I loved FFVIII's intro. That song r0x.

Then Crono Cross or whatever, which I never finished, but the intro was cool (mainly because of it's awesome music)

Whatever, every Sqaure intro that I've seen is sweet. :D

red alert 1 did have a cool intro...
diablo 2 i liked as well,
and for some reason i really really liked the intro (as well as the entire game and story) of Ocarina of Time - that one has my pick for best ever storyline.

Most of the Final Fantasy series. Face it, Squaresoft knows how to lead you into a game.
Baldor's Gate series.
Diablo 2
MonsterRancher

But my personal favorite is FFX's opening scenes in Zanarkand ... especially the hard-rocking music as the BlitzBall game starts. :luv:

Oh! Jedi Power Battles has the coolest opener for one reason:

Stoned Qui-Gon.

I'm not even kidding. All these droids appear and shit, and there's Obi-Wan, Mace, Plo Koon and Adi Galia looking all bad ass and pissed, then you look towards the back, and there's Qui-Gon looking in the other direction with a euphoric, yet bewildered, look on his face. He's stoned like you wouldn't believe.

Then everyone starts kicking some serious ass--cutting droids to pieces and flinging lightsabers around--cut back to Qui-Gon, he's just like "Fuck it" and Force-pushes two battle droids while everyone else is jumping around like spider monkey-contortionists. Jinn does nothing for the rest of the scene.

It's great. That's why I love Qui-Gon. :D

Time's Scar. It had a sound that I can't describe, but just fit so well with the subject matter.

Too bad the game couldn't live up to the kickassedness of the music :|

I have to agree here, but especially on six. It's pretty cool, since you don't really know the degree of the task ahead of you until later on. Special mention to Chrono Trigger; the opening montage with the music...oh man, makes me want to get up and beat the shit out of something.

Chrono Cross' music was unbelievable. I just wish I had good MP3's of it; the ones I have now are shitty sounding.

PM SirNitram. We've got a great-sounding Time's Scar. It's one of the songs I Dance to. (See the thread about the bellydance outfit)

Quoted for truth. Seriously, if the people who put that together really put their mind to it, they could probably produce a quality sci-fi movie that I'd gladly fork over a few bucks to watch. Hell, it could even be the same animation quality as I-War was.

The train ride from Half-Life is still the best.

EDIT: Second place is TIE Fighter. I can still hear it in my head: "The Empire is on the verge of success. Even now, our capable forces, lead by Darth Vader, are striking back at the rebel insurgents."
One time in high school I made a friend in French class with this guy who had nothing in common with me other than the fact that he too could quote the entire opening cutscene. Now, that's the only line I remember.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Homeworld's opening is evocative as hell. Especially if we can extend 'opening' to include tutorial-style missions, because then you get the Burning.

Definitely legacy of kain soul reaver 1, where he gets his wings broken, taken to a huge whirlpool called the abyss where he is thrown in, burns in agony and is resurrected (or just recovers) by the elder god in the spectral underworld, I have this both as a video file and as audio back when I was on Napster.
