. The one with the tourist party is a good one), make sure you have 100k or so left. Go to Europa, but luxury goods, go to Earth sell. Repeat until you can fill your cargo and still have a bit over 100k. Hire another terrapin. Repeat ad nausea, until you're full of terrapins (shouldn't take over 5 minutes or so ) then buy a Frigate. Whenever you can spare about 150k, dismiss one of your terrapins and hire a frigate. Until you have all 6 frigates, just keep doing this... you'll get several hundred credits per trip. When you've got 3 millions or so, dismiss everyone, go to New Ireland and buy a Mod Starbridge (best ship IMO) and the vectored thrust. If you want the good stuff (that I like) sell all the weapons and jammers, then you can go to a certain pirate planet one jumps from that planet in the lower right corner of Fed space (the one with a gate) or two jumps, not sure... anyway, buy about 3 light 100mm railguns, and the pirate jammer.phongn wrote:Hire some cheap Terrapins and go on the Earth (buy Medical) -> Sirius II (sell) -> Codeheaven (buy Bioweapons) -> Lesten System (sell bioweapons, buy Equipment) -> Europa (sell Equipment buy Luxury Goods) -> Earth (sell Luxary Goods repeat cycle).Faram wrote:Okay how the hell do I get a license for the fun stuff? Keep a few hundred K in reserve to pay your escorts. Either that, or try and steal a Levithian
After that, raise your combat ability a bit (should be easy, with that ship and those weapons, to kill lots of pirates and not be hurt even a bit - blast most of them except the ones that look like giant turnips, they usually have nearly 1M credits in loot) until you're called for a certain cargo mission in Earth's shipyard. That should unlock the bigger freighters - if you have at least one million or so, hire one of those saucers (the cheap used one) and begin making money again via Europa and Earth... when you're full of saucers, and have about 5 millions surplus, dismiss one saucer and hire a big ship that looks like lots of saucers glued together. Repeat and repeat... I made about 50 millions in less than 15 min, at about 5 million per trip. Use CAPS LOCK a lot
I'll post my ship description when I get back home
BTW, if you want a sensor boost, buy the rebel one (it's the second best after Polaris, I think). And if you have lots and lots of money, buy all the sigma upgrades that don't cost mass or space (there's one that gives you extra 5 tons of mass, you can buy a couple of those).
Anyway this method is cheap because you don't have to pay your hirelings too much... they cost about 10% of their initial hiring price per day, and most ships take at least 2 days between jumps, +1 day for launching from a planet. The Frigate takes 3 days that's expensive. This way you only have to pay for 2 days total per trip.

What's the name of that planet or at least the system?Slartibartfast wrote:If you want the good stuff (that I like) sell all the weapons and jammers, then you can go to a certain pirate planet one jumps from that planet in the lower right corner of Fed space (the one with a gate) or two jumps, not sure... anyway, buy about 3 light 100mm railguns, and the pirate jammer.
The Pegasus is rather slow (the 'saucer' freighter) and I prefer the Bioweapon run. It's not that much more work and nets much more cash. I seem to be radiating a 'PLEASE KICK MY ASS' field whenever I leave the first system.

I keep my Mod Starbridge. I only hire the others, and since we never leave the system speed is not an issue. Only you need to be next to the planet to land.

Really? I thought only the best boost mattered... same with jammers, tho I'm starting to think the Pirate Jammer blows. If you can get the legal military jammers I think they're much better.
Anyway the Rebel base is a good place to get the horizontal booster (lets you jump much closer to the center).
By the way: Archenar seems to be a special system, because the outfitter there sells nothing, but buys anything you have that is sellable.

Okay...can someone with more intelligence than I seem to be able to muster give me some clue as to how to put plug-ins and patches to this behemoth of a game on my dopey Windows machine (mainly for bug-fixing and play balance thingies)? I know I have to convert something, but what? And where?
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
Plugins do not function if you have not registered EVN. There is a document in the EV Nova\Documentation directory that will instruct you on how to convert them over from Mac to PC.Lagmonster wrote:Okay...can someone with more intelligence than I seem to be able to muster give me some clue as to how to put plug-ins and patches to this behemoth of a game on my dopey Windows machine (mainly for bug-fixing and play balance thingies)? It's looking like I won't register. It's not that it isn't fun... It is... It's just that I can't seem to reach a point where registration would help me any.
