4 Malaysian Condor APCs were hit by RPG fire, and one driver was killed, and some of the gunners were wounded.
IIRC the roadblock was not crashed through by the APCs becasue of the risk of it being mined, at least according to the source i read. my memory is hazy on that detail at least.
the UN troops were not at all briefed on this indepoendant US operation AND that the US commander insisted that the malaysian infantry and drivers be dismounted and replaced entirely by american infantry.
say what you will, but i can appreicate why the Malaysian commander would not be happy about just giving them thier APCs. and assembling a 28 APC force for a ad hoc mission they were not at all expected to do is quite something.

from http://www.ranger.org/somaliaHistoryUSARA.htmlTF David sustained 3 KIA and 29 WIA, including the Malaysian casualties (1 KIA and 7 WIA)
now i know this is like my what, 7th post here trying to get someone to listen to me on this, but the Malaysian Army is my country's one and i would appreciate some credit for at least participating in the rescue of TF Ranger, and not being maligned at every opportunity.
they went in there despite being outside thier usual chain of command, after hasty preperation and asked for nothing else in return.
i won't deny the us soldiers had to be exposed to fire, or that there weren't quite enough room to hold all the wounded, but what more could you expect? and don't forget that it was at the request of the american commander that malaysian infantry would not be in those apcs to take fire as they dismounted to get TF ranger out. (IIRC. this is speculation, but i know that the 10th mountain requested that they we carreied in the apc'S inplace of the malaysian infantry)

That was incredibly stupid, nor can I understand why the commander was coming up in a cloud of smokeVympel wrote:
The Tigers sent into a city, unsupported by infantry, with not an MG42 LMG or 81mm in sight, with a ridiculous gap in the driver's vision block allowing some idiot to stick a Thompson in and shoot? Come on.
How many thousands of rounds did it take them to notice there was a fucking machine gun an a universally extremely fucking obvious firing position of the church tower? No decent commander would ever use such a site for more then a long range sniper, specifically because it is blindly obvious to both sides.
The last combat segment was atrocious. It was total bullshit- can anyone explain why the Wehrmacht would send that bunch of totally ill-equipped (and lacking the mainstays that every German force had) forces like that into an urban enivorment? Ugh. UGH!!!!

AND STILL NO ONE CARES TO AT LEAST ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE TOOK 1 KIA AND 7 WIA IN THAT ACTION AND DID NOT DELIBERATELY SCREW UP THE RESCUE MISSION.
there was miscommunication and confusion, yes, but the actions of the Malaysian Army in the incident should not be trivialised and looked opon as condescendingly as sea skimmer seems to be doing.
there may not have been as many causalties as taken by the americans, but there were considirably less soldiers involved because the infantry was dismounted for the 10th Mountain to get in the APCs and they were only engaged for the final rescue convoy.
so don't fucking try to pretend NOT ONE Malaysian died for the rangers.

if that is what it takes to draw attention to it, so be it being ignored on a point you care about is a irritating thingWHOA WTF? Calm down, no one's even responded to you until now..
but yes, BF:Vietnam sounds really cool. i hope they work on the lag though. WHen i last played BF1942 the game began to lag horrifically on a 100 Mbps LAN with 8 humans and 56 bots
i mean, no fun playing a huge map with only 8 humans...

I am sorry we have offened you. I am aware that the Malaysians took casualities in the rescue and I am sorry that they did. I am thankful that the Malaysians helped and contributed to the rescue of TFR.AniThyng wrote:AND STILL NO ONE CARES TO AT LEAST ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE TOOK 1 KIA AND 7 WIA IN THAT ACTION AND DID NOT DELIBERATELY SCREW UP THE RESCUE MISSION.
